I think this thread should be called "Should They Be Removed?" and a poll added.

Choice 1: Remove any rares that have an exact copy on a common mob in the same zone

Choice 2: Leave them alone.

Madexx Brown, King Mosh, Old Vicejaw, Bjarn, Emberwing, Takk the Leaper, Death Flayer, Scorpitar, Haarka the Ravenous, Soriid the Devourer, Lapress, Krkk'kx, Clutchmother Zavas, Sri'skulk, Rekk'tilac, and Chatter

I'm with this lot...
Not to mention rares that have common, easily obtainable alternatives in other areas: Broken Tooth, Dishu, The Rake, Death Howl, Gorefang, Barnabus, Timber, Ghost Howl, Lupos, Mist Howler, Snarler...

And that's just cats, worgs and wolves.

Back in the day, some of these were special, but their specialness was rooted out and "equalized". Some of us who remember are partial to them, even though it's much easier to find their common lookalikes.

Edit: Thought I should also mention that I'm camping for black Madexx -- I've found him in red and green so far -- but I went and got a venomscale spitter too. Just 'cause.

*smiles..first off.yes Ive tamed the brown Madexx. Twice. First because "woohoo Madexx" then realized it was Brown (but kept it anyway in case) and second because NPCscan went off even tho I had the brown on me (and I had the message ..You cant trace Madexx because you already have him). The 3rd time I came acrosss Madexx..again I had him..with me..but NPCscan still went off..indicating..I thought. That something Other than brown spawned. But..that wasnt the case. The Brown appears by this logic to have 3 different NPC IDs, because I had the brown on me and NPCscan still went off.

And btw we are talking longterm...I KNOW Im not the only one who has had this issue. AND we are not talking about getting rid of the Brown Madexx skin altogether.

OK..now on to the other points. First off. I would wholeheartedly agree that ALL rares should be different than the MOBs surrounding them. They should be unique in some way..whether it be by a diffferent skin..different model...or something special about them remaining after the tame (like the Silver Dragon circle, 10% size increased or what have you)

That does not effect MOBs which have Rares in Other Zones (but really the silver dragon circle or other rare indicitive factor would make even these more special)

Wondering what those are? Those are the names of every rarespawn that have an exact copy in the same zone. By your logic, these rares should all just stop spawning because "there's the same skin on a common right there." This is a pretty significant amount of rares that we're talking about here. Some of them only JUST returned too (Chatter, Rekk'tilac). Remember those long camps for Takk? How would people feel if HE disappeared because, "Lol King Reaperclaw has same model in same zone". Look at all the Silithid rares. (Krkk'kx is the returned Silithid Ravager by the way) Each and every one of them has a color copy in their own hive. Should we remove all of them and do more harm than good? Soriid and Haarka were very nearly removed too. Remember back in Cata Beta when those two turned into Colossus bugs? That caused some strife for those that loved the base model. Now imagine if they were removed again! Look at Chatter and Rekk'tilac. People were heartbroken to see them gone. They were overjoyed to see these spiders return to the game. What would happen if they were ripped from the game because, "Lol walk 2 feet and get the common". How about those lowbie Horde hunters that risk life and limb to tame Bjarn? What if he was suddenly pulled from the game because Mangeclaw is exactly the same and is also in Dun Morogh?

To sum it all up....removing rares just because a same-model common exists would just cause more harm than good. Especially with such a significant amount! I'd rather rares stay where they are. Sure Madexx has the little "Multi-color Dream Scorpid" problem...but you WILL get the one you want eventually. By leaving in all these rares, everybody is happy in the end.

Agreed! But I think the counter-point that someone could bring up is, all of those rares you mentioned only spawn in their one color. Madexx is one mob that spawns in five colors, one of which is a color many people don't want. I can understand where they're coming from, but that doesn't mean I agree with it. There are people like me who would rather camp the rare than grab the "lolcommon" one, because I enjoy the hunt. It almost seems like, since there are frustrated people who haven't gotten the color they want, that Blizz should just rip out the one color that happens to be on a common mob. That isn't fair to people who like rare brown Madexx. Sorry to say it folks, but we ALL know going into this camp that there's a one in five chance of getting the color we really want. If having a blue Madexx is that important to you, you're going to be disappointed when it doesn't spawn, regardless of whether it's brown or red or green or purple or pink or polka-dotted. Come on, let's face it, the majority of us just won't be happy until we get the one we want, and even if we get a sparkly red one when we originally wanted green.....we'll be back for green later.

So, I suppose what I'm saying is, and it may not sound nice....suck it up. We ALL are going through this, we all are finding colors we don't want, we all knew that this was how Madexx would be when we decided to camp it. Not like there aren't a billion and a half horror stories here.

And it's not like I'm telling everyone to suck it up because I got my favorite one. I didn't. I never got my green one. It just so happened that I fell in love with the black one I ended up acquiring when I really didn't want it. /shrug Give those colors that you think you don't want a chance, they might surprise you - brown or not.

I agree with you, I'm lucky in my Madexx search that when I started I wasn't color specific I just wanted one to spawn and within an hour of looking I got blue one..I was quite happy and said to myself ok I just want one not all five, but then once I hit 85 and got the other rares I really wanted. I got the Madexx bug again..and decided I wanted black red and green! and they all spawned the only two that repeated for me was black and blue..but I saw every color even brown although sadly someone had killed him as I was about to ask in General if anyone wanted him.
I am one of those people who like the brown Madexx but I don't really want him for my character Kiyanna....and now that hes looks like your average scoripid makes me go meh..but that's me I wouldn't want to take him out of the game completely.

When I first heard about Madexx here I looked at the colours and the photos and said to myself "Self, you like green and brown, go get!". I gogetted and gotgetted a red. I said to myself then "Self, I have to say you do like that cutie, but go back, ok?". I did. Then behold, a bronze common appears from the heavens! I got it and loved it and snuggled it. Yesterday I bumped into a blue Madexx, and agreed with Self that I quite like that one too, but I will camp until I get green anyway.

But thank the heavens for the brown darling that is not hard to find and so I know if I meet the green I can let him go and retame him later once I've sorted my stables out. Thank the Noah, the heavens of Azeroth and Draenor, the Naaru and Elune!

Well, the difference here is that all the others come in only one colour, while with Madexx you never know. Which is a problem for people who don't care about the "rare" status and just want a specific skin. For example, I have Jadefang because I like the green colour the most. When I first saw pictures of the shalespiders I immediately fell in love with the green. Then I found out that that's the rare and thought "Oh, of course! " Since I'm not much of a camper I tried the other colours, but I couldn't deny that green is the best, so I camped Jadefang and got him. But no way would I've camped for him if had been able to get a green shalespider another way.

So if I camped Madexx it would only be because I happened to like one of his unique colours the best. And it would be incredibly disappointing for me if after hours/days/weeks of camping I got the brown one, not because I hate brown (I actually like it), but because I camped for something I didn't need to camp for. To me that would be a huge waste of time.

I do understand the other side, though, as I have King Mosh. I've been fascinated with the guy ever since he first stomped on me back in Vanilla, and I knew that if I ever got a devilsaur pet it would have to be him. So I too like certain rares more than their common counterparts.

But still, my problem with Madexx is that you don't have a real choice because you don't know which colour he turns up in. You can't choose whether or not to camp for brown, if you get brown you just have to deal with it. So yes, I think that either brown should be removed from Madexx' spawns (but let people who already have it keep it) or give the common Horde scorpids a different colour.

But then again, I've thought that giving the same rare different colours was a stupid idea ever since I first heard it. In my opinion, Madexx should be given only one colour (but again let people who have the other colours already keep them) and the other colours spread out to different mobs, could even be different rare spawns. But I'm aware that this solution would cause a major shit storm at this point (which is why I think the multi-colour Madexx shouldn't have been implemented in the first place, because then nobody would care), so things are probably just going to stay the way they are.

On a completely semi-related note....

I still do not have my Green Madexx, and even though I have every other color of Madexx there is... and I have had the brown one the longest... I still like the brown coloring the least.

So that is almost 9 weeks of camping... one stable slot left (thinking about ditching the Oil Hawk to free up one spot)... and have been in Uldum for so long that I have actually tamed the four other colors, and have seen some colors spawn many many times...

I have seen the Green Madexx once... around Dec.20... getting killed... have... not... seen... him......since.

I am very very upset with someone over this, and I blame everyone except myself.

Which is exactly why many of us went into the desert with an idea of what their favourite colour was, but also with the decision to pick the first one that showed up, whether brown, green or whatever. I saw a green one tamed from underneath me first time. Can't say I was too sorry, since it's my least favourite. Next day, I got my red. And just a few days ago, on my way to do the Love Fool daily, I spotted the green again, which I tamed. Like I said, I'm not a fan of the green, but I had wanted one more Madexx, should I happen to bump into him, and was willing to take whatever showed up even if it is the ugliest of the lot, in my opinion. I think people who want a specific colour and just won't let go of that idea, cause themselves unnecessary stress and hardship.

Me first, me first!

I had an issue the other night with me accidentally purchasing two of the same heirloom (guild level) cloaks with gold so I had to email a GM.

About 15min later, a very nice GM messaged me and asked a few questions about which character had the extra cloak in their inventory. After everything was fixed she asked if there was anyhting else she could do for me...

So.... I asked her to make Green Madexx spawn for me. Then we got into this lengthy conversation on how many times I have seen the other colors of Madexx since I started camping him, and she asked when I started the camp (Dec.18)... she was amazed that I was that diligent and yet I had no Green Madexx, but she was also surprised that I had the other four colors. She then informed me that she couldn't make the Green Madexx spawn for me, and she was truly sorry she couldn't... she even did a :*( emote.

Oh well.... you can't blame me for trying.
