Re: Random Pet Challenge [v3.0]

I 'borrowed' my boyfriend's devilsaur for this project.

Looks:

First shot is the overview--these guys are pretty handsome with their black coloring, blue stripes, blue eyes, and flesh colored bellies. The one thing I do wish that Blizzard had done was make their belly area grey (like in Veph's sig) as it looks more natural to the rest of the colors.
The second shot is a close up on his head, showing off those amazing eyes and trademark devilsaur grin. As a bonus, those teeth are real teeth and not just some goofy block in his mouth.
The third pic is a close up on the side of the body with the focus being on the base of the tail, top of the thigh, and the shoulder--for some reason the textures there lower in quality and looks kind of blurry.
Fourth photo is a close up of the scale detail; you can see that in between the cracks is yellow. This feature is what makes my orc love her Mosh so much; he has green detailing there which makes him feel even more perfect for her. Anyway, not sure why this guy's is yellow. I would attribute it to the belly, but this is yellow yellow and his belly is more of a peach color.
And the last photo is a close up of the shoulder when viewed from the front. The texturing looks weird where it overlaps the body and has some green in it which is kind of odd.
Animations (I forgot to get a shot of Pouty doing his idle before I abandoned him so Reptar kindly volunteered):

Devilsaurs only have one idle animation, and that's their famous crouch and roar (accompanied by sound). It's very suiting to them and gives them some personality, I think. For example, my devilsaurs have a tendency to come running back to me after killing a mob and then promptly roaring at my side. These guys are huge softies despite their looks and they like to know that you approve of them.
Their run is benefiting of a big behemoth of an animal as they lumber along. They have one of my favorite swim animations in the game as well. It's not regal looking, but it is fun to watch. They paddle those little bitty arms in the water and do powerful thrusts with those long legs. Also, devilsaurs are very noisy pets, roaring both during their idle and in combat. I find it suiting to their species, others may find it annoying. I like being reminded that my pet is there.

Combat (none of these screenshots came out the way I wanted them too, but oh well):

Devilsaurs have three attack animations, the bite (top left), the head butt(top right), and the foot stomp (bottom). They also spray a lot of blood everywhere as they attack.
Being exotic, devilsaur's have two special abilities: Terrifying Roar (5% increased crit) and Monstrous Bite (25% reduced healing effectiveness). This makes them both a great PvE pet and a decent PvP pet (if you're confident you don't need the CC). We can provide the mortal strike effect ourselves, however, the devilsaur provides theirs as a convenience for us saving us 15 focus. There's really not many mobs this expansion that are healers that don't just get CC'd at a pull so, for me, this ability is kind of meh. And since these guys are ferocity pets they'll put out some great damage.
Pouty did not stay with Venjin. I went KK hunting on a whim on her (even changed her hair to match

Yzma's report to come soon.

Re: Random Pet Challenge [v3.0]

I've been resisting the urge to name a fox Todd (just because it's fairly common), but went ahead and did it for this fox. Ironically, when you hover over "Play" while your fox is playing, you get a line from the iconic song of that movie, and no, I did not know it said that prior to doing this challenge.

Looks:

Foxes are one of those animals that I really don't have much to say about, which is why the slide says "Look Harder"--just in case someone else catches something I missed. But anyway, I actually really love the color of the brown foxes, I think it's a very pretty color and the blue glowing eyes are a nice touch. I like the way the fur detailing was done on them and as a bonus, I think their teeth are real too.
The second photo is a close up of their legs. They seem a little spindly for the fox's body, but I guess it works. The third photo is of the face. This is probably one of the things that bug me most about foxes because their heads are just so angular. It's all angles from front and behind and it's a little strange to see, especially when I keep examining the animal...I just start going O_o.
Animations and Sounds:

Foxes are one of the noisiest pets in the game while in combat. It doesn't help that the noise they make isn't even a real bark or growl, it's just...weird. Foxes sit on the coyote skeleton and will scratch themselves and sniff the ground as they idle. Unlike hyenas who sort of break on the coyote skeleton, the foxes have a much more smooth run and swim animation.
Combat:

I only noticed one attack animation on the fox, which is them leaping forward and biting their enemy. Their specialty, Tail Spin (which makes a dust cloud animation >_>), reduces the attack speed of all enemies within 10 yards by 20%. This means that your pet WILL go running after critters if a critter wanders into your pet's path when this is cast. One solution for this is to micro-manage the ability, the other solution (and my preferred one), is to just pay attention to your pet. If you see your pet start to run in a direction he/she shouldn't be, quickly call it back.
Tail Spin (hurray semi-old cartoons!) can be useful in a group situation where the mobs hit pretty hard; this will help out both your tank and healer. It also means your fox should take less damage if you're out soloing. I suppose you could use one of these guys in PvP, but there are other pets and abilities I'd rather use over reduced attack speed.
Todd will not be staying with Yzma as he doesn't fit her pet theme and Yzma already has a black fox.
Another go please.

Re: Random Pet Challenge [v3.0]

After several failed "FEESH 'AP A BLEEDINK TURTL'." crusades in Dragonblight, Vasken took an accidental wrong turn and ended up here. Right here. A boring ol' temple. The troll hastily fumbled around, trying desperately to resume his fishing misadventure before spotting an odd shape flittering around the snow nearby. Blue... Sca-... SCALES?! There was no doubt in Vasken's mind.
IT'S A FISH.

Wait...

Or not. He stared vacantly at the not-a-wolf-but-apparently-a-dog creature for several minutes. It could've at LEAST been a turtle! Wa-... It's a dogfish. Totally. The apparent dogfish was dubbed "NE'FEESH". He turned to leave, the disappointment evident in his demeano- Ey wat wat.
WHAT HAPPENED TO ITS FACE!?

It's broken. The jaws! THE JAWS! He hastily dragged the bewildered dogfish into the nearby Tuskarr settlement, pillaging their fish supplies and mistakenly stumbling off the pier. Accident, honest.

He noticed something- something odd. It was that good at swimming, it didn't even need to move its feet! WHOA NELLY. Vasken revelled in the fabulous rays radiating from the underwaterwalking dogfish before deciding to squint at his new, talented companion elsewhere. Northrend is COLD.
He made his way to Boren Tu- Storm Peaks. MANDATORY DETOUR.

After waiting for an hour or so for the elusive, poop-coloured, proto-drake, Nefeesh the Dogfish decided he'd HAD ENOUGH. Look at that SCOWL. Those DEVIOUS INVISIBLE EYEBROWS. Those TEETH. Vasken, at first, was hesitant, until the creature crumpled its snout into an ungodly shape. HRNGHHHGGGGGGH. The troll eventually caved in.

Mulgo-... Why Mulgore!? Because walking down ALL THOSE steps in Orgrimmar's zeppelin tour takes EFFORT. The troll and his not-so-affectionate dogfish mulled about the plains, eventually tiring of... The plains. Plains. Everywhere. Many plains left side! Snakes in a plai-

Both Vasken and Nefeesh blankly gazed at the peaceful scenery. Of course, the troll was evidently thinking up the best way to cook his new companion. It's still fish... Right!?
____
... Ahem. Sorryforwritingasillystory. Tend to rarely use pets for PvE and PvPing... Mainly because I hardly do either!

Very, very tempted to keep him... Even if it's filling up that last dreaded stable slot, eeep! Need that space for a (possible) hydra!
Not sure whether to keep the name "Nefeesh", or rename him to "Dogfeesh" or "Dogfish". Scales! Scaaales!

Will finish off Avanji's roll later.

Re: Random Pet Challenge [v3.0]
So my pet was the Brown Beetle. As my images are in another computer, I will have to upload those another time if tis all right.
My first thought when I saw my selected pet was that it looked "dirty", which is rather surprising for a pet you can only find underwater. Finding it was quick and easy and it did not look nearly as dirty in game as it does in it picture. As I wanted to fit him within my naming schema, I named him Oxford. We first went to Twilight Highlands to run a few quests.
Looks: Although I'm not a fan of Brown (most of mine are purple), I was rather pleasantly impressed with his look. It almost seemed to glisten from the first fight. His Thunder Clap animation was nice, but his other animations just seemed weird. I was just waiting for him to fall over every time we walked somewhere. And lunging to attack...just odd.
Abilities and Food: I hate his diet as I almost never have any fruit or fungus in my bag. Harden Carapace is just a copy of Shell Shield, but it just looks weird when it activates...at least turtles have a circular shell to go with it.
Playability: Surprisingly, he was horrible at holding aggro. I mean really bad...my Serpent does far better, and he isn't Tenacity. I did give him a full spec, make sure that his cower was off and growl was on. At first, I thought that this might have to do with his level, but it only got marginally better at higher levels. I felt like I was running and kiting mobs almost the entire time, save for a few random fights where he picked up the slack. By the end, he was holding aggro, but I felt like I was holding back shots to get him to do so. I did love that he wasn't an exotic, which meant that I could go Marksman. Also he did surprisingly good in PvP, but was definitely not terrific by any stretch.
Future: I may try this out with a different look and see how it works. Right now though, I don't see myself keeping this pet.
I'd love to try this again!

Re: Random Pet Challenge [v3.0]
Im sorry that i cant get pictures. Im only 14 and i dont know how to do it.
Taming it:
I tamed a scorpid bonecrawler in Terokkar forest. I tamed it the regular style: Freezing trap.
After the tame I named it Gohma. Why? Because the name of my favorite video game boss is Gohma.( Its a giant insect boss )
Looks:
Its look was pretty cool. I liked how the face looked on it. ( Can you really call that face? Dont know... )
But I dont liked the colour of it. No fan of pink. Still the black spots on it pretty cool. And as someone
else said it is blue beneath the scales if you look behind it .
Battle:
I do dungeons much so i did a dungeon with it. I thought it would make me die a few times but, it did a pretty good job. Did never take aggro from the tank, did pretty good damage
and the thunderstomp was actually very usefull in this dungeon. ( It was the first Burning Crusade dungeon in Hellfire citadel )
Never did a pvp battle with it. ( Didnt have time )
But in the end, I let it loose. Why? One reason. Battle sounds. Its battle sound is... HORRIBLE! It...it... SQUEKED! ( Dont know how to spell the real word ) I hated it! It was making me crazy!
( And I still heard it even after turning down the volume... Brrr!!!

So I let it loose in the end of the dungeon. But, in the next day, I heard rumors about that people found red orcs cleaved in two.
Gohma... Was it you?
Last part:
I could keep it as a pet if they change their battle sounds. If not, you will never see me with a scorpid again.
Thats all folks. Bye!
But before...
Im up for an another roll!

Hmm, that's too bad when pet noises are too much to handle. I'm trying to think of what other pets use those same sounds as a scorpid, but drawing a blank. If anyone can point some out, then Geshou here would know what other pet families to avoid!Geshou wrote:Name: Linebeck
