I guess I'll need to get a new battered hilt, I got the 2h Quel'Dalar on my warlock. Still it makes sense.

What about tier item models? Like will I finally be able to deck out my gnome priest in the time lord set? (I'm guessing no). If not, how does it handle models that are from both tier and non-tier (eg: firelands paladin set)?

... append "so far" on those questions, I know it's not finalized.

If the transmog collection is actually account wide, please consider my post as not posted!

Yeah, the devs confirmed account wide wardrobe at Blizzcon. :>

Also, when it comes to tier sets, I'm going to go out on a limb and say that it'll probably still have class restrictions on it like it does now.

Never bothered to read this until now. I think I'm in love. There are several pieces that were old quest items that I had to just rule out because it was long, long ago that I had completed and tossed them. This is nice.

Account wide as well? Well, there goes the "I needed this on my darn *insert job*!" as long as you can equip it to get it into your wardrobe. Although, it'd had to be same type it seems. That's a little disappointing. Even though my Hunter can equip cloth, I can't unlock it in my Wardrobe. This is something I think should be changed. It should atleast unlock it as you did obtain the item. Maybe not actually use it on that character, but atleast unlock the entry for it. So that cloth set piece finally drops but while on my Hunter and not my Warlock? Tough luck? Meh. (I'm understanding that right, right?)

Yeah, unlocking other types of items should be possible.
Think about a warrior or hunter who change their armor class at level 40!
Will all the unlocked mail items from the warrior then be deleted?

The restrictions of only mogging mail on mail and cloth on cloth should not be altered, though.
Only daggers/fis weapons should be paired.

I kinda hope they'll lift certain class restrictions tho. There's some shaman-only gear that I always wanted for my hunter. Keep it, mail to mail only, or plate to plate only, but remove those specific class restrictions.

I believe they're changing this as well. Warriors and hunters/shamans are going to start in their respective gear type now instead of flipping at 40.
Let me double check on this though.

Edit: I can't seem to track down the source of the info my friend gave me, but looking into the WoWhead Legion data, there ARE some older plate wearer mail pieces that are going to get flipped to plate. Such as this lvl28 piece from Scarlet Monastery [Live is on the left, Legion Alpha is on the right]:

Edit 29384282: Another example!

Here is another example, almost the entire Demon-Forged Mail set is getting flipped to plate for this change. Any sets that were str/meant for low level plate wearers is getting changed in Legion to plate. This also does mean that we as hunters are losing some transmogs from lowbie str sets.

UNFORTUNATELY, this also seems to have been mostly applied to the no-longer obtainable Scarlet Crusade set, so there goes at least one of my transmogs. :/ I spent a good bit of time going after those pieces before they were yanked, so I'm slightly frustrated by this change to this one. I am unsure who to tweet about possibly keeping THIS set as it was prior, since I know a lot of mail wearers are going to get a very sudden surprise that their transmog set is no longer usable and stuck on a toon that can't use it or even unlock the look, since we can't equip plate.

Probably has some good and bad potential to it I guess. I wonder how many sets that are leather based right now will be converted to mail in legion? Or if they'll add new sets to low level dungeons so that every armor type has something to shoot for?

Oh no they don't. I'm going to log out with the Scarlet set pieces equipped on my hunter. I am NOT going to lose that set. I mean, it makes more sense to be plate since it IS plate mail in every way possible except armor type on live, but it's still infuriating.

EDIT:

I went on an angry rampage through the alpha forums and old blog posts, and found some good things;

"All item appearances in your bank void storage and inventory are automatically unlocked."

I hope this stays true.

Surely they'll implement new sets that share the same appearance, like they did with the Isle of Thunder "legacy" troll items?

I can't believe Blizzard would be so oblivious to remove existing transmog options from mail classes.

Yeah I hope not. :/ We already have fewer options than a lot of the armor types since there's only 2 classes that wear mail. I would be very disappointed if they removed some.

Sadly, even if it is unlocked you probably won't be able to use them for transmog on your hunter - if it's a plate appearance, you won't be able to use it for mail gear.

I've got the set as well, and will be seriously pissed off if I'm not able to transmog it anymore.

I'd also expect them to reset all currently transmogged items, in preparation for the new system.

If it's any consolation, we will also be obtaining new Leather sets as they are converted to Mail. For example, the very popular "Flowing Water" set, with the asymmetrical shoulder, or its lookalikes are available to both mail and leather classes.

If leather-> mail items have identical leather items and mail->plate items have identical mail items, then it's a win-win for everyone.

If existing items that were converted also unlocked their identical items of the other armor type (e.g., a rogue with the Soul Eater shoulderguard wouldn't be able to use it for transmog in Legion, but COULD use one of the leather lookalikes that it unlocked), then it's no trouble at all.

If not, it would just be a simple matter of doing a few more legacy quests to unlock those appearances.

Crossing my fingers that Blizzard will have some sense with this change.

I would guess all (some?) of the sets lvl 39 and below. Maybe not the BoE items.

Found a bunch of added mail items
There's at least two mail eyes patches, a headdress, one sided shoulders and a lot of the colorful leather sets I'm quite fond of leveling up my Shaman/Hunters but can never use later on.

Ya, but quest rewards are apparently only unlocked if that character can use the reward. Although my Felguard can (and does) use the 2h Quel'delar, my warlock cannot. Still, getting the 1h version isn't nothing. If demo warlocks can xmog over their magical skull, then we can be twins.
