You have to consider that a) the beta still has at least 2 months to go, b) the developers are always several builds ahead of the public beta realms and most importantly, c) it just doesn't make much sense (game development-wise) to introduce new pets at this point.
They are still working on getting the class talent trees working, which changed completely mid-beta, *and* several classes like paladins (holy power), warlocks (new soulstones) and last but not least hunters got completely new ressource systems/mechanics. Add to that the still not finalized pet scaling, it would be a bit backwards to introduce new pet families at this point just for the sake of making hunters happy.
Before they can begin working on pets, the hunter talent trees need to "stabilize" first, then they can work on the correct numbers for pet scaling, then they can balance the pet talents/abilities out, and *then* they can go about adding new pets and doing a pass on flagging beasts as tameable.
