hooray for this one! I still don't like the skin and have 5 spirit beasts already, so I'm not going to go all out trying to get this one.

This isnt devastating for those who already have the Ghost Wolf. Stop QQ and just announce "I'M MM WITH A ORIGINAL GHOST WOLF" before every dungeon and raid.

I just get tired of the OMGNOTFAIR since only I can have it! You! You hunter you! you dont get shiney because you didnt have a hunter back then! Shame on you lesser being!

Main point: He's still a rare, and he's still going to be a highly sought out one at that. Grabbing him will still be a accomplishment. As in finding Loque'nahak is still an ACCOMPLISHMENT... it will still take some people 1 year and 10 months... (sara). I just don't like people QQ about how they're unique thing that was never originally intended by Blizz is being ruined now.

Heh heh yeah, I've been after Skoll on and off since they introduced him. :3 But I think the important thing about a pet is that one is happy with it. They probably wouldn't just up and change wolves to spirit beasts - that'd probably be a coding nightmare and bugs a-go-go. And yeah, it sucks too if you didn't have the gear or a friendly shammy to help you tame the wolf, etc. and it's not really someone's fault Blizzard yanked the spirit wolf away.

It'll still be a pita to get (I'm ... not really a fan of this skin, so you'll see me pitching a tent by Skoll, the scorpid or FIRE TURTLE instead) so hey. In a game as popular as wow with a limited pool of options, people are bound to share the same pets/looks. But then, there was a lot of grumbling when mount costs were reduced too.

Without confirmation by someone who is on eta with their ghost wolf, we can't be too sure.
At the moment, we're guessing no, currently tamed Ghost Wolves will not be turned into spirit beasts. Until we learn for sure:

Oh... and if the people who have the old model start complaining trying to get Blizzard to remove the new beast... I can tell you they will lose that argument before it even gets out of the gate. There is no reason to act like there is a grandfather-clause on the wolf skin or anything.

I hope Blizzard unconsciously makes everyone happy... that would be neat, because if they purposely make everyone happy then they should just start every character out at L.85 with the game completed and everything acquired. Yes, I am being sarcastic.

I can understand people's frustration if they have to go BM in order to have their old model out, but is being BM really that bad? I haven't ever played Survival, and I haven't played MM since before the big change... but from the DPS I can do in BM just by standing there and spamming Arcane Shot and Kill Shot... it is insane to what it use to be. Supposedly the BM spec gets "raid viable" at L.85. No clue what that means when you don't even "raid" til max level anyway.

My point is... Don't complain. There are other pets you can use... we have 25 pet slots now. Oh... and Blizzard can NOT make 100% of the people happy 100% of the time. I can't even make myself happy 100% of the time.

It's Karoma... it still shows the same thing though... and I am glad someone else saw that too. :P

I need more hunters, IMO.

I feel for those who tamed the first spirit wolf. I didn't get a chance to get it since I stop playing for awhile, but I always held respect for those who were able to jump on that ball before the lock out. I hope Blizzard denotes the original wolf. I doubt they will turn existing wolves into exotic; not everyone likes BM and all. That's why each class has 3 specs.

With that said, I'm not all that impressed. Skoll is much more appealing as a spirit beast. If this new guy was a regular wolf, I'd be more inclined to chase it. I'll certainly tame him for my spirit beast collection, but I don't think he'll be out with me a whole lot.

In all honesty, I think Blizzard might still be leery of doing anything to the original, few, tamed Grimtotem Spirit Guides that are left. That whole fiasco was a watershed moment in how they decided to deal with hunters and those perhaps-not-originally-intended-to-be-tamed pets. They know full well there are people who have not forgotten the declaration that those wolves would remain tamable, only to have their availability hotfixed out no more than 24 hours later. They remember the outcry...hells, hunters won't let them forget it.

The Ghost Wolf incident affected the way they handled the crocoslime and the ghost hydra. It definitely affected the way they handled Garwal. I don't think they'd have much of an appetite for provoking hunters over the spirit guides right now, what with the precarious state of the class' confidence in itself in this gap between Wrath and Cataclysm.

Given the difference in playstyle between MM/SV and BM, I think it'd be pretty obvious which you were dealing with. If you get Aimed or Explosive shot, then chewed on by a ghost wolf, it's a Grimtotem. If you get stunned then Kill Commanded by a big red see-through ghost wolf, it's a spirit beast. ;)

Nice find for those of you without a ghost wolf, too bad it's a spirit beast. -.-
Yea, glad they put it back in the game. Worries that they'll make the old-ghostie a spirit beast.

Pent wrote:The only thing I am worried about is having two different beasts that look exactly the same being two different pet families. ...and I think that will be what Blizzard falls back on...

I can't think of any existing models of pets that look EXACTLY the same but are in two different families. The newly tameable ghostly blue birds in BEM (from Wain's thread) are listed as birds of prey, but are clearly carrion birds... BUT... they are the only ones to use the skin.

Blizzard could scale down one of the models of spirit wolves, or make one skin larger than the other to show the difference... but I am not sure if a non-hunter would be able to know which is which until they are taught to look for the subtle differences.
I don't really see the big deal about them looking the same. "Zomg, I can't tell the hunter's spec by looking at his pet!" This already happens. If a BM hunter is using a normal pet, you don't know off the bat what spec he is. And a pet won't help you distinguish whether the hunter across the field is SV or MM, either. That said, I wouldn't put it past Blizz to change it anyways, though I'd hope they wouldn't.

As for the wolf itself... more BM goodies. =/

But you can tell the difference. Thats the thing. With the wolf now, you cant.

I agree with this so much. :)

Not quite the same as telling by appearance and Blizzard has that thing that hides/groups the buffs so I'm lucky to even seen said buff.

Slightly wrong pets there.
Look at the bottom of this page:
http://www.wow-petopia.com/look/owlarrokoagreen.html

Two of those skins are Bird of Prey, yet there's also a Carrion Bird. Identical model.

Ok, let's say Blizzard accidentally added a brand new spirit beast to the game - really cool looking, on par with Skoll/Loque/what-have-you.

Lots of people go tame it.

Next tuesday, Blizzard removes it from the game - including existing tames, and posts a note on general forums stating "Unfortunately as <megacoolbeastX> was not intended to be in the game for the foreseeable future, it was necessary to remove it. Thank you for your understanding."

No reasons are given concerning why they didn't want it in the game, beyond the simple statement that it was unintended.

Would anyone have a right to complain about that (or even to be bothered by it), since however cool looking, it after all was unintentional on Blizzard's part?

People whine regardless though. Druids lost the ability to do fun stuff like running around as a skeleton in CAT form because a yellow bar is just "too difficult to notice", people are morons and do that so we just accept it.

However this said, the owl is both Carrion Bird AND Bird of Prey and was likely an oversight, they left it alone. Garwal, well it was obvious why they nuked that, they've become a lot better for leaving things alone. The Blight hound is also irelevent, Dogs didn't exist yet and now they do and given it's a HOUND, yeah.

So it's a case of, until Cata is released, just hope for the (Very likely) they'll be treated as totally separate beings. Someone with a Ghost Wolf to check on a transfer to Beta won't hurt though so if it is converting for some reason they have the chance to put their foot down and state why it shouldn't.
My main's a Druid so I of course love critters. That counts for something right? Right?

That wasn't the question; it's a given that no action on Blizzard's part will ever get 100% approval from the players - the question is, broadly speaking, are players always/categorically wrong to be bothered when Blizzard takes something away that they [Blizzard] had unintentionally added?

Worba, luckily Blizzard tries to avoid scenarios like that with Hunter pets. Correct me if I'm wrong, but the only completely deleted unintentional pet that made it into live was Garwal, and they had perfectly valid reasons to do what they did: he had the appearance of a Worgen, which happened to be a future player race. Everything else we've gotten to keep.

Well, that's it. I'm going to be power leveling the week cata comes out JUST for this wolf. Oh god, I teared up a little when I saw this post.

I wanted the Ghost Wolf back when it was available, but none of my damn guildmates would take 20mins to help me out. Blizz said it was unintended, but that they wouldn't be removed, so I relaxed- surely I could bribe someone to help. Then, a few days later, they were gone forever.

So I thought.

I will be camping this rare the second I hit L85, and I will sit there every moment I'm awake until I get him!!! He is my dream pet!!
