Well, they don't have a modeled mouth, no. But they do have something textured in there that .. frankly.. looks a bit.. "cute"?

So luckily they don't fully suffer from the no-mouth problem.

Because I am lifeless, I took the liberty of recolouring the ravager a bit. Firstly in some colourations that in-game ravagers have, and then some extra ones.

Recolours based on existing ravager colours:

Nice work :). They look great.

I do wonder what we'll see. From the creatures so far, I believe that the art team is going through a 'somber' phase like WotlK. Lots of subdued colours, which is contrary to the philosophy of Burning Crusade. That could well be deliberate. But it would be sad if we don't see lots of bright ravager colours.

There was some discussion going on in the mount thread about the new ravager model and its relevance as a hunter pet that would be better off moved somewhere like here.

From a purely concept perspective I love the new model a lot. I love how mutable it is, how much it changes appearance as it flips from ground to flyer form. I think it's a beautiful piece of work from the art team. If this was a new form of silithid it would be perfect.

Put forward as a ravager... I still have some reservations. I think I can pretty much sum them up under two headings:
- people love ravagers for what they are, how they look, their upright posture and ugly little faces that make them feel a little more anthropomorphic. This is radically different. Even if their link can be explained by how ravagers mutated under fel energy, it'd be like saying that silithid wasps and beetles should be in the silithid family simply because they're related. But they weren't, they look like beetles and wasps and were placed in those families.
- pet families are as much about functionality as genetic relationship. Even dogs and wolves were split up, and we have two bird families that depend on their nature and skills rather than their relatedness. Having seen this new model in motion, it functions like a silithid or a wasp, but not really a ravager. So unless they add a new morph so it does the ravager upright walk thingy, I'm probably never going to see it as really a ravager and it certainly won't attack like one.

Still, like I said, i do love the model :)

Thanks guys. Sorry to some of you that it seemed like these might have been official. I just did it because I was bored and I wondered what they might look like with different colourations. I'm sure some of those will make it in. Perhaps not exactly like that, but I think the green and purple one are pretty likely, given that red/orange-y, green and purple are the main colours the current Ravagers have.

Ha-ha. I hope that that skin will become available as well. I also noticed that I made a mistake because of you. One that I won't mention because that will mean that everyone will be unable to unsee it. xP

Also, say hi to Strawberry, everyone! :

Dagnabbit, now I need that one, too! I love that color combination!

Edit: I just want to say that while I am having a really hard time seeing these as a ravager as well (that would take an awful lot of evolving, haha), it takes nothing away from the fact that this new beast just looks flippin' awesome. When I saw it fly, I was like O.O They could call it a puppy at this point and I wouldn't care. I think it's because I love the silithid skeletons, and I've always wanted to like ravagers but never could. That pointy thing on the front just seems so naughty to me and I couldn't get past that. So having a "ravager" with the cool appearance (minus the pointy naughty thing) and the silithid skeleton is awesome for me!

I'm glad you like Strawberry. That coloration makes "her" look like she would be very much an attention-seeker and cuddler. Okay, now I'm just being silly, no? xP

But I can easily see them as a Ravager, because they haven't explained what these are as of yet. They haven't given it an explanation, and still people act like it's a travesty. It could literally be anything. A cousin species that went extinct, or the possibility that it was just extensive evolutionary and genetic degradation. Just look at the Warlords of Draenor Hydras and Chimeras. Those are literally nothing like their Outland counterparts aside from the basic movement. These Ravagers at least resemble the current ones. The Thunderhydra is nothing like the Outland one.

Whatever the case, I love it. I never expected this, and it looks awesome.

Anyway.. anyone else have a colour request? I can do just the normal chitin colour, or a normal chitin colour with the spikes and all that a different colour.

EDIT:
Added a few more green accents to Strawberry. Made her eyes greener, as well as the spiked parts of her mandibles and her teeth.

Which do you "guys" prefer? The previous one or this one? I'm not so sure myself.

I definitely like the green eyes on her (the second edit)! However, for the sake of keeping the thread on topic and keeping the pictures on one page, I do think you should make a new thread for future requests. (Possibly for other WoD creatures, too...? I can't wait to see your edits when the Hook Wasps are revealed.)

Nice, glad you like the second edit!

And.. ah, yes. Sorry, guys! Hmh.. mind if I PM you for some advice, then? As for Hook Wasp edits.. I don't know. That would really depend on how many graphical effects they have, and how clearly bordered they are, colour-wise. I will definitely give it a try.

Sure, go ahead! In the meantime, I hope the pet-ravager models are datamined soon.

They are really well done. My favourite is the green with red tips.

Start a thread in the art forum like I did when I was doing those skin mashups and recolours :)

Started the thread. And glad you like it.

Also, this is not really about a new hunter pet reveal, but I just tweeted Muffinus about the Stormcrowmount model. The only problem it has is that when its armour is removed, it looks really cool, but each leg misses a small part of the model as result of the rings covering the model in the mount version. It could be that they could fill that up, or that there is a beast version of that animal in the works/in their database.

In which case I asked him if he would think about making that model available for hunter taming purposes. It's a really cool model, and bird lovers only really have a lot of low-res models to tame in many cases. The last carrion bird model is from WoTLK, and the last Bird of Prey model is from MoP, but as nice as it is, it's meant to be a critter model, and like with the seagull, that's noticeable. That brings the newest bird beast model that is tameable to Cataclysm, which is really specific, because it's an Undead eagle. Otherwise, they're all vanilla-era model. With the Dread Raven likely off the table for tameability for at least WoD, I thought it would be a good thing to make the Stormcrow tameable. So fingers crossed, peeps!
