Well, to be fair, going through the original paladin charger or warlock felsteed quests (the old level 60 ones) will get you an achievement for the effort. So, we already do have class-based achievements (both are feats of strength).cowmuflage wrote:yes cos its HUNTER only thats what makes it silly. makeing class only ones are silly cos its not fair to others

they could really make a lot of this a moot point by bringing back the elite tags on our pets names.and maybe make some sort of rare tag to go with it...

Yep, that would also solve the issue. Everyone would be happy. I think....

Personally I have no problem with there being tamable versions of every "Rarespawn" or "Retired Pet."
Sure having a Spirit Wolf is cool, and it took a little bit of doing. Congrats!
But what about all the people that didn't get a chance at getting the pet?
What about the people that missed it by a day or two because Blizzard said they weren't going to remove it as a tamable pet?
Is that all they are to you, a trophy?
If it isn't I feel sorry for you.
A pet should be your pet because you enjoy it, not that it is some kind of achievement that you can use to make yourself feel better about yourself.
I used to have the hydra skin from Sholazars Basin. (I love hydra's, as they are my favorite mythical creature of all time. Dragons? Pfff....)
The darn thing was annoying with all the noise it made, and I didn't like how he was transparent and small.
Was it irreplaceable? Damn Right.
I let him go to tame a gorilla, yup at 80, I let a irreplaceable pet go for a common skinned pet.
Do I regret it? Nope.
I don't have my pets because of how rare they are.
I have them because they are fun, and I like how they look.
Would I be mad if they made King Krush a common skin that anyone could get without all the effort I put into taming him? Nope.
I would be glad to see hunters be able to get the pet they wanted, not because it was rare or had a better ability than the others, but because they thought it looked good.
If that makes the rarespawn pets more common, then so be it.
I will still remember all the effort it took to get the ones I have, just like remember the work that I put into the Battleground title I have.
Am I mad or disappointed that they are going to make it some people can get those titles again? Nope. Not in any way.
To me this is a kind of topic that shows the level of maturity of the poster. Some topics are like that. But many others aren't.
Is that an unfair thing to say? Nope.
Can someone be offended by that? Sure.
I don't pull my punches, because someone "might be" offended.
Sometimes the truth hurts. Sorry. Thats life.

Re: Breaking Araga... *Araga loves beware*
The only thing is, it really isn't. Once, I to would have stomped my foot down on making spirit beasts common, of all things.Slickrock wrote:I realize what you are saying, but personally, I feel like it would be diminished if they were readily obtainable. You might know that you did the hard tame, but what's the point of keeping it after that, unless you truly like that skin?
Ironically, this is sounding like the hard-core raider vs casual argument that I've seen elsewhere.
Or rare elites of northrend common.
And then I lost my sanity for a week nearly, camping Skoll and I've gone into a depressive funk on my orc hunter because I can't take Krush and I can't ever find Aotona, even after a 24 hour maintanence. Honestly going through the grief repeatedly doesn't make a tame any better or worse for me, it's just does it stand out more or does it stand out less.
Sides;
King Mosh.
Tyrant Devilsaur.
Both share the red skin. Both look the same. Both act the same. Roar the same. Walk the same. Do the same damage. Die the same. Swim the same. One is more common and easier to tame, one is not and is a challenge even when prepared. Yet does the Tyrant Devilsaur take away from King Mosh? No- because those that have tamed him, or any other hard tame, remember the struggle, the challenge, that burning desire to go One more damned try, just one more and I will have you! and throw themselves at the jaws of the animal and start taming the beast again.
So coming from a veteran hunter, who has retired pets, hard to tame pets, and pets that are a dime a dozen, I would perfer chasing after a dime a dozen pets now, and leave the hard core taming to the people who want that cheap burning feeling because for me the challenge isn't camping a rare until it spawns, only to be disappointed when someone else gets it/kills it/I was FIFTEEN MINUTES TO EARLY FOR ITS SPAWN. Ahem. And give me a real challenge.
Even The Beast is basically no different from another Core Hound. Ignore the raid level glitch- do people tame him to gloat about a glitch, or the fact that they tamed one of the hardest beasts in the game? And he is easily a dime a dirt dozen skin because of, lo and behold, MC hounds.
There is NOTHING belittling about this. Nothing.

Oh, for crying out loud.
First off, resorting to personal attacks and profanity is WAY out of line. Period. Knock it the hell off; save that crap for the official forums. I'm not going to sit here and call you out by name; you know who you are.
Now, back on topic. Dropping a pet simply because it's "common" or "more easily obtained" is bullshit. If you put in the effort and you truly care about your pet, you won't give a DAMN what other people have by their sides or how they got there. YOU and YOUR PET will know how s/he came to be by your side. That's all that matters and all that should matter. Anyone who claims that they don't care, because their pet is special to them, but would drop their pet if the skin couldn't easily be identified as a "badge of honor," is full of shit. All those people care about is what other people think.
Look at the Ulduar proto-drakes. Anyone can get them now. They blend right in with the ones that were gotten when Ulduar was still hard. The frost wyrms obtained at 30% buff from ICC will blend in with those obtained with no buff at all. Rivendare's Deathcharger, Anzu, the ZG mounts - these are all more common than they used to be. You can't tell who got them in vanilla/BC and who got them in LK. Pets are no different.
Sure, you're entitled to be annoyed that your precious status symbol is being taken away from you, but don't attempt to disguise it by pretending that you actually care about your pet. If you care, then what everyone else is doing shouldn't concern you.

I think I came in on the tail end of it. I remember my SCM hyena had an elite tag for a while. I liked it.

Re: Breaking Araga... *Araga loves beware*
Well, there is a lot of rare-itist going on around here. It's partially for status, it's partially for challenge of the tame. It's not as much for the skins, because many of the nicest skins are the common ones. (Red lynx in my case).Kalliope wrote:Now, back on topic. So if there were the achievements, or the reinstatement of the rare/elite tags, that would solve part of the problem.
After all, we raid for gear to be status symbols. We do stupid annoying holiday achievements to get silly titles. So pets can't be part of that to some degree?
But honestly, I tamed Krush because he was HARD and RARE. If they made the skin common, I would rather use the blue-black skin, because I prefer that skin, and you know what? That's the skin I am running with. Krush is in my stable. If that makes me a terrible person, well... (I already have wife aggro because I've spent time on this thread, so...)

Sure they can, Slick, and people are entitled to tame pets for that reason. My massive beef is with the people who are upset about their hard-won skin becoming common, so upset that they'd ditch their pet, even though they allegedly care about their pet.Slickrock wrote:After all, we raid for gear to be status symbols. I respect you for sticking with your blue-black devilsaur over Krush, actually. You're choosing the pet you care about, rather than the one who was hard to get.

Well, that's why I started that thread way-back when about what pet would you choose if rarity was not a concern... most selected were common skins, not the rares.Kalliope wrote:Sure they can, Slick, and people are entitled to tame pets for that reason. It's also why I'll have Flameclaw (red lynx) back one cats are viable again.
But there was certainly a fuss when Humar became "common".
Here's another way of looking at it... how many of your current 5 pets do you truly have that attachment to? Perhaps I'm cursed a bit by trying to keep up with the FOTM pet for raiding and trying to keep my dps up, combined with a bit of rare-itis. Right now I only really have that attachment to 2 of the 5. Rest are rare trophies.
(And as we've been "discussing" this as I generate wife aggro, I'm camping for Aotona, because he's rare, and I want to see how he looks with me since I've had that gnomish engineering accident. Would another bird work? Probably. Are there other bird skins I like? A few. But Aotona is rare...

Re: Breaking Araga... *Araga loves beware*
Hmm.. Let's see.. Out of the five pets on my main.. Duma (Dishu <3), Bankotsu (Felpaw Wolf), Vixen (Loque'Nahak) Voltali (Skoll) and Banryu (Ghost Hydra).. I'm attached to all five of them. Voltali not as much as the others, but enough for me to keep her. For my Alliance alt, Kinen (Gondria), Rysha (Blue Outland Wind Serpent), Blitzen (Loque'Nahak), Leera (Snow Leopard) and EverRoar (Araga).. I'm attached to all of them except for Leera and possibly EverRoar; Leera is really only there til I find Aotona *Shrug* and EverRoar is there cause I randomly found Araga a few months ago and cause I had her a long time ago on this character, so I wanted to get her back. It's not working out as I planned, but oh well, I'm keeping her due to the fact that I was very attached to her originally. Aaaaand last but not least, for my other alt... Taiga (Blue Serpent), Gahiji (Turqoise Warp Stalker) Asavari (Arcturis) DartFire (Azzere the Skyblade) and Gypsy (Soriid the Devourer).. I love all five of them too.Slickrock wrote: Here's another way of looking at it... how many of your current 5 pets do you truly have that attachment to? Not everyone is torn between the best pets for raiding and their favourites. I don't raid anyway, but I'd NEVER release any of my pets only to get one that I'd use solely for raiding. I have attachements to my pets, and I'd never give them up just to raid. If I was gonna do something like that, I'd take MY pets with me!
Re: Breaking Araga... *Araga loves beware*
Pretty much all of my pets are ones that I'm attached to. The ones that I don't currently are those that I'm giving time, to see if anything develops. If nothing does, those pets will get the boot, simple as that.Slickrock wrote: Here's another way of looking at it... how many of your current 5 pets do you truly have that attachment to? Re: Breaking Araga... *Araga loves beware*
I love all five of my current pets (grizzled black bear from Loch Modan, ghost saber, King Krush, Chatter, Old Cliff Jumper). This is actually why I recently gave up my blighthound of two years for OCJ. Not because OCJ is rare. I just wasn't bonded to my blighthound (well, as a blighthound; he'll be back in Cataclysm as his natural corehound self) and the most appealing skin to me out there happened to be OCJ's. Happily, I have bonded quickly with my new puppy. He's a keeper.Slickrock wrote:Here's another way of looking at it... how many of your current 5 pets do you truly have that attachment to? And since we're rummaging through my stable...I don't care if they add 50 green devilsaurs in Cataclysm - I'm keeping my Krush because that is my favorite devilsaur skin. I don't care if there's a bunch of people running around with him; he stays.
See, you keep your rare trophies separate from the ones you care about....cause if you cared about them, you wouldn't be qualifying them as rare trophies - you'd just see them as your pets. And you make a clear distinction. (And to be perfectly frank, my comments earlier had not been directed at you.)
God, I know that feeling. I would have been perfectly happy if Krush hadn't been a killer tame; I just wanted a green devilsaur. It's not that you're specifically rare hunting; it's just that the skin is only available on a rare spawn. Good luck!Slickrock wrote:(And as we've been "discussing" this as I generate wife aggro, I'm camping for Aotona, because he's rare, and I want to see how he looks with me since I've had that gnomish engineering accident.
