I've been itching (sorry) to do crabs for some time. I'd like to produce some interesting colours of the new spiked model, but WMV still refuses to render the fluorescent markings. So I decided it was time to grab the topic by the short and curlies (sorry again) and work on the original model crabs instead.

The original model only comes in four natural colours, so it was very easy to come up with new ones. I generated a huge number of skins. Some of them I'm posting here are very similar but I had trouble deciding which I preferred. So my apologies for that.

Firstly some greens. The first one is my favourite and reminds me of a crab that might camouflage itself in a patch of seaweed. I really love the colour. Then a basic green and a yellow-green. Finally a green with purple tints that reminds me of an apple.



Dark teal with blood red stripes:



A rich tan brown. Quite pretty in its own way. Reminds me of caramel sauce.



Congealing blood:



Some burgundy and magenta crabs. Burgundy with dark teal markings (and nice, red leg spots). Fuchsia with cyan markings. All burgundy. Dark wine.



A pair of pastel crabs that don't look too outrageous. Mauve and pink:



A few purples. A nice basic purple. Purple with gold highlights. A nice, dark blueberry jam.



There's already a blue in the game, but I created a few very different ones. Dark teal. Silver-blue. Silver-blue with magenta highlights.



Now for something a bit sillier. I decided to make a Darkmoon crab. I tried to fit all the Darkmoon colours into the skin, but it's not easy without them looking jarring. I hope you like this guy, though. Notice the eyes



A few crystalline crabs based on the one silver skin. The skin is too light and washed out to get decent strong colours, but works really nicely for lighter coloured gems. These three I thought looked ok. Rose quartz. Citrine. Orchid (maybe a spinel?):



I also tried a few colour variants of the black gem crab. I found them all kind of boring, actually. Not bad, just not interesting to me. But I'll include two since I know people will ask about them. Emerald and sapphire:

These all look fantastic! The poor vanilla crabs could really use some love. I've always been fond of them, and though I got fairly attached to a red one for a time, he wasn't enough to stay as a permanent part of my stables. They have such personality though, and lots of options for more colours.

That first 'camouflage' one is great! I love the subtle colours, and with the pale eyes I think it could also be great as a plagued/diseased model in some zones as well.

The green and yellow ones looks so refreshing and citrusy. xD

I love the bright purple one. Blueberry jam might be my favourite though. :3

The dark teal looks like Skorn in crab form, haha!

Thumbs up for the Darkmoon one, that should be on the island instead of the others!

Holy....crabs! I'm so terribly impressed by the old world ones, I don't even know where to start! It's been a while since I've looked at a full set of options and bounced around saying "OOOH, I'd tame THAT one!" with nearly every pic. xD It's so hard to pick a favorite from most of the specific colors (I can't even pick which green), so I won't even try - I'll just say that the Darkmoon crab turned out beautifully and that I love the concept.

As for the silver/gem crabs, imagine them really really tiny. Then they're absolutely precious!

P.S. Wain, if Kalliope ends up with a crab again, it's all your fault.

Agreed! I picked a few to comment on, but I keep going back and admiring all of them.
