Oh, I remember the horros of outside Booty Bay...personally, I blame Samantha Swifthoof, walking through STV looking all nice and killable, making my PvP get turned on...^-^

i remember back in the day as a lowly alliance player on a PVP server.... hunters and mages and warlocks oh my! Ganking while standing on top of the buildings in Darkshore, also the buildings in Gadgetzan as well (if you notice thats why there are guards on top of the buildings now).

Sorry to burst your bubble, Anansi, but this was a largely horde only trick on my realms. And generally the targets weren't high level, they'd try to antagonize lower levels in STV or Arathi with it. The horde also LOVED to follow that tauren through STV and just wait for some unknowing Alliance to attack her. Cue gankfest.
See, that was standard Alliance behaviour on all the realms I've played on, especially STV outside Booty Bay. There was always a lone flagged Alliance character backed up by a group of hidden (unflagged) players. Regarding the lone Tauren walker, it's always been in my experience that Alliance kill her every time she's up and hang around flagged hoping to be attacked and then the hidden friends scenario unfolds.

And sorry Palladia, my bubble is firmly intact, it takes more than a snide jab to burst it :D

As for the Crossroads, Saturo pretty much summed that up, they attack in large numbers but as soon as a few Horde 80s show they bolt. This also unfolds in WG when a battle is not on. Lone Alliance don't gank fishers or miners but they do if they outnumber the Horde 3:1. As soon as the Horde player has friends come to support, the Alliance flee but linger around waiting to see if the Horde leave and then resume outnumber gank attacks.

I've been on Baelgun for a while now so this is all very much what I see there. The Horde side is pretty laid back about PvP and don't generally harrass and gank Alliance (of course some do but it's nowhere near the degree the Alliance do it - for example, you can often find a group of Alliance hanging around the Horde camp when Alliance control WG but you never, ever see Horde doing the same around the Alliance camp when we hold WG - and as I mine the heck out of WG quite often I fly past the Alliance camp many, many times) or even get to worked up when an "(Capital City) is under attack!" message spams. Of course I suspect this may be due to an overriding desire to troll and spam trade chat instead....

That wasn't anywhere near snide. What I am trying to say is that your experience doesn't define it across every server. It's going to be different. I've encountered bad behavior on both sides across multiple servers, but in the end, for ME, the horde always wins out. Doesn't mean it's going to be that way on every server. Your mileage is going to vary.

I just hate PVP. I've been trying to level a hunter for my cousin's guild on a PVP realm, and it's really pissing me off. I understand it's a PVP realm, but when I'm leveling, I want to be able to quest without some level 80 one shotting my lvl 18. I'v e gotten so pissed off, that I haven't even logged into that toon in months.

That's really the problem with PvP realms for me, Fuzzy. I don't mind when some one my level starts taking pot shots at me, I actually think that's fun. But it's almost never that. What it is is some bored or just plain rude level cap going around ganking lowbies and then camping them because that is their idea of fun. Their argument being that since it's in the game that it's okay for them to do it. It still doesn't speak well of a person, in my opinion.

Like I said earlier, that will happen and it is part of the PvP realm experience. It's definitely not for everyone, but quite a few enjoy it. Most of the times when you're being camped, it's someone trying to lure out a lvl 80 for some WPvP.
Back before cross-realm BG's, it often lead to grudge matches and raids on small towns.
It can be extremely annoying, especially if you don't have much time to play, but that's why PvE realms are recommended for people who don't enjoy "any time, any place" PvP.

As for how it speaks about the person behind the keyboard, it actually says very little, if anything. Video game morals rarely connect to RL morals. Ofc, it's more likely that a complete bastard will enjoy something like ganking lowbies, but one doesn't equal the other. It's kind of like saying that anybody who likes fishing is obviously a sadist. In some cases it might be true, but chances are it's not.
And not to be condescending, but it is World of Warcraft. :)

Personally, I enjoy it, even if it can be a pain some times. But I also made getting away from gankers a game itself, so..
The only problem is that it can sometimes put new players off.

Hate horde? indeed i do....
I remember first starting in wow and having horde killing me over and over, when i saw a red name tag i knew i was dead every time and running away on my little 15 warrior did not help as a cow hunter one shotted me as i ran as fast as i could across the fields of westfall hoping to get away..
Then came duskwood and and the first time a horde danced with me, I thought cool he is nice so i danced back it was sooo funny being my first experience other than being killed.
He must have got bored so he hit me once and dead i was. then jumped on his chicken and pranced off. That planted the seed of my hatred of BEs.
Then i enter the horror of stv and getting killed at every turn and trying to hide in the nestingwary tent did not help as a group of horde waited outside laughing at my fear then killed me while i hid..
Fast forward and i hit 80 then i can kill horde lowbies, i ran with a few to TM killing everything that moved to bring out their 80s afterward i felt bad not because we got ran off by a bunch of be pallies but because i killed the helpless, i felt dirty and decided i'd not do it again.
Along the way i've had horde help me get the best cat imo rak sharik, wow a nice horde who cheered me and gave me a hug.
after the tame.
I started to think hey there is a person behind that toon silly i know but up untill then horde did nothing but kill kill kill.
Now i've set rules for my toon she doesn't kill lowbies unless they are attacking an allie, or if i'm trying to take overlook ect. I get sooo many angry whispers as i keep the places under allie control for they need the buff not the cursed abominations that are horde.
Then came my full hatred of the BE race. A BE named cat something and his or her buddies decide that while i'm in ds they are gonna mind control me, turn me into a sheep and make me go to the cellar for the longest of time they kept me that way for nearly an hour, i laughed, cursed and laughed some more. Since then i've got even but they are very well geared so my victories are few.
I love to hate horde if it wasn't for them being soo mean, nice, cruel, heartless, or funny i'd doubt i'd enjoy wow as much as i do.
There are colorful characters on both sides and i enjoy having so much fun with the lot of em.

PVE realms are just boring, but hey, it's world of WARcraft, not hugcraft or nicecraft, you get killed by oposite faction because we're at war, you're not being annoyed by the NPC's that attack you for being hated with their faction, are you?;)

Yes it is war but also it's a game, those NPC's are programmed to attack us...a horde/alliance guard attacks us because it has the programming called attack PC of this code faction.
A player is the opposite, you make the choice, to kill or not to kill. Computer controlled has just a few things in it, it will not move unless it is programmed to do so hence why most ranged mobs DON'T move back.

You as a player can choose. Thrall chooses nothing in the game he sits around all day long in the hold, Sylvanas just hangs around UC they don't respond to you if you /rude or /flirt aka. emote to them anyway.
Okay I may have come off as angry but it wasn't my intention. As I don't want Conga to stalk me on my server and kill me or something.

Note: Had to change class in the middle there.

Hehe, I started playing WoW on a PvP server. I actually loved every minute of it, and I'm really glad I didn't get a PvE realm to begin with. The thrill of questing back in Vanilla (when the world was still, you know...populated) and having that chance of encountering the opposite faction just really made things exciting. I wouldn't have had it any other way!

However, saying that, now that I've gone and played through that experience I'm perfectly content to move on to Nesingwary with the guild as a PvE realm. I've levelled through old world content in PvP so many times that it's nice to take a breather and just enjoy questing on my own in places like Stranglethorn and Hillsbrad and actually focus on levelling instead of looking behind my back all the time.
