As a physical attacker, Magic Bounce will work WONDERS for Mega Absol, since it would otherwise be completely crippled by paralysis and burn. It's MUCH better than any of normal Absol's abilities, that's for sure. (And I gotta say, Absol's abilities are.. Decent. Pressue can mean enemies can use their really powerful moves just a little bit less, even if Absol is likely to get facerolled by said powerful moves, Super Luck means critical hits EVERYWHERE, although it's still dumb luck-related, and Justified is okay because yay attack boost from getting hit with Dark type moves, but Absol really shouldn't be taking that many hits anyway, resisted or not. Overall, Magic Bounce is just better than any of those, as much as I'm a sucker for Super Luck.)
...Ahem. Just felt the need to pop in here and say this, because I personally love Magic Bounce. *Hugs her awesome little Calm Minding Magic Bounce Espeon from Black*
I don't play competitively so I'm afraid this means nothing to me.

That sucks majorly D: Each pokemon has its own gender to me (that most likely made absolutely no sense but I dunno how to explain it...) and I just cant ever see any of the eeveelutions being male, any of em I actually desire has to be female. Lucario's for example though in my mind look alright as both male and female, but Ninetails is also a hands down female and Zoroark is a hands down male (just kinda throwing out examples haha). So the fact its gender locked to be a guy is more than an inconvenience for the fact only females can pass DW abilities on >< I can't help but be picky D: It's like hunter pets, they gotta be -just- right XD
I'd love, if I knew how to, make a trade with you but I have absolutely no idea how to connect with people beyond in-person contact, nor do I have wireless to do so ;A;
Uhh...why is Magic Bounce useless? It prevents crippling which is nice whether you play competitively or not. Even if your opponent knows Mega Absols ability. It's even better if they don't because then they would try to cripple it and fail. But, either way, it makes Absol a cripple free Pokemon which is always good. I don't understand how it's useless. Either way, though, I'm totally using Mega Ampharos instead XD Amphy is my all time fav electric Pokemon, tied with Jolteon, of course XD

They probably make it gender locked specifically to prevent it from being used to breed more :c
If you can find a place with public wifi you could probably use the trade thing. You would need to go to the top of a pokemon center ingame and talk to the middle npc. I think we would have to be registered in each others game (and in the room at the same time) but the wi-fi club should be global.

Precisely. Even outside of competitive battling, Magic Bounce is one of the best abilities ever. In-game enemies are EASY to predict the move choices of, if you know their movesets. In the Battle Subway, I do love making a game of trolling Pokemon with my Magic Bounce Espeon by just having him sit in front of a Pokemon that I know has nothing but non-attacking moves. (Like this one Skarmory. It ALWAYS spams Spikes and Stealth Rock on my Espeon, only to set up the moves on its own side, and it keeps doing it. Then it Whirlwinds. Which makes IT switch out. It's.. Very amusing. XD) The game's AI is very easy to make a mockery of when you have Magic Bounce. As for competitive stuff, it will definitely make your opponent think more about what they want to do. Do they want to use Thunder Wave on your Salamence and risk you switching to your Mega Absol to just bounce it right back at them, or not use it at all and risk being unable to cripple that horrible Salamence that is ripping their team to bits? Magic Bounce means you can play mind games with your opponent, even when your Mega Absol ISN'T switched in. (Granted, this is all assuming one can actually do the whole bait-and-switch thing with Mega Pokemon. There may be a chance we may not be able to do that. Although perhaps it'll work like Imposter Ditto, where it switches, immediately transforms, and then the rest of the turn goes. ...I think that's how it works, right? Oof, I just woke up. Forgive me if I'm spouting nonsense here. XD)
Anyway, the point is, Magic Bounce makes Mega Absol COMPLETELY safe from getting crippled. Which is a HUGE boon to it, as a physical attacker (Who may actually have some respectable speed now.).
Okay thank you I get it no need to treat me like shit about it. x___x
It just seemed like an out-of-place ability compared to all the others. I mean they're mega Pokémon, I thought Absol would be given something... unique.

Sorry if you thought that. I didn't mean to come across like that and I don't think anyone meant to if they did. I was just confused. Mega Amphy's ability isn't all that unique either XD He's a mini Zekrom with the same ability as Haxrous lol

..Sorry, but.. What? No one has been antagonizing you or anything of that sort. We've just pointed out how useful Magic Bounce can be, and it turned into a big discussion about it. We're not mocking you or saying you're stupid or anything of the sort. Heck, at this point the discussion hardly has anything to do with you now. It's mainly me and Shalyth who has been discussing the uses of the ability and such. No need to get all defensive and act like we're out to get you. We're not. I'm sorry if it may have come across that way, by the way. It was not my intention to make it seem that way, if it did.
(As for getting an unique ability, Magic Bounce is actually pretty unique for Mega Absol! Magic Bounce has so far, been ONLY a Dream World ability, and only on two Pokemon, if I remember correctly. Mega Absol is the first Pokemon to has it as their natural ability. And it's the only purely offensive Pokemon who can make use of it! Xatu is PURELY a support Pokemon, and Espeon, while it can be a pretty great special attacker, is still more commonly used as a support Pokemon with Magic Bounce. Mega Absol is pretty special in that it's nothing but an offensive Pokemon with an AMAZING defensive ability that works absolute (No pun intended. XP) wonders for it! ...And it's much more unique than Mega Mewtwo getting Insomnia! XD)
(And, uh, I don't see how playing for fun changes anything here. Playing for fun (Which, I may add, does not immediately equal "doesn't play competitively". I play the games for fun, but I still competitive battling on occasion. XP) or playing competitively doesn't change the fact that Magic Bounce is a great ability. It's useful in both cases~ But I understand that you may not know all of the abilities and what they do, and that's fine. When I replied to your original post, I was just pointing out how good Magic Bounce is, and.. It just became one big discussion in the thread. XD)
Oh sorry! x___x Now I feel like the idiot haha. It just seemed like people were going 'uh, what, no, you're wrong' especially since you both had 'uhh... what?' comments at the start of your posts and adfndjksfs ignore me lol. I'm being weird. I dunno I just don't feel comfortable knowing I've been playing Pokémon probably as long as you guys have, since I was just little, yet I still don't know all the abilities and what they do and what Pokémon has what, etc. I didn't even know Magic Bounce was a thing until now. D': You've cleared it up a bit though and I can see how it could be pretty useful. I guess I just got a little annoyed cause I thought most mega Pokémon would have unique abilities - I thought the point of the mega forms was to make each Pokémon more unique and not just more playable.
Also, when I state 'just for fun' I don't mean competitively as such. (': That too, but I mean like I don't farm and farm for perfect natures all the time (Sometimes I do on my favourite Pokémon, but not all.) and I don't plan out what abilities and moves they'll have, etc. I did for my Minccino but that was just because I wanted to play with Minccino and not Cinccino and thought I'd have to plan her out quite well in order to use her at all.
I do kinda wish I knew all the abilities and what was good or not but I have such terrible memory and I don't know how I'd learn anyway. >.<
Also I don't know what Dream World Pokémon are arrggggggg. D': Is it a Black and White 2 thing? Cause I haven't played that one yet... Or maybe something at the end of Black and White? I'm only about half way through White's story and I'm playing through it as we speak but I feel dumb now djfndksjfnjks
Heheh, it's totally fine! I understand. XD I suppose my wording didn't help all that much. Although the "uhh what" was pretty much my reaction in real life. XD I guess it sounded less confused and more.. Um.. Well it sounded less confused than I meant it. Derp. XD
And fair enough~ I guess different people have different ideas of "playing for fun" means. XD For me, even with all of my "grrr have the right nature you silly Pokemon" is still playing for fun, because the reason I breed for good natures, stats and EV-train my Pokemon is because I love them, and would rather them be the best they can be. As frustrating as all of that is, in the long run it makes it more fun for me, because I know my Pokemon are being the best they can~ (Granted, I don't go through all of that trouble for the Pokemon I use on my in-game teams.. I reset for natures, but I don't go crazy over EVs or IVs or anything of that sort with them. ...Generally. XD)
Hee, I find that a good way to learn about all the abilities is to get a strategy guide to go with whatever game you're getting. (I've gotten a strategy guide to go with almost every single Pokemon game I've gotten to date.) It helps both in playing through the game, and learning all of the abilities and all that~ There's always the option of looking them up online too, which is a pretty good way too.
Problem is I don't know what natures are considered 'good', I mean it seems to depend on who you're talking to. I suppose that'd be a good thing really though since it's up to people to decide for themselves what's good or not... but I'm not sure that actually is the case. I just find that adamant and modest work as decent natures most of the time. ;n;
I actually do have two guide books though! They're the volumes 1 & 2 created for B&W2. The most I do when it comes to planning is planning in advance exactly what Pokémon I want in my main team and figure out how to get them before I start. I feel like I should be better at this by now. x___x
Well, true, it does depend on who you're asking. And it depends on the Pokemon, as well as what moves they have. Adamant and Modest natures are very good, though. Although again, it depends on the Pokemon. XD Generally those natures work best for physical/special attackers, respectively, that are either fast enough to be able to focus more on power, or are just too slow that even a speed-boosting nature isn't going to do them much good. Otherwise, Jolly/Timid are good contenders as the best natures for those Pokemon. Of course, sometimes it varies.. Like for Mienshao, sometimes a Naive/Hasty nature is better, since there's a good chance it will be running a special attack of some sort (Grass Knot/Hidden Power Ice), so a nature like Adamant/Jolly that lowers special attack is not the best nature, while Naive/Hasty is better because while it still boosts speed like the Jolly nature, it instead hinders one of Mienshao's defensive stats, which honestly don't matter. While most of that is all competitive silliness.. It generally stays true in the general in-game stuff. Try looking up natures on like, Bulbapedia, or something, and figure out what they boost and what they hinder, and decide which works best for whatever Pokemon you're using~!
Hmm.. Well, maybe just take a half hour or so to just sit down and go over the guides' sections on abilities, and such? Or again, you could look them up on Bulbapedia. There ARE a lot of abilities, so it's definitely hard to remember ALL of them. Pretty sure there's still some abilities that I forget what they do pretty often, so it's not really that big a deal. XD
(And hey, if you ever find yourself having trouble figuring out what nature/ability/whatever is best for a Pokemon, you can always just come and ask in this thread! I know a lot of us are totally willing to help~ Heck, if you want, you can just send me a PM whenever you'd like, if you need help. I'd be totally willing to give some tips and stuff whenever you need them~ c:)
WOW, the thread just boomed during the night. I feel like I missed all the fun. lol. Magic bounce absol is going to be a boss in competative battles [if they're allowed] I do wonder though if these mega pokemon are only obtained through events, or if the item required works for all pokemon...like the lucarionite, will it work on all lucario or just a special event one.

cowmuflage wrote:So what if someone takes the item away? I know there are some moves that can do that I think.
I'm going to assume Pokemon holding a Mega item can't be affected by Thief, Trick, etc. since it would count as a "form(e) item". Kinda like Arceus holding a plate or Giratina holding a Griseous Orb.
I dunno. I think it would add to the whole deal if there was a risk like that.
There's a brand new Anime that will run along with X and Y. This anime however, will not follow Ash at all and instead, we'll be going back to the first generation to follow Red from the games. :3 It should follow the exact storyline from Green/Red/Blue versions.
Interesting. Might be good to have a breath of fresh air with a new cast for a pokemon series.
