"Get up close and fight WITH your pet"
"Stand back and COMMAND your pet, and fight from ranged"
"SNIPER" (Though I still think they should have gotten the gun.)
Giving MM back the pet seems... ehh... like caving to shut people up. Which sometimes can be good (Points to Haiti) But sometimes... ehh...
Not for... nothing but MM haven't been using pets for a while. I never saw MM running around with pets in the last expansion. They went MM to get the DPS boost from lone wolf and never looked back.
That's not to say that MM hunters aren't 'Hunter's' they just express it in different ways.
Now it's "Weak gun+Strong pet" vs "Strong bow+weakpet" and that just doesn't 'Live the fantasy:" to me
Survival at least is significantly different and innovative.
With the 'add back the pet' i will say it might be the only way I'd play MM now.... because I love my pets. I __________HATE______________ The BM Artifact.. so if I can go MM and get the Bow+A pet....
I'm going to have to weigh it. MM+Bow+Pet vs BM my fave and long running spec.. with Fugly gun, but with added shockdog.
You see this as wrong
Blizz didn't gave back pet to MM
in Live MM still has pets
What Blizz is giving is a choice to be competitive with or without pets in Legion.
I disagree. In the last expansion MM played with out pets. Sure it was an "option" but not one anyone used. If you were marksman you didn't have a pet due to lone wolf being so strong. The last what 10 or 15 posts point this out. If you wanted a pet you played BM or Survival. MM just clicked that lone wolf on and never looked back.
Now they're taking out what would make two specs unique. BM being 'ranged with pets' is no longer unique, and MM being apex snipers but with out pets is no longer unique.
Now it's "Strong pet+weak gun" vs "Strong bow+weak pet, maybe" (but likely not as they'll still choose lone wolf")
Blizz had the CHOICE to be competitive with or with out pets in legion already. It was "Beastmastery or Marksman"
You can still have MM with pet on live.
The only reason a lot has chosen lone wolf is for competitiveness
the 8 years prior to wod with MM with pets outweighs the 2 years of option
Lone Wolf is one of those talents that has so much great flavor to it, but ends up being a trap for so many hunters. When design and balance forces a player to unnecessarily choose between two playstyle preferences that are otherwise not in opposition of each other, it needs to be taken back to the drawing board, especially when its as great as Lone Wolf can be. I know balance between talent choices will never be perfect, and things like stat inflation and encounter design complicate things. It just seems to me that a hunter should never have to pick between having a pet (a core part of the hunter fantasy) and having competitive damage output. Those two have no business being in the conflict that Lone Wolf's current design put them in. Its an artificial and unnecessary choice.
Edit: I should clarify to say I am referring to playstyle preferences that are iconic parts of the core class fantasy (and both pet MM and petless MM fit that) should not be in conflict with design and balance. Other classes (and probably hunter as well) deal with other artificial conflicts between playstyle preference and design created by talent balance that aren't core parts of a fantasy, and while worthy discussion, its not what im referring to here. A Frost DK not being able to use Breath of Sindragosa or a Fire Mage being unable to use Meteor are examplese of non-"core class fantasy" design vs playstyle preference conflict. Not many talents alter core class fantasy the way Lone Wolf does, so its unique in a lot of ways.
I never used lone wolf and have always been MM. I know we aren't a majority, but if Blizzard is leaving back to giving us the choice, then there must be enough of us to matter.
I've currently been roped into the petless-MM thing, just because I happened to win the bow drop off H-Mannoroth and it's BIS for Marks. Since I'm in a raiding guild, I got pressured to go Marks as a result, and because I wanted my damn moose, I did it.
I hate marks, although a fair bit of my hate for it is thankfully resolved by the tier bonus that removes the cast time on aimed shot. I REALLY hate not having a pet. I hate that my damage buff goes away when I have to move, and what do you have to do in EVERY GODDAMN FIGHT IN HFC? Run around like a ninny almost constantly!! And yet even though I know my damage buff is dropping off all the time, and even though I don't have a pet on target all the time, I STILL do better dps as petless marks than I do as pet-marks or pet-BM. This tells me Lone Wolf is -extremely- broken, and really needs to be fixed.
someday I'll find someplace to host a sig that isn't stupid money-grubbing photobucket

I 100% agree with this. I think LW is extremely broken too in that it's pretty much the ONLY choice you can take to be competative in raiding. Having a pet should atleast be an advantage during high movement fights imho.

"Marksmanship Hunters must once again choose the Lone Wolf talent to play without a pet. However, to select this talent, you will first have to watch as your beloved companion sadly sulks away, occasionally glancing back at you to see if you’ve changed your mind, while listening to “In the Arms of an Angel” at maximum volume.
You monster."

Love it!!
Oh my god. XD WHY DO YOU DO THIS TO ME?! I HATE THAT SONG CAUSE OF THE COMMERCIALS!
^ I know right? I have to cover my eyes everytime I see one of those damn ASPCA commercials come on, cause I'll cry or beg for a new pet XD
I'm totally having that played at my funeral just to force people to cry when I'm put in the ground, probably in bagpipes. The rest of the time will be liquor and cake and dancing. XD
Aside from that, I will make a gnome hunter and get a Mechanical Conch. So I can go LOOLOOLOOLOOLOO!!! And do nothing and irritate my friends while I eat all the food
Well, since BM is using a gun, not a bow, and SV is a spear, it wouldn't make sense for other specs to have quivers. The quiver is 'part' of the artifact weapon, I think, not 'all people who use bows now get quivers'.
Wouldn't mind an ammo bag for BM though. Probably won't get it 'cause Hati is BM's 'additional thingum'.

For this expansion, I suspect you are right on all counts. What I wonder is about the quiver if you mog over the bow. Since mog is entirely about looks, a quiver that matches the artifact would crash with mogs that didnt share the same color/feel.

Not what I meant, I'm hoping other bows get quivers too, or atleast something generic so us people mogging the dyson vac can have one. Although I don't mind the idea of having the vac-gun ammo bag, I hate the actual gun.
