Yessss....I'd like to know about what happens with Zuko and his mother. They never fully addressed what happened to Azula after she went bonkers, and did Katara and Sokka's mother really die? I mean, they were told she was dead, but never found a body...?

In the new series, I'm excited. My family loved Avatar series, we'd sit and spend the night watching it VIA streaming it from Netflix. Hopefully they'll be awesome. I wouldn't MIND a stray reference to the original series, but cutting off ties probably is a good idea.

Lastly, I hate seafood. With a passion. And don't get me started on snails. D:

Actually I'm pretty sure it's implied they found a body. If you go back and watch the episode when Katara has her field trip with Zuko, watch the flashbacks. Katara leaves her mother (still alive) and runs to find her dad. When they run back into the house, they have horrified expressions on their faces; presumably they found Katara's mother's body laying there after the Fire Nation man killed her.

It's sometimes hard to tell with Avatar though, due to restrictions on the television. They can't outright show deaths a lot, like with Jet.

Yeah, that and when Katara when on her mission with Zuko, she wasn't looking for information about what happened to her mother. She was dead set on revenge.

I've been re-watching the series actually (partly to block out the existence of that horrible movie) and although a lot of the heavier death-issues are skirted around, I was amazed (and amused XD ) with the crap they managed to get under the radar. Seriously, there's a TV Trope page dedicated. Admitedly. I think a lot of what's on that page is just people looking way too much into it, but still pleny of other things there:

Katara: I have a surprise for everyone!
Toph: I knew it! You did have a secret thing with Haru!

I wouldn't mind a few cameos actually. XD nothing too major, maybe an old character (who is now old XD) popping up in an episode or two. But I'm a huge geek for stuff like that. It's like the creators are saying "we haven't forgotten about these characters, we still love them". Of course, not too many, or too often, lest they just become a gimmick to make more people watch as opposed to watching the show for it's own merits.

I think I'm starting to ramble. I'm stopping before my geeky love for this show causes me to keep going for another few pages.

One thing in mind is bringing back Tommy Oliver in one of the later (and not nearly as well done) Power Ranger Series. :D

Yup, I read that. I'm fine with that interaction, I think that's a good example of a safe 'cameo' from season 1 without being overbearing.

Yeah I agree. I wouldn't mind a few cameos here and there, and there ARE a few people I could reasonably see showing up. Zuko, for example (he'd be in his mid-eighties), or one of his kids, would make sense, seeing as he's the ruler of a nation and I highly doubt the throne switched families in the 70 years since the first show. Aang's son doesn't bother me either, since there still can't be TONS of airbenders around, so Korra'd need to learn from somebody.

I just don't want all the descendants hanging around with Korra again like they did in the first show. Not only would it mean the plot is imitating the first, but it just wouldn't make sense. Aang might be friends with Katara/Sokka/Toph/Zuko, but there's no reason that their descendants would naturally and automatically be friends with Korra, who is a completely different person even if she's also an Avatar. She might interact with Zuko's family just to get into the fire nation and learn firebending, and she certainly has reason to learn airbending from Aang's kid, but that's about it.

I'm just curious here. Doesn't there being a new avatar mean that Aang has died? Don't avatars live to be like 120 years old and stuff?

Yup, Aang is certainly dead because there couldn't a new Avatar otherwise. Who knows how he died...old age, in battle...either way he's definitely gone.

Yeah, though if you think about it...unless protocol has changed, I'd guess that Korra'd be about 16, which is when they usually tell a kid s/he is the Avatar.

70 years later is when the story takes place, so 70-16 = 54. In other words Aang died 54 years after the end of the last show.

54 + 12 (his natural age, not counting his freezing) is 66. Aang died pretty young.

Of course, it's possible he could have died in combat (Roku sorta did) but man, he didn't make it very far, poor guy. :(

I wonder if they'll go over what happened. I mean, if Katara is still alive (who I'm assuming the mother is to Aang's kid), that must have been hard on her. :(

It had to have been hard on all of them, I'm sure, but yeah, especially Katara (who I also agree is probably the kid's mother). And it must be REALLY awkward for any of them if the meet Korra. How weird would it be to know a person but at the same time, NOT now a person?

That would creep me out quite a bit...

EDIT: Benders live over 120 years, apparently. At least avatars. I mean, Hama, that bloodbender, was like 125 or something. They never said how old she was.

It could be that his lifespan was shortened by supernatural events. The lightning-bolt-to-the-back-that-would-have-killed-him-if-not-for-Katara-and-her-spirit-water probably didn't help his lifespan much. Or maybe it's a consequence of the lifebending he did on Ozai. Eh, maybe not, but it's food for thought. The died in battle/assassination works out well too. I hope we'll find out how during the series.

As for the whole "being taught airbending by "Aang's son" thing, why is it I can see that having some hilarious and probably-not-ever-going-to-happen-in-the-series moments...

Great points, I hadn't even thought of that yet!
