Re: How I feel about MoP tameable "rares"
I don't want to wait until 5.1 for my spirit beast fix. I'm not too amore with the new selections (not so much the skins, but the pet families), but I certainly like the idea behind the them. I get that Blizzard wants to include the 6 new families, but some of the older families need some fresh blood. And I'm not even going to start talking about Hydras. What a tease!
I suppose once I see each one up close in personal, I'll warm up to them. Savage, Portent, and Rockhide are is definitely going to find a home with one of my hunters. I definitely don't like the idea of 2 water striders, though.

True, you could say that of Krush, but not Loq (or up until now Skoll). Veph's fav would have made the better rare elite..Yoruko wrote:Hmm. I'm pretty sure King Krush would be "just a green devilsaur" if his skin was used on a common mob.PorrasouxRex wrote:And think of this for a moment: Green Devilsaur, a Dinosaur not usually found in Sholazar, has a look of a sort of "Jurassic, jungle" feel to it. It isn't just a "green" devilsaur, it's a devilsaur with a coloration that, while different, we can see the colorations are very unique looking. We're just accustomed to thinking of his looks as "rare" right now. The patterns are the same as on all devilsaurs, just different colour.
Personally I feel spirit beasts to be an exception rather than a rule. They all have unique effects to them that are rarely if never found in other families, but are rather consistent inside their own. (Olm not withstanding. As well as maybe the runed demon dogs.) So I'm not so sure how applicable the family is to the, hm, debate.
All in all, what they're doing in MoP looks similar to what they've always done. In my eyes anyway. Maybe they will add some more "shiny" skins or models later on, maybe they won't. *shrug* (You could also argue that the white tiger has unique looks in similar fashion to the way King Krush has. If not more so. It's eyes glow in a way that the other tigers don't and the colour of the skin is more vibrant. It pretty much looks to me like they made it while having some use in mind for it. Such as a challenge tame. Possibly.)

I think the test will be what will be new Spirit Beasts be? If the trend continues with them, then, well....

I know how you feel, but, we'll have a lot to do in the first 2-3 months while we what for 5.1.WildcatTM wrote:I don't want to wait until 5.1 for my spirit beast fix. And yes, some old families do need some love.. rhinos.. boars...

Right AT launch, with no beta warning? That would be evil. It would also be right up the alley of Blizzard's sense of humor, I think.

Eh, at least we'd get the model...but then there'd be a screaming army of Marksman and Survival hunters.

Re: How I feel about MoP tameable "rares"
It is just very simple if you like the new rares then you will go out and hunt them down to tame them, but if you not a fan of them there are so many new models to choose from there will be one you like. In my opinion I like the mechanics behind the taming and will track many of them down for the fun, but after tracking them I will not tame more than two. I just do not think much effort was taken into the models. Many of the old rares are just reskins but they still were unique in color.
Savage and Stompy are just brighter versions of the Kafa-Crazed Mountain Goat and Summit Prowler, and if one walked by me I would have to take a second look to know it was Stompy. Then there is the green quilen, which I had tamed because of the color, the pink crane and white water strider, which were already existing skins but later removed most likely for this reason. I just feel like Blizzard instead of creating a whole new skin removed them to reuse them on these rares/ elites to save time. And again no hydras, just wanted to add that.
When I saw the blue zombie skin was going to be used in the Jade Forrest I was very excited, but then I went to hunt them down was not able to find any. Then this rare talk came up and I was certain that Blizzard had decided to use the skin to make a unique bear, which I have not seen in any patch so far. But now that all the rares have seem to be found and the zombie bear is not one of them I was very disappointed that Blizzard had given me such hope then crushed it.
This just my opinion and not saying I hate them just not interested in taming most of them. It will be fun to track them down but that’s about all I am look forward to with these new rares. I just hope to see the zombie bear back as a rare.

for me as long as it isn't some transparent recolored model of an existing skin ill be happy.Slickrock wrote: True, you could say that of Krush, but not Loq (or up until now Skoll). Veph's fav would have made the better rare elite..

for now i thing we have enough of those types of SB's i am hoping for something in the line of skoll or Loque
maybe the tiger god model but with flaming skin/ ore icy skin or perhaps even a windy theme would be nice
or a crane with a leavy/jungle like appearance.
and god I would kill for an updated leopard like skin

edit: some hydra like spirit beast sounds awesome too

Re: How I feel about MoP tameable "rares"
To be absolutely honest, the only one of these new "uniques" that I feel is a bit of a cheat is the white marsh walker. They changed pre-existing content just so they could use one of the skins on a new tameable and call it unique colour. ;P I guess I could've swallowed Boglash being changed, thus making Marticar a "rare unique" beast, but the choice they went with (for now) feels slightly off to me. Personally I'd love to go back to hang around in Zangarmarsh and wait for Marticar to appear.

That's why I'm confused why there are two water striders involved in this experience.Yoruko wrote:To be absolutely honest, the only one of these new "uniques" that I feel is a bit of a cheat is the white marsh walker. Re: How I feel about MoP tameable "rares"
I'm still really confused as to why people think these recolors are different from other recolors.
I'd understand if they were being compared to Loque, but it's really baffling to compare them to, say, Ashtail.

Re: How I feel about MoP tameable "rares"
Not to derail this too much, but even I think it may just be too late for hydras this go around. I'd be delighted beyond words though, if they put them in as a last minute addition or 'surprise', but I'm not going to hold my breath. Anyway.... I think blizzard missed an opportunity to make a new rare hydra with a kaiju inspired (I know, it's japanese, but still fits the Asian theme) or Asian dragon themed skin, it woulda been perfect.

It's not a debate, Ziarre, we're just sharing our feelings. No logical consistency required

Re: How I feel about MoP tameable "rares"
Anyone else feel like there should be a "Track Tracks" skill or something?
Just like, make it unusable while mounted, and have a smaller radius on the minimap.
Hunters in real life track animals by their tracks, and they find those tracks by finding other indications of the animal being nearby.
Most of the time, they don't just stumble upon tracks on the ground and go "There's meat nearby."
Just so that people like me, whom for whatever reason, the tracks don't appear on their screen, (or people who are colorblind, etc.) can actually get a general idea of where the tracks are when we're nearby.
And to be honest, I'd feel more like a "hunter" if I were forced to be on the ground to find the tracks. The minimap would simply be like our character spotting it if we don't.

I think Loq, Arc, Krush, Aotona are the standards... the feeling is that Blizz is moving away from those.Ziarre wrote:I'm still really confused as to why people think these recolors are different from other recolors.I'd understand if they were being compared to Loque, but it's really baffling to compare them to, say, Ashtail.
But for me, it really boils down to that none of these new ones really excite me. Quillen do the most for me. Am I jaded now? perhaps. But I don't see anything that made me go WOW like the first time I saw Loq.

Half of those "standards" are not unique models (though they are no less striking for it).Slickrock wrote:I think Loq, Arc, Krush, Aotona are the standards... the feeling is that Blizz is moving away from those.Ziarre wrote:I'm still really confused as to why people think these recolors are different from other recolors.I'd understand if they were being compared to Loque, but it's really baffling to compare them to, say, Ashtail.
I'm puzzled as to why Wrath is being held up as the definition of what rares "should" be. There were rares in vanilla - in fact, there were many rares in vanilla that had the same skin as commons. Still do, for that matter.

Probably because of the introduction of spirit beasts, a family made entirely of rares.
