orcs live with wolves , ride on wolves , befriend wolves , but they tame boars?
ofcourse its hard to find a real good match with human hunters
still i think orcs should have gotten the wolves ;)
I like the boars for orcs. :) Boars are tenacious and hardy and carve out a living in the harsh climate of Durotar. Wolves aren't even native to Durotar in terms of wandering beasts. Boars just really suit the stubborn vivacity of the orcs in my opinion.

Oh, reminds me of Karathyriel's story he wrote with the Orc hunter and his boar. ^^ http://forums.wow-petopia.com/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=312

Wolves seem natural for humans as canines have been one of the top companions to human beings since the dawn of time I'm sure.

I'm not sure I like the tauren's starter pet,but I suppose everything makes sense. Notice different races had different weapons too? Undead/crossbow-omg awesome.

New unique find through that shows Night Elves starting with a mount model tiger with black and white stripes and Tauren starting with the purple and green tallstrider! Worgen are again confirmed with be paired with a mastiff.
Could it be...? The Frostsaber Companions (http://www.wow-petopia.com/html/mobs/mo ... anion.html) tameable in Cata!? <3
I hope this will be a cat available for all races at some point. Either from Darnassus or elsewhere.

I think that the worg animations for the mastiff are just there as place holder graphics. Mostly because they're so incredibly glitchy at the moment. D:
Holy crud... it's running like it's forelegs end in hooves. It's so disturbing and creepy and well.. sort of cool. I hope they fix the run to make it suit the mastiff model, but I wouldn't complain if they did something with this model/run combo and altered the model into a sort of hoofed mutated beast or monster. The way the tail is stretching is rather gross! :(

I'm pretty much with the list as well. I agree with wolves and humans, but only because of a WoW comic I read that described the wolf situation. Those expressions of the wolves made me laugh, so hard.

And for moths...I had one named Firefly. Cookie if you get the not very obvious reference. >.>

I had a Firefly-model Wasp named Whedon. Do I get the cookie?

Nightsaber Companions aren't tameable still, just mentioning b/c I was in Darnassus for a quest and figured I'd have a look. (Yes I know I'm an orc.)

I REALLY wish we'd get the old cat models' faces fixed, or get a plain orange tiger skin for the riding saber model, because while I LOVE the orange tiger skin I can't stand the screwed up model on the old cats' faces :(

Yep, list looks good to me as well. As several folks have noted, you could make the case for swapping wolves and boars between humans and orcs, but really, either family works for either race and Northshire Abbey really is crawling with wolves.

And dwarves have to have bears to honour the classic WoW opening cinematic, even if for no other reason :)

I had been thinking on how they've made an effort to give every race a different pet type and I wondered if that may hint that mastiffs will behave differently than the wolf family.

They're so big, sturdy and bulky looking that they seem like they could be a tenacity-type pet. They seem like a protector and as if they could take on some damage. Ferocity could still work of course.
