I'm not. I whispered every server first on Dawnbringer a gratz, or tried (most were Horde, wheras I am Alliance).

Re: Why are people so spiteful towards server firsts?
Me and my boyfriend were in the top 20 of our server's first 85's (lost our class firsts though). I'm not horribly interested in the server firsts, but we did rush it. We only quested though (together the whole way, and no instances), and neither of us had gathering professions but we reached the top level in less than 20 hours. And we still had time to eat dinner twice and consumed lots of fruits during the rush. ^^ For me it was loads of fun, I got to spend time with my boyfriend and favourite hobby.
I do see the point, where people say that you need to "exploit" to get the firsts, but I don't understand why people consume their energy on moaning about it. It's just a video game in the end. These people have well planned for it for a long before the launch, and that kind of determination, well, in my opinion they do deserve it.
I've got 4 more toons to level through at some point, and I plan to take them through slowly and enjoy the quests and areas.

About the health issue: Sure, playing 30 hours straight all the time is bad for your health. But surely you all are aware that you can't go for sever firsts every day? That's something that comes up about every two years. Staying up for that long once in a while won't kill, or even permanently damage you. Have none of you ever stayed up all night for a party? A LotR Marathon? A midnight release? Or had unhealthy food for a day? Oh no, I'm sure you all have always had perfect, medically approved sleeping schedules and diets.
Yeah, it's a game. It's a hobby. People sometimes do stuff like that for their hobby, because they enjoy it. It doesn't hurt them, it doesn't hurt anyone else, and therefore there's no reason to give them crap for it.
I don't care about these achievments either, but if other people find them fun to do good for them. I also don't always understand what a lot of people here are willing to do for taming a pet, but I don't mind either. I have to agree with Azunara that there's a lot of hypocricy going on.
About the exploits: The world first 80 when Wrath came out was banned because he abused a bug. Nothing like that has happened to the first 85 (as far as I know) so whatever he did, Blizzard considers it legit, therefore it's legit. Same goes for the other world/server firsts. So no expoits as far as Blizzard is concerned.

I find that weird actually. My friend bought a leveling guide. Its basicly a handbook that Power levelers use. Anyway after a good day of grinding his account was banned for "Not following the esscence of World Of Warcraft" Once they determined it was him not a pay for powerleveler they gave his account back after a week. His char was back to the level it was before he started power levelMindsprocket wrote: Nothing like that has happened to the first 85 (as far as I know) so whatever he did, Blizzard considers it legit, therefore it's legit. Reminded me a of that document where they tested people for what a weekend partying does to your body.Mindsprocket wrote:About the health issue: Sure, playing 30 hours straight all the time is bad for your health. Exactly. Some habits are unhealthy, but hey have to be that: habits.erwil wrote:Reminded me a of that document where they tested people for what a weekend partying does to your body.Mindsprocket wrote:About the health issue: Sure, playing 30 hours straight all the time is bad for your health. We also have to remember that the questing flow for Cata is much better than it was for Wrath which leads to faster leveling. It's so smooth that the levels essentially breeze by, especially if you add dungeons to them.

Re: Why are people so spiteful towards server firsts?
After playing for a few hours yesterday and gaining 1 1/2 levels, I can see that leveling is allot faster than any of the previous expansions.
The quest structure is allot better, and might I add, a ton of fun too!
Regular kill quests are balanced with fun stuff ...Killing sharks with harpoon guns... taming giant sea horses..., and that is just the one zone I have experienced!
So I could totally see how someone could hit level 85 before they knew it, its just so much fun.
The thing that I like the best about the expansion is that the mobs have tons of health.
I can't just one shot stuff like I could before, so it feels like a battle, even when it is just a "regular" mob.
If I had vacation time, and I didn't have finals coming up, I could totally just hang out with some friends, order some pizza and play it for hours...

Re: Why are people so spiteful towards server firsts?
I don't really see any issue with anyone getting "server first: whatever". If that's how you want to play the game that you bought and paid for....go for it!
To use an example I saw in game: I, personally, would rather check out one of the two new starting areas than level fishing to max for two hours straight after release. That doesn't mean I have any issues with the person that does.
I don't really "get" the attitude of "I NEED to get to 85 first!!!!" But, that attitude in general has been around since closed beta....Blizzard actually encouraged it and said that the 1-3 highest level players (I don't recall now, I'm older now, and it was a long time ago) on both sides would get to keep their characters for open beta. A lot of people started rushing through things...and many already had been.
I, personally, would like to enjoy the new areas, and the new quests (some of which I have gotten many laughs out of). I'd like to level my hunter that I FINALLY got around to making, and get her all the different pets I'd been admiring....which, mind you, I've spent hours probably deciding on, and re-deciding on, and making lists, and doing all sorts of crap that other people would consider to be having no life to even think of doing.
But...it all boils down to personal preference. It's your dollar, and if you aren't hacking/exploiting to get what you want, I say go for it. And gratsulations to you if you got a server first. I know if I got one I'd be psyched about it, but I'm also not trying, and therefore not upset about not getting it.
