The color is not tied to a certain spot, i myself have gotten both black and Brown in same spawn point at the far NW area.

I've been camping him for two days.
Day one, 3 hours, nothing serious, no findings.
Day two: I heard his spawn time was 6-12 hours, so i camped him from 1 AM-1 PM, without any breaks or changes in path, not any sign of him at all. Either his spawn time is greater than 12hours, or something wonky is happening here.
Edit: It's highly unlikely that someone else nabbed him while i was on route to another spawn point, Because i was tipping off any alliance that entered the sahket wastes to notify me/not kill him+ the horde population on gilneas is almost nil.
Also i was the only hunter camping him at the time.

I think, sadly, it's anywhere between 6 and 24 hours. What I've been doing is finding out his last spawn time, then check in at the 6, 12, and 24 hour marks. Not on the dot, though, I give about a half an hour to an hour prior to and after those marks, just in case. I'd hate to miss him by a few minutes because I didn't leave a big enough cushion of time.

Heh, I was with TWO other hunters in the area looking for him, and I didn't care who got him at the time because I was hoping to at least get a spawn time to go on...

Two of us circled the area while the third stayed in the middle watching 2 spots... a full circle of the area is about 1-2min, but with two of us basically staying away from each other the time was cut down to 30sec-1min for a full circle... (remember there was one hunter in the middle)...

I passed the north east spawn point seeing nothing, and about 20sec later the other circling hunter messages, "DEAD". I asked her, "Where?" She said, "Come here. It is green." So I headed there and when I got there i didn't see anything, so I asked where it was... She said that a player had killed it and within 10sec of it being dead a druid swooped down and skinned it... it took me MAYBE 15-20sec to get there... I fully trust the hunter because she is in my guild and I had told her I would let her have the first tame anyway, so there is absolutely no reason to lie to me.

The next day she was able to tame the blue one just because it spawned right under her and she freaked out, dropped off of her mount and hit tame. Once tamed she hopped right back onto her flying mount and went back up... no one (as far as I know) saw her tame it)... This all happened in less than 15sec.

Talking about Madexx in General Chat (and sometimes messaging people) on my server will only bring out trolls to say they will come and kill it while you are taming or if they see it it will be dead ASAP. I even had a rogue attack the green Madexx that I was coming down to tame and I offered him 1000g for him to invite me and then Vanish, but he refused because of the trolls in General Chat was saying Madexx dropped the scorpion mount. Afterwards he told me that he thought I was trying to buy the mount drop and didn't know I wanted to tame him... he was also surprised that it only dropped the Tear and nothing else... so he gave me the Tear... not sure how I should have reacted to that but he now knows not to kill it again.

So you can NOT say it is "HIGHLY" unlikely that someone else did something to him.

...and regarding spawn times... I had him narrowed down to a two hour window for like 3-4 days and then all of the sudden he spawned about 5 hours ahead of schedule (the time my guildie got her's), and the next time I heard him spawn was 22 hours later... when another hunter tamed him. Sure there is a chance of him spawning at the 6hr mark, but his spawn time is just like any other Cataclysm rare.... 6-24hrs... and there is NO difference if he was killed or tamed... the spawn time is semi-random (semi-random because it WILL happen within 24hrs).

When Madexx spawned for me, he spawned right underneath me. I immediately dropped down, tagged him, dropped a trap, and tamed. Took about 10 seconds, tops. If it weren't for the fact that I stuck around on the ground long enough to get screenshots (and that two other Petopians were looking also), no one would have known what had happened. It happens fast, and we hunters are getting good at taming quickly because we don't want our precious rares taken from us. Add to the fact that people are covering spawn points very well, and he could spawn, be tamed or killed and be gone before you even realize what had happened. It takes a lot of luck to get this guy (which is why I'm not entirely looking forward to camping him AGAIN, but I need the green one like I need air to breathe).

I'm a bit miffed. I've been helping someone with rare timers. They want a blue madexx too. So what do they do? Insists I give them timers and let them come tame it. That's the thanks I get for constant demands for rare timers, to go check on Jadefang for them? How about Sambas? How about Ghostcrawler? Need those too! I don't mind helping but - I get a bit annoyed when I camp and camp and help someone and the thanks I get is 'well, I can't get the other rare yet so I'm just gonna take the rare from you, say what time did you see him last? ^_^' And I mean CONSTANT demands for when did you see it last? I can be in a heroic, doing dailies... yeah. Or even parking. 'Hey you see Madexx yet?' Like heck I'm gonna let them take it first. A dwarf and I have been out here so long we might start up an ice cream stand.

It's stupid and petty, but I feel kinda used. :/ Oh well, time to go park in Uldum. Am I being selfish and bratty? I told him I was definitely out to tame it - I really don't want this to end in a tag war.

If you can't camp Madexx without them there then you should insist that if it spawns and they tag it first they give it to you, and if they say anything negative about it then next time they need someone to check spawns just say no, and then start giving them false times... sooner or later they MIGHT get the point.

You could also point out how much you have done for them and you will do no more til you get your Madexx pet.

Just tamed the Red Madexx, finally! (I'd still be tempted with blue or green, but I'm satisfied..

Got him at 12:45 am after looking most of the day, either camping, afk camping with NPCScan, or doing mining laps.. (over 30 stacks of ore, lol)

Well, it's something of a relief that I'm not being a spiteful, petty brat. Granted, I thought I'd be done but - blue really kept called to me!

And I finally got him! At 11:33PM Feathermoon time! I was so startled I don't know that I heard the sound or just saw the pop up come up. I spent most of the day camping, since once school starts I won't have much time at all to play/camp.

Me? About a week or two. I hope you get your greenie. I saw green tamed once and once in the while. He'll show up for you! He likes 10-11PM server and 2-4AM server for some reason.

My story is pretty similar I camped semi-seriously for a week and saw absolutely nothing. No dead, no live nothing.

In the same time period I saw and passed on to other hunters:
* 4 Jadefang
* 1 Terrorpene
* 3 Sambas
* 2 GC's


I killed Amegadillo so many times I thought the RSPCA would come visiting.

I was reading about some of the phasing issues in Uldum and had only done the Ramkahen quests and none of the Harrison Jones Quests so I said wth and did the rest of the quests in Uldum.

In the next three days I passed on Brown (the only colour I swore I wouldn't tame), Blue (my co-first choice with Black) and Green (my third choice). Not scientific but in the three days following getting into a different phase I got him every day. Only thing is whether I stick out for the Black but I am getting down to the point I can't decide what to abandon....had to drop Ashtail and Duskstalker for the two I took.

One point of note is both the Blue and the Green spawned at the NW point WAY OUTSIDE the new NPC overlay. Luckily I doubted the boundaries when I saw it so it didn't cost me the tames.

Yeah, NPCscan's boundaries are a little off. I got black, green and blue over the course of a couple of weeks mostly camping him. I passed on a red and a brown to some homes (The red one went to an awesome dude). I'd look for the thread "First time camping rares" and use the crescent moon map from that. It's lead me to them.

And yes, I'd say even with being diligent - unless you have watchers at all points that you can miss Madexx VERY easily. It only took me a few moments to get blue Madexx. Granted, it was 1:33AM my time and I was like OMFG OMFG BLUE BLUE EEEEEeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee *exploded draenei* so it took me a sec to get my bearing straight, click the target and pull him into a trap then tame. It only took like 12 seconds in total. That's not a very big window. Though, not many people might be actively searching for him. The brown one stayed up awhile. Poor bronzie. And those wastes ARE a high traffic area for quests and gathering (As well as those bloody underground bots. UGH. I keep reporting them...). NPCscan was a big help, just mind that its map is a bit off.

For what it's worth, my times seeing him ranged from a couple of days to 9-28 hours. He seems to like afternoons and late nights/very very early mornings. I don't know that this camp is Basin bad, but it's definitely a haul.

Either way, congratulations on those with their new buggies and much luck to those still on the hunt.

So far on my server, the times I've personally seen him or heard him found dead have been between 3:20 p.m. - 8:50 p.m. Haven't heard of any late-late night or early morning, but then, no one I know is out searching for him during those times, either.

Been flying around out here for a good 4hrs now, still no sign of Madexx. Last rare I want to get too!

Edit: Well after about 30 minutes from when I posted on this thread he decided to spawn for me.. And of course in the one I least wanted.. At least I now know what time to come back tomorrow.. Hopefully Green or Red will show up.

Stepped away from my PC this afternoon to cook some lunch. Was setting water to boil when I heard a faint noise from the office. Roommate perks and says "its your mod!" and races off. I take off too... come back in and see NPC scan alerting me, but no scorpion. I curse, assuming he's been tagged in another phase again, and fly sadly towards the ground to look around a bit.

And then he loads, in all his glorious green goodness. I somehow tap and then tame him... and freak out, hahaha. 2+ weeks is the longest I've spent camping any pet so far. Named him Nanda, which means "Joy" because it seems fitting.

Unfortunately I have no screenshots to share, as my screenshot folder is apparently full, meh. But he's wonderful, absolutely worth the camp. And that, I believe, concludes my cata pet camping.

EDIT: oh, and he did spawn at the northwestern spawn, just like the screenshot above me actually :) had wandered a few yards north by the time I got there.
