Actually if you're in the molten front, NPCScan will go off to pets anywhere there.Fafnir wrote:I'm not sure what the big deal is about tiptoeing around people and keeping a different pet per zone.
Most of these rarespawns are in a remote enough location that will not trigger a cache assuming everyone else is in the zone of general traffic. Even Deth'tilac, which is fairly close to the entrance of the Front, is far enough away not to trigger until you go up the ramp. Maybe not Solix and Ban'thalos, though I really don't see anyone running around with either of those.
If you are just standing at the entrance and eagle-eyeing the spawn points and someone pops out of the portal with a Molten Front pet, then you are not camping and have no real right to feel irritated. On the other hand, if you are camping in front of a Skarr/Karkin spawnpoint and someone runs by with a Skarr pet named Skarr giving you an NPCscan heartattack, then sure you might feel irritated. For the most part, people who have Skarr don't really want to camp it again, so while griefers will grief, in the 8 hours or so I was camping him I didn't see a single Skarr trip my scanner. When I did tame him ofc all the pet Skarrs popped out of the hunters lying in wait![]()
Being a pvp zone on a pvp server though, I haven't relied on NPCscan to alert me to a spawn since 4.2 except for Ban'thalos (because it was going on 7am with 2 hours of sleep and I was starting to feel my brain melting).

Re: Etiquette Question: Freshly-Tamed Rare
As someone who doesn't tame a lot of rares, I'm fairly neutral to the etiquette of such tames. If you got it, great! If you didn't, I feel your pain and let you vent and complain and cry on my shoulder. I'm happy with Misery and Company, they're all I really need on Arit. Skarr would be nice, but I've got more than enough cats in Arit's stables that I've got choices. I'll catch him when I catch him, but I've got more than enough pets to rotate out and into my active slots.
E: Sorry, one missed thing. If you are one of those Hunters that pull out rares just to mess with NPCScan or SilverDragon, I highly dislike that behaviour. To be a Hunter is to relish in your tame and help others out, not to f**k up others' scanners while laughing manically in the background. Now you're just being stupid, and the community talks, and we will find you, and hunt you down, and slap some sense into you. Just sayin'.

Re: Etiquette Question: Freshly-Tamed Rare
Or really, really gosh darn close. I'm currently getting a giggle out of someone who used Deth, Skarr and many of the spiders in Molten Front and often running up at other hunters to set off their scan going froot loops over people using Banny and the cats outside Molten Front. >_> They even ignored other hunters begging them to stop running their pets to the spawn points.Jessibelle wrote: Actually if you're in the molten front, NPCScan will go off to pets anywhere there.
I really don't get the 'it's ok if *I* do it but OMG IT IS ON if you do!' mentality. If you want to run around with your pets, that's all well and good - try not to park on the spawn points. I usually use my spiders for the outside dailies and use my new kitties inside - or use some of my other pets! I rotate the ole roster pretty often.

this is pretty much my view on it. I've had too many false positives from others to want to put people through it.Lotusii wrote:I immediately mount up and leave if I'm not questing/leveling in that immediate area. If I am in fact questing or leveling there I switch to another pet as soon as I can. I've had times when someone's pet set off my NPCscan so I know it's a terrible disappointment. I use the new pet as soon as I am out of it's spawning area though.
