Re: Beetles!
Hm I'm thinking they're gonna change Beetles into their own species now.
Re: Beetles!
They are in their own family, if that's what you mean? When they were first made tameable they were pretty much identical to silithids in stats and abilities, but they were always classed as beetles, not silithids. With the new patch they're reported to be tenacity, so that's one change.Protego wrote:Hm I'm thinking they're gonna change Beetles into their own species now.

Re: Beetles!
Yeah I heard about their tanking change. They're gonna need their own ability/abilities (whether or not they're Exotic) now.

Re: Beetles!
Now that they are becoming tamable I decided to research beetles a little more, and the first one I checked was my favorite, the red one SilithidScarabSkinRed; I saw that this is available as one of the "flavors" of the color changing Uldum beetle (maybe at a lower level too...), however I was hoping it might also be available elsewhere in a more permanent form - can someone check the spawned versions in Eastern Plaguelands (spawned by nerubeans in the western tunnels) and Stratholme (can't remember wherein but wowhead says they also spawn from Nerubeans)?
I don't care if I have to go to more trouble to get these, just want to know if either of these is listed as tamable (or if has made any other appearances in cata)

Re: Beetles!
BRK has a Beetle movie up today, and he says it has a "steal armour" ability - he suggests this is just a tenacity thing, but I hadn't heard about it - is this in fact the actual pve useful beetle special?

I like seeing the beetle in action! I know he was commenting on how... unsavoury the move with the stinger was, but man, it looks so beetle-like.
(disclaimer: I've no idea if real beetles have stingers or if they fight like that.)
I can't wait to tame mine!!

I hope there are ones with a dedicated scarab-like skin. I think those are the prettiest.. though I do like the red/pinkish one a bit.Sarayana wrote:I like seeing the beetle in action! They don't, although they do sometimes have venomous bites.Sarayana wrote:I like seeing the beetle in action! Re: Beetles!
Not sure about venomous bites, but lots of irritating oils, chemical stinks and explosions. The pose the pet beetle goes into is actually not so far from the bombardier beetle when it lets fly.

Re: Beetles!
I'm definately considering taming one of these, but what would make it even better would be a Beetle with a Ladybug-coloured skin! (red with black spots, or a reverse ladybug, black with red spots)

Re: Beetles!
Just watched BRK's movie. That beetle is certainly doing some untoward things to those mobs. I can just imagine the unsavory beetle names now, considering the maturity level of the player base.

Re: Beetles!
I am now officially obsessing about pet abilities.
This "steal armour" that BRK notes - it's not a standard ability such as other classes have access to, and it's not in the opet spellbook when BRK shows it. Seems that it might just be a holdover ability that the Uldum scarab mob has, and not the long-awaited insect pve skill.
I ask a great deal, but it would be appreciated if a beta tester with a little time could conduct an experiment:
1. see if the Uldum scarab mob applies this debuff in the wild
2. see if a non Uldum beetle (i,e, from Tanaris etc.) applies this debuff once tamed.
Have a bad feeling that the beetles are going to get some daft root or stun or something instead
Big thanks for anyone if they can look at the above.

Re: Beetles!
I'm afraid neither of these are tameable. In the EPL tunnels, the only red beetles in there were critters.Worba wrote:Now that they are becoming tamable I decided to research beetles a little more, and the first one I checked was my favorite, the red one SilithidScarabSkinRed; I saw that this is available as one of the "flavors" of the color changing Uldum beetle (maybe at a lower level too...), however I was hoping it might also be available elsewhere in a more permanent form - can someone check the spawned versions in Eastern Plaguelands (spawned by nerubeans in the western tunnels) and Stratholme (can't remember wherein but wowhead says they also spawn from Nerubeans)?![]()

In UD Stratholme, the nerubian boss spawns an undead red beetle.
I'm going to head to Blackrock Spire now to see if the yellow beetle there is tameable. Though, I have noooo idea where to find it.

I'll keep on hoping right down to the last minute - they did after all just make red spiky crabs tamable... <3
EDIT: Oh hey, on the EPL tunnels, I'm pretty sure the red beetles are spawned in some way (they are lvl 57-58 according to wowhead http://www.wowhead.com/npc=10699) - either directly summoned by the nerubeans or else they implant them in you and then they erm... hatch and start attack you?

Found the yellow beetle (spire scarab) in LBRS, not tameable.

Re: Beetles!
I haven't tamed one yet, but when I Beast Lored one, it had Bite (pretty sure it was bite, anyway), Growl, and Cower. Didn't see any unique abilities yet.
