Re: Leaving...Again.
On the subject of merging threads, perhaps pm the OP asking them to repost their comment in the main thread and delete their original one?

Re: Leaving...Again.
Unfortunately, once a post has been replied to, it can't be deleted, which is why it's best to let redundant threads just die. PMing the OP and asking them to move their post will at least help consolidate things, though.

Re: Leaving...Again.
Sigh.. Reading all this makes me want to start as a moderator again... Even though I don't have the time nor energy for it.
Re: Leaving...Again.
This thread deserves a lot of discussion. In the meantime, we need to point out a few things:
1. Saturo was banned when, after many months of discussions and warnings, she proved herself still unwilling to abide by the forum rules. No single action, no single word, no single person (other than Saturo), and most especially no single in-game beast was especially responsible for her ban.
2. Except in emergency situations, a moderator is online at the absolute least once a day - and usually quite a bit more than that (in the range of 5-10 times a day). If you have reported a post and you feel that it hasn't been dealt with in a timely manner, please PM 'Global Moderators' - which includes this account and Mania - with details. (Please also note that the Moderator account is always invisible.)
3. The Moderator's priority is dealing with reported posts and PMs.
3.1 The vast majority of reported posts are: spam, requests to sticky a post, requests to move a post to the appropriate area, and requests to lock or delete a poster's own post.
3.2 With the exception of spam, the majority of reported posts come from two to eight people, depending on how you count. The top two are [...] and GormanGhaste. There is six-way tie for third. Past that ... the reports are mostly one-offs.
3.2.1 Spam gets reported by a lot of people ... probably a full third of the people who respond to it.
3.3 We see between two and five threads reported for serious rules violations, almost entirely personal attacks, per week. All of those threads see some response, whether that is a lock, a split to preserve the useful parts, or extensive per-post moderation.
3.3.1 Many of the people in this thread who specifically mentioned reporting a hostile thread ... have not.
Lesson: Report the problems, people.
Lesson #2: If you have problems with moderation, report the problem to Mania. Do you know how many PMs she's gotten about the Moderator account? I do. And based on the comments I've seen here, it should be about 5 times that number.

Re: Leaving...Again.
I thought reporting a post was supposed to be anonymous ? Your asking us to use the report post feature more often, yet you point the names of the people that have used it. I don't know about you, but I wouldn't want everyone to know which post I reported and which I didn't. Wouldn't that fall into the name and shame rule ?
Also, Claiming the mod account is on everyday is hard to believe, we had a couple spam threads that where left up for several days and nothing was done about it.

Re: Leaving...Again.
I know what you mean. I could probably go back to sorting out spam and moving topics, but I have no interest in policing the drama side of things. In all honesty though, this is what the community asked for. We tried to figure out solutions in the past and were rebelled against, so now here's the anonymous Mod account.Golden wrote:Sigh.. This is why I'm saying that a good part of any sort of change that occurs has to come from the community itself. A lot of the issues that are coming up now are the same ones that we faced. Hands on moderation, hands off moderation....it doesn't change the basic lack of effort on the community's part of police itself. Saying "oh, the mods should be responsible for that" doesn't help the problem. If you know better, then why make more work for whoever is keeping things in line behind the scenes?

Some good did come out of it, some bad as well. I find Kalliope and I get along much better then before as example. We all know how often we banged heads before hand.Vephriel wrote:I know what you mean. *nods to Adam* That whole thing was terribly messy, but some good did come of it. Some lines were more clearly defined and previously undiscovered breakdowns in communication were brought to light.

(Curtain opens on dark stage. Spotlight suddenly reveals Gormanghaste, sitting in dusty corner eating a PB&J.)
I don't feel shamed, am I supposed to be? I think the whole point of that section was that there should be more reporting of problem posts. I know I'm fairly conservative about reporting things, and I'm just as likely to be recommending a sticky, so finding out I'm one of the top reporters lets me know just how few reports are being made. Unfortunately, the dark side is currently preventing mods from being able to use the force to sense problem posts, so it's up to us to help them out.

Re: Leaving...Again.
I sent her a Pm when that thread about gays went south and it was 2 days before anything happend. That was after she read it too. Just saying sending PMs to her does jack all sometimes.
Allso if the mods on every day why is that spammer still not banned? The old mods used to be good at that :S

Yeah, the spammer honestly has me worried. :/ Especially the malware. I don't mind helping spam clean! *holds up a vacuum*

Re: Leaving...Again.
I'm not sure which one it was (I think the nude cosplayer one) registered as malware to some scanners. Frankly, I'd run a scan or two to be safe with those sorts of things anyway.

Re: Leaving...Again.
The previous Moderator post has been edited to remove the name of one of the top contributors to post reports at the request of that person.
Cowmuflage, you never reported the "thread about gays". It looks like you only PM'd Mania. Thankfully, other people did report it.
Regarding the spammer, there have been multiple accounts opened recently by one spammer. There was a delay in dealing with the latest of these accounts, but it is now banned ... unless there is some other spammer no one has bothered reporting yet?

Re: Leaving...Again.
Then it has yet to be reported, as they are either still around, or you guys are really, really, really sneak about some of your mod stuff. I've started all-out avoiding any threads by them at this point, braver and better people can report them. So that could be considered my fault, fine. But I'd be rather surprised if -someone- hadn't reported it.Moderator wrote:Regarding the spammer, there have been multiple accounts opened recently by one spammer. Alrighty, guys. I made the Consolation Corner thread. Here it is.
If anyone feels like I'm overstepping boundaries, please feel free to PM me about it. I'll step down if I am.

Re: Leaving...Again.
I don't know if I should, but this makes me feel good about trying to help police a bit around here (I don't know if many people have noticed, but I do whenever I see something). I feel less like I'm overstepping boundaries that shouldn't be touched and more like I'm being helpful.Kalliope wrote:

Sorry for the double post, but I felt like the new thread should have a post all its own so it's less easily missed.

Re: Leaving...Again.
I want to say that sending PMs to people telling them to spell better is not helpfull or going to make the forum better. You may be doing it as friendly as you can but it's still very rude to assume you know better and to some people it can be hurtfull!
