I feel the same way, I've often wanted to make a toon or name a pet a Danish name... but then it looks all wrong. I mean, I know what the word means but to 99% of the people I'll interact with it'll look weird and they'll pronounce it all wrong. :| I know it doesn't matter to a lot of people, but I guess my ocd is showing itself there... :?

I think it really depends on the scenario in terms of similar names. If a person just picked the name without realizing they're copying somebody else, well then sure, it probably wasn't intentional and it's probably rude to demand they change their name.

BUT a lot of the people here are talking about somebody intentionally picking a similar name in order to ruin somebody else's reputation, and that's NOT okay.

This, very much. We're talking about two very different scenarios.

Someone on Nesingwary has the name Ryno. I had to settle the the h at the end of it. Same thing on Rynoh's last realm. His original realm is the only one I had him with Ryno on.

Hate people that copy your name with a small letter changed just to be jerks. Stupid stupid stupid.

My warlock (back when I was an avid raider) had a gold scam do that. They made a toon with the same name except one letter i had an accent. Sent letters to ALL my guildies with a web address in it and, I'm guessing, info about how it power levels or something.

Noone really believed it, luckily, as the letter was in french. :P

This happened to me, too, with my druid Edaia. I'm the only Edaia in the US armory, and the imposter made the name look identical, maybe used the "i" with the accent above it. Something like that. I think one or two people actually went to the website, too. /facedesk

If someone took my name and I knew they took it, like Rhyela but with a fancy letter (I don't know the alt combinations, so bear with me), I'd be annoyed. As far as those alt letters go, they don't bother me too much until I'm in a battleground and try to /target someone with the first letter of their name with a fancy symbol. I can't target them because I can't type the name. (Basically, in WSG it announces who grabbed the flag. I'm waiting outside to see where the efc is going so I type /target [name]. I can't do that if I can't type their freaking name!)

Well, I have only had problems with my "bank" guild name. Quite some time aga, I made a guild called "The Guild Of Misfit Alts". I even checked WoW Armory to make sure it was available on my server, and it actually wasn't even on any server yet. After running a lot of randoms on a lot of my 80 alts, I got a lot of whispers from people saying how cool the name of my guild was. Shortly after, there were quite a few "The Guild Of Misfit Alts" Listed on WoW armory. I am kinda peeved that people "stole" the name of my guild. But, it's fine. It's on other servers. That, and I know, and all my real-life friends who play WoW know that i am the original creatoer of the name. the thing about the guild name is, there are no accents in the copycats' names. So, nobody really knows for sure if mine is the first made or not. Oh well,i still have my friendly little guild, and no one can take it away

UPDATE: Just went to WoW Armory, and all the other "The Guild Of Misfits Alts" are gone. So, the name is safe once more. lol
