Re: Getting a bad feeling about Pandaclysm pets....
Let's see - On the topic of Weapons being Removed vs New Pet Families
Hours upon hours of effort spent farming weapons is nothing but not getting something shiny and new is? I'd consider hunters losing their weapons to be a great blow considering you guys can and do farm some of the rarest weapons in the game for RP/Show.
I wouldn't mind new hunter pets. I just rolled my first hunter the other day and I've decided I'm taming birds. Birds birds birds. They WILL be adding new skins for quite a few families however do we really need more families? I'd be content with some new bird skins.
You don't lose months of time from not having something added. You lose months of time from having something removed. That is why it's such a huge deal compared to this.
y u so go back and forth thread. Or maybe I'm just too tired to be posting.

Fair enough, as long as you're not lumping me in with that group.Slickrock wrote:There, that suit your tastes?.. There are more in that thread along those lines.Dialga wrote:I'm angry, I'm freaking FURIOUS.
My hunter has Thunderfury, Treant's Bane, Runeblade of Rivendare, Ashkandi (both), and a LOT of purple drops from old school farming. I made it my mission to grab them all. And they're just piles of gold waiting to be sold? I won't even be able to equip them anymore?
No. No. The last straw. I didn't put this much effort into my main for this to happen. If MoP hits live and I can't equip any of my melee weapons, even just for show, I'm done. I'm gone.

What did we know of when Cataclysm was announced? I think mastiffs, foxes, and monkeys were seen in the earliest previews. So far in Pandaria, we've seen jade tigers, fluffy tigers, and potentially cranes and oxes.

Yes. We also have talk of an overhaul to the pet mechanics, which is something else they've been doing since 3.0 - in this case allowing pet respecs, and new pet buffs. Whether we get as much love as we did in 4.0 we clearly are on the devs' radar for 5.0.

Oh definitely. I think this is going to be the biggest pet mechanics change since 3.0. The other possible change could be the revamping of pet talent trees to work more like our new talent trees will work (pick a spec, then pick your talents of choice from X number of tiers).Worba wrote:Yes. Regardless of how much of this actually happens, we'll definitely be in for some changes.

Re: Getting a bad feeling about Pandaclysm pets....
You know, something I don't think I've seen mentioned while skimming through this thread...
I know you guys have mentioned the fluffy tigers... but I think that in itself might be a huge sample of something yet unseen.
I don't expect new families to be added this time around, at least not anything that we don't have already in game (IE: Hyrdas). Surely you all have heard the rumor that the original player models (orcs, trolls, tauren, forsaken, humans, dwarves, night elves, and gnomes) are all getting a face lift. I don't see why we shouldn't suspect that this might be happening to several other models in the game too.
Expecting new things? No. Expecting updates? Possibly.
I would not be too surprised if they wound up re-skinning the base models of a lot of the older models like our coyotes, bears, generation one cat models, lynxes, hyenas and more. And I mean really, when you look at bears and older wolf models it is evident that they have been in need of a face lift for some time. I cannot count the number of people I have seen in the past on petopia's forums talking about how they hate seeing the cats with the over sized fangs (excluding sabers of course), and the bears with their WOAHMYGOD snarling muzzles and a lot of these models don't even feel like they fit in the game any more with some of the more beautiful graphic updates.
For cats, look at Sambas and the new fuzzy tiger. HQ models of cats that... feel like a tease. Maybe because they are. I admit it would be nice to see a lot of the pet models updated, but I'm not going to hold my breath. Now given, it would take a LOT of work, but if they're doing the player base, I wouldn't be surprised if *some* (<- Key word) of the wildlife around Azeroth didn't receive a face lift too.
Not gonna hold my breath for it, and God knows they would be spoiling the hell out of us if they did it...
But a hunter can have sweet dreams when she sleeps, right?
At any rate that's my two cents.
Take it for what its worth.
Side note:
As this is all just speculation I realized after re-reading through this that I left something out. I don't expect -any- of this to be ready for the first MoP patch. To expect character models and reskins right when it releases is a bit foolish to me... but maybe in a patch or two it could be a relevant thing.

No no, leave my coyotes alone
Smooth out the croppy pixels, ok, but don't give them new models. xD

Re: Getting a bad feeling about Pandaclysm pets....
Eventually, probably not for a couple of years yet, but eventually no matter how much people love their blocky spiders and choppy maned wolves, all the models are gonna get a serious update ala fluffy tiger style and nothing anyway says about against it will stop it. It will happen, period.
To be completely honest, while they can and obviously have done a little bit of it now, I don't think anyone will see a full across the board upgrade until they decide to move into a new game engine. The current on is ancient by today's standards and won't last forever. I think at best we'll get a couple of updates on various models here and there but the big overhaul is still a long, long, loooooong way off.

Assuming they can survive till the long, long, loooooong way off. :\ But that's a different argument.
I've always stood by the "Change is bad, so why force it?" arguement. Alter it for those who want it, leave some for those who don't. Same here. Change generic mob A, leave Named Special Mob A alone.

If they do update the models I'm fairly certain they'd leave already tamed creatures alone.

Re: Getting a bad feeling about Pandaclysm pets....
Certain mobs got a "special" makeover in Cataclysm - not only were their models changed, but in some cases, their family as well. For example, the hounds from Scarlet Monastery - they used to use hyena models and be classified as hyenas. In Cataclysm, while keeping the same NPC id (meaning the tamed ones were changed too) they got mastiff models and were migrated to dog family.Kraai wrote:If they do update the models I'm fairly certain they'd leave already tamed creatures alone.

Yes - fluffy tigers aren't an across the board replacement for existing tiger models, but rather just an "oriental" version.
I'm still hoping that someday they will add a new bear model, with more detail but most importantly that has a normal non-combat stance (e.g. front end isn't crouching down). That would make me very happy...

Re: Getting a bad feeling about Pandaclysm pets....
I don't really care for any new families per se.. I mean, hydras, stags, basilisks, everything would be awesome, but I really don't expect that, or need it, I have dozens and dozens of things to choose from as it is.
What I would appreciate -so- much from blizzard though is just a graphic update for some of the older hunter pets. Lynxes, old cats/lions, stuff like that. They don't need new models or anything like that, simply just the same skin but smoothed out.

I think this is what I would rather see too. The Models are all right for now.. but... I really want to see some texture/skinning help. (Especially on the Lynxes.)
I'll say however, that druid catform bobcat model that was floating around with cata for the Trolls... God... I have been dreaming of a little tuskless bobtail like that for a companion on WoW. I really wish the Lynxes in WoW were a tad bit more traditional... Those long tails will forever bother me. >.<
/pickiness.
I also want this... I feel the bears in game need a lot of help. ; ; I love bears and have always wanted to tame one but due to their :OOOOO snarling muzzles and their hunched stance I can never bring myself to keep one. <.>Worba wrote:Yes - fluffy tigers aren't an across the board replacement for existing tiger models, but rather just an "oriental" version.

It won't work that way so don't hold your breath. Any mobs that got changed, their tamed counterparts changed with them.Kraai wrote:If they do update the models I'm fairly certain they'd leave already tamed creatures alone.

Re: Getting a bad feeling about Pandaclysm pets....
Until it gets closer to beta release the only thing we can do is speculate, 4.3 isnt even out folks! We were lavished in cata with new pets, spolied beyond belief in 4.2, 4.3 will be the "Noah needs a break, so just enjoy what you get!" and then itll be a whole new butt load of interesting things coming out. 4.3 coincided to close to the next expansion so thats probably why Noah and the other devs had less time to work on things for 4.3 but that just leaves a TON of surprises for the new expansion.
And uh.. guys why are you bringing in an arguement about melee weapons
I actually wouldnt mind a revamp of pet models, even if it just fluffying out the large extended pixels.

We will get to equip it and see it so please stop fighting about something thats already done and over with and that we will get...Awesome question of "Will hunters be able to equip melee weapons instead of a ranged weapon in MoP, even if just for show ? " during the Q&A and it was answered with a Yes! HUZAAH!!

Ok, this quote came from another thread right... and you're including your own interpretations on it here... and yet you're also criticizing others for talking about melee weapons in this thread?Sasrei wrote:And uh.. guys why are you bringing in an arguement about melee weapons

Umm it says right there
"Will hunters be able to EQUIP melee weapons .... ... . even if its just for SHOW"
"YES"
Theres no interpretation needed.. Yes means Yes, how they wanna do it is up to them but we will still get to equip it, isnt that the only thing that matters?

Far from it. Did you read the other thread on melee weapons?
Also you missed the point - if you don't want people to discuss it here, why are you doing it?
