I read about the scaling down / scaling up. So you can quest with someone lower than you and your character progresses?TygerDarkstorm wrote:I love my Asura ranger, mainly because the pets in this game don't grow alongside you and I'm the kind of person who likes to have somewhat larger pets running alongside my hunter/ranger.![]()
I dunno about any free trial offers as I've been offline quite a while now.
I think there is a server transfer system available, however, I don't know the details without going to their main website (which you can do too).
I personally feel like GW2's dynamic events are a lot more fun than Rift's. But everything about GW2 feels better than that game, imo. One of the greatest things about GW2 is not having to run back and forth to quest givers and that helping your fellow player out will always benefit you as well.

I don't think they have a trial yet.
there is, you can do it every seven days and last I looked it was free, it was supposed to cost around $10 a pop though but weather or not they implemented that I dont know. haven't played for awhile.
the dynamic events keep things interesting but for me personally the character story was the big draw, it works abit like swtor with different "chapters"
I like the scaling personally, it allows you to come back to an area later and still get some exp.

Couple questions for the intelligent masses if thats ok:
Is there any reason I wouldn't want to play as a Asura Ranger?
Do they have any free trial offers coming up?
Do they allow server transfers?
By watching gameplay it gives me a feel of RIFT in a sense with dynamic events. Are those pretty fun? (RIFT's I thought were decent/meh)
Asura rangers are a rare race/profession combo. I haven't seen much. Asuras, RP wise, are more about mechanical things (aka their golems) and inventions. Not to say an asuran ranger would be impossible. You can pretend you are a zoologist. Also your pets will be huge next to you, which can lead to some camera issues but if you like having bigger pets than you go for it. I'm also bias but I love my asura. They, imo, have some of the best animations and voiceacting.
No free trials at this time or any that have been announced.
Server transfers now cost gems, which you can buy for rl money or gold in game. Don't worry if you are on a server you don't like and don't have the money to transfer. You can guest now to any server in your region (NA or EU) to try out other servers.
I never played RIFT, but it depends on dynamic events. Most are fun, especially those that chain and lead to a big boss fight. However some events bug often which is annoying.

Ty for info Tyger ~ scaling sounds like a fun coop thing.
Nef ~ the storyline for the personal character is pretty good you'd say?
I'm just trying to find it digitally now for $39.99 or lower (i'm happy to wait until another sale).
Thank you for the info all. I look forward to diving into this one soon.

Everyone has different oppinions on the big finale, I enjoyed it, others found it anti climactic.
Re: Guild Wars 2
I bought the digital version off Amazon. I was able to talk myself with a very nice Amazon rep (they seriously have the BEST customer service) into being able to use a promo code from last month. I am happy

I'm definitely more fond of large pets, so Asura make the perfect rangers for me. Their animations are also great with ranged weapons. I RP mine (or will, once I level him more) as a college of Synergetics member who's most interested in the relationship between energy and nature, so he spends his time out in the wilds. He still thinks scientifically, he just doesn't tend to do so in labs. He's like a field researcher. Kash (his pet) is mostly there to protect him, as it was the most convenient thing; he was going to be out in the forest anyway, might as well tame one of the animals and have it protect him. (Of course he's also extremely attached to Kash, but that's not the reason he'll give when asked.)Wassa wrote:

Re: Guild Wars 2
I think it took me about a hour in a half before being able to 'play' the game. I kept trying to find the right fit for a ranger (Norn are just too big for me). I can live my former dreams of a Gnome Hunter class as wellAeladrine wrote:Aaaah, other people have this too! I love GW2, tho I will admit I am also almost never on and absolutely wretched at playing it. I think I spend more time creating new characters than actually playing them! The sylvari are my favourites, tho. They are lovely.(:

I tried a plant person (Sylvari), I like the general concept of the race, but they're too plant like for me.
I keep forgetting to do my class quests. I get too caught up in events, Shadow Behemoth, Maw, Fire Elemental, Wurm

One great thing too Lupis, if you're still looking for 'big pets' is that you can tame them once you get out of the original quest. First thing I did myself was go and get a Polar Bear west of Hoelbrak (Norn capital city).
That was the only pet I looked up on where they were. Otherwise I'm leveling up to 80 with seeing how many I can unlock before then. Once I hit 80 I'll probably make the rounds and try and gather all pets.
Wassa do you sport a Moa named Hahadori by chance? Just curious

If anyone hasn't already known about this site, (sorry if its been linked in this large thread already)

Another helpful site I use for 'Dragon Timers' is http://guildwarstemple.com/dragontimer/ (just click your server)
If you're a lowbie like me, it'll let you know when the 4 accessible boss fights are. The Maw and Fire Elemental's events restart every 30 minutes or so, and you can get loot from them once a day. Its a good thousand or so exp if you do all the events plus you'll get loot! For me its usually had a lvl 39 Golden item (i don't know what the ranks are called yet).
Took awhile for me to figure out it was White<Blue<Green<Golden or Yellow < Purple

Re: Guild Wars 2
That's a good way to look at it. I only met one asura ranger in RP. He explained he was a ranger because he was raised by commonfolk humans so he was a lot more down to earth than most asuras.LupisDarkmoon wrote:I'm definitely more fond of large pets, so Asura make the perfect rangers for me. Yes Royi I do have a blue moa named Hahadori on my sylvari ranger named Wassa The Seeker. I don't play Wassa that much though as she's still level 50-something.
It's actually White<Blue<Green<Yellow<Orange=Purple<Pink. Purple are legendaries but they have the same stats as exotics (orange items) so they are just for looks. Pink items are only in a dungeon called Fractal of the Mists or brought with a ton of daily laurels and something you only really want to go for if you are hardcore about this game. I have yet to step foot in Fractals myself.

Re: Guild Wars 2
Anyways, my first (and currently highest level) toon is a charr ranger. They have cool designs (and their surprised emote is hilarious) tho they're almost too serious for me minus a certain one from the Order of Whispers heh. Ranger is fairly fun and always having all my pets on hand is nice, as well as being able to tame one of each pet. My next fav is my norn guardian. Love the big guy! Plus he had a funny story about getting drunk and loosing a war machine (stupid tree, all it's fault!). Sylvari are pretty cool, I like how they glow in dark areas and they have some beautiful designs. Asura and humans I'm not too keen on, tho the human stories are pretty funny.
I think I'm addicted to dyes in the game lol, I love changing my colors all the time! My charr looks like a gentleman right now hehe, just missing a monocle!
I think the only things I don't like are the dungeons and fractals. My Primus, the fractals...ug. Also lack of bank space LOL (I know you can get more with gems).
Overall, I really like this game. It's very social to me, and easy to work with others cause of that level down system, but you still get loot and xp for your actual level. There's a lot of great ideas in this game and Blizz should take note.
Re: Guild Wars 2

I love how it takes you exactly the same length to level from 14 to 15 will take you the same length of time as leveling from 43 to 44 (correct me if i'm wrong). Also you can level just as fast at level 20 in a lowbie zone or in a zone at your level. It definitely promotes players playing with others of all levels.
