Re: FLUFFY TIGER
*Sighs* I don't see why so many people hate the old models.. They have charm, damn it.
And.. The reason I'd rather have my old blocky yellow spotted cat is.. I'm afraid he won't be the same if he looked any different. I've already gone through releasing him and having trouble finding.. him again. I've tamed countless cheetahs and named them Duma only to feel like it's not exactly him, that it's just a cheetah with Duma's name tacked onto it. I don't want an updated model for him because I worry he won't feel the same anymore, that it won't be him.. I don't care if he has a sorely outdated model.. Duma is Duma, a blocky yellow spotted cat. Not a high res new model. He is what he is right now, and no pretty model will EVER change that. If the old pets were updated.. I'm afraid I'd lose the attachment to him, and other pets like this. I've already gone through that with this pet, and I'd much rather quit playing my Hunter altogether than go through something like that again.

i agree, i want the colors of the old one on the new one, and i agree, to a point with you senna, ive always admired the old-world cats from afar but as much as i love cats i cannot stand to have one by my side due to their appearance, ive longed to have Lune by my side but without a saber version i always abandon her within minutes of taming, the old world models, like the crocolisks for me, have personality, character, theres only one of that 'one' you tame and fall in love with but for me, i cant ever click with nearly all the old world models due to their very much noticeable problems

Re: FLUFFY TIGER
The obvious compromise is to upgrade models that aren't name or generic, essentially. I.E. some stalker in the Badlands as opposed to Dishu, or some STV tiger as opposed to Sin'Dall. While yes, some people who have generic cat could be upset, it is a better solution than upgrading special named cats.

Re: FLUFFY TIGER
The best option would be to upgrade all models, and then allow players to choose new models or old models. I can't imagine it would be TOO impossible to implement.. Have one folder for new stuff, one for old stuff... Let people choose in options which is used. Maybe this is harder than it seems, but I can't imagine it would be overly impossible.
Re: FLUFFY TIGER
I'd -love- for more pets to get updated models...the reason a lot of my BC/vanilla pets have been abandoned is because of how..glitchy they are. I mean, old tiger skins? Have you seen their disgusting whiskers/manes? It's just too much for me to get past >.< But this model and the cranes look absolutely gorgeous. Though I dislike how half of our models are either 7 years old or 1 year old such as cata models. I don't expect everything to be updated constantly, but that's a huge graphical difference.

Re: FLUFFY TIGER
I'm slightly torn on the issue myself, or rather I was.
On the one hand, I completely empathize with loving the original pet models, no matter how blocky and outdated they are. There is a personality and mood to them that is often lost on the newer revamped models. Not necessarily negatively, just different. In that way I am all for keeping options available. Bring in the newer models, but keep the old ones available so that people have choices.
However, in light of all the brand new artwork and style appearing for this new expansion, it's really becoming clear how much the original models are showing their age - so much so, that comparing them side by side is almost laughable. They hardly look to be from the same game, and I really don't think (if Blizzard were to go and revamp old models), that they'd want that disparity there because it just looks bizarre having an old model that's so out of place surrounded by beautiful, smooth, updated graphics.
If some day they do go and bit-by-bit update Azeroth and all the models, what reason would they have to keep the original blocky models? I know they'd probably want the whole game to have a unified, updated appearance.
Also, I've seen a few creature models that receive updated models that very much keep the original look while only having an updated texture. I'm not talking Lion = Sambas. Sambas is certainly a departure in look and style from the Vanilla lions. I'm talking about if they very specifically kept the exact look of the originals and only gave them a nice, smooth texture update it would be wonderful.
So, nostalgia aside, I really think I could get over model revamps because in the end, as long as they stayed true to the originals, we would be better off with a nicer looking game as a whole and models that matched their environments and reached the standards that the game has today.

This is exactly what I want. The new models made smoother. Not Sambas, Not the new Crocolisks, no changes like those, but a nice simple 'clean-up' would definitely not be like replacing all the current lions with sambas.Vephriel wrote:I'm slightly torn on the issue myself, or rather I was.

Re: FLUFFY TIGER
I'm okay with the current models, until I look at their face. Unfortunately, I pan my camera around a lot to look at my pets, so as I'm sure you can imagine, I tend to not like the current models.
That being said, I do think that the models in this game, player and mob, could use some polishing. I'd rather see all the models get updated, but I can certainly understand why many people wouldn't. It's the graphics they've known and loved for years. Still, the difference between the two is just.....painful to look at (for me, anyway).
Most of all, I just want our player models to get shinied up. The new night elf female hairstyles are atrocious to me, in large part due to how horribly pixellated and bleh they look. If they were smoother like the goblin hairstyles or something, then okay.
Edit: I also like Veph's idea. They don't need completely new models, necessarily, just clean the existing ones up a bit. Give them more polygons. Something, anything. (I will say, however, that I love the Cata crocolisks and wouldn't complain if they continue to add new models like that, just don't go and replace the other ones already there.)

Re: FLUFFY TIGER
I read what you wrote Veph and i think of lynxes, they are a neater more updated skin then the vanilla models, taking after the night elf druids cat form which i think was amazing and very well done, but they are still old enough to remind you of the vanilla models. Not all cats have that elongated face of theirs so maybe some tweaking of the face for each species for some unique characteristics (adds to personality as well i think), a change in the fur texture (especially their mane, that does need some reworking) but its a great representation of old and outdated and new and updated imo

Re: FLUFFY TIGER
Well, teeeeechnically, the lynxes are still Vanilla models, just a different style. That night elf kitty model has been around since the beginning.
Or, at least, since I started playing the game, which was about, eh.....seven months after release.
Edit: I'm not saying it's not an attractive model. I agree that it's definitely better, in my opinion, than the tiger model we have now. It's just that it, too, shows some aging, especially in the facial flappy fur things.

I wants fluffeh kitteh
I actually wouldnt mind them fixing them up really.. its interesting and odd putting say sambas and the rake side by side. I mean yes the mane it is too much but if you look at the physique its just no comparison.. the club foot, hairy thick whiskers, pixel mane, square body.. it does need to be updated to match the new graphics. Dont lose the intregrity of the animal but make it look like less of a box.
Updating the wolves would be great! I like the coyote for the animations but its still pretty pixelated, the worg has the weird run ever and the starved northrend.. updating the old worlds models would be awesome!

Re: FLUFFY TIGER
i know but out of all the models i think it was one of the best designed (though the dark blue prolly hid the flaws, but lynxes in-game currently dont look much like the normal cats to me, they seem a little more refined, but not quite there yetRhyela wrote:Well, teeeeechnically, the lynxes are still Vanilla models, just a different style. Holy ****. I nearly screeched when I saw that.
Blizz better not make this a rare, or I'ma cry. Not Sambas all over again...

I.. I don't know. Something about the face from the front view just looks.. goofy.
It's Sambas model without the mane and recolored, which I do absolutely love the detail. It is a very beautiful tiger and I would love to see a white one or even the aqua updated like that. I'd love to see all of the kitties updated with this new skeleton to be honest. If they just.. fix the face. I love my Sambas, but he has a similar goofyness to his face. It's just not noticed as much I guess because of his big pooftastic mane.

I sorta like the goofy face. Reminds me of my RL kitties, as they are total goofballs.
