A silly, but mostly true, story of taming Loque'Nahak

The Taming of Loque`Nahak

My story begins like so many others, with tales of the mate of Har’koa, hunting food in the wilds of Sholazar. A spirit beast of nature, looking much like a leopard, who would be befriended as a partner in adventure and glory. Loque’nahak is triply rare in that he is desired as friend for those who follow the way of the hunter, as a beast to kill for the likes of Hemet Nesingwary and for the treasure he is reported to carry with him.

I began my hunt with research on the areas of his hunt, how often he hunts and who might hunt in his place. This research uncovered at least eight specific locations to reconnoiter, and a time of hunt to be six hours between each, with a report of two other creatures who may prowl in Loque’s absence.

After several hunts spanning more than 9 days and nary a sighting, of a corpse or live specimen, I was told by a source I trusted, a Death Knight, Toriara by name, that Loque had been sighted and killed. I despaired that I would never call this fine animal friend and share with him nature’s bounty. I nonetheless returned to the hunt, in case my source was deceived in some fashion or other.

Two or three more days passed without a sighting of hide or hair of mighty ‘Nahak. News came of another creature of grand stature, wreaking havoc in the areas Loque was known to run. Another trusted friend, Annitha, a paladin of some renown and much respected, reported to me the demise of the larger than life tyrannosaur, King Krush. My calculations, which may have involved a small bit of aged whiskey, revealed if Loque still lived, might he come to hunt in a few hours and I resolved to be on hand to request his indulgence to assist me in freeing the land from the dominance of the Lich King.

My effort began at the top of the hour. After three circuits of my designated route I was about to call it a day in favor of a cool cup of aged barley and grain, distilled and set to age to a fine taste. My finely tuned senses began pinging with excitement however. If not Loque’Nahak, then something equally extraordinary was near, not far from the camp Hemet had set up in the Basin.

Turning this way and that, in hopes of spotting the beast that had set off my internal radar, lo’ and behold Loque was there. I dropped from my airborne steed only to be beset by an insignificant cat and longneck grazer. After dispatching both with the assistance of a recently befriended bird of noble color and deed, I asked the avian warrior to return to her home, which she did with no complaint. I suspect she had better prospects than some smelly Tauren half gone in barley and rye.

I crept towards Loque, intent on setting a calming trap, which would allow for a more civilized discourse with the huge beast, but set the thing to far away. After recognizing my error with trap placement and deciding to make my proposal anyway, discovered my ability to converse with animals of any nature suddenly gone completely from my head. While distracted remembering the spell that would allow me to speak with Loque, I startled another cat into attacking me. Will this nightmare not end? Loque is here! I am here. Will the Gods not smile upon me and allow me to converse with nature at its finest?

Low on health from fighting the lower beasts of this area and finally clearing the irritating animals, I remember the spell and begin my request to the white skinned mate of Har’koa. He is irritated to be disturbed and I am unable to calm his ire with a calming trap for fear of breaking the spell of communication. Another hunter happens along, known to have been seeking an opportunity such as I am currently enjoying. He attacks Loque without identifying me. Thankfully we have held some discourse on our efforts over the past few days and he recognizes me and belays his attack. I have yet to recognize him and fear he will break my spell with an ill timed shot or just wait for me to fall victim to Loque’s exasperation and convince the regal beast to fall in with him instead of me.

My excitement at having found Loque and my fear at losing him was only slightly balanced by the calming effect of the spirits I had imbibed while calculating the likely time of Loque’s appearance. Even with the liquid fortitude my body shook with the effort of maintaining the spell of communication. My strength was waning, and while fully expecting the by-standing hunter to allow me to fall, much to my astonishment, he laid a calming trap at the feet of ‘Nahak and allowed me to complete my request of the King of beasts! I am here to tell that without Mahakana’s timely intervention and assistance Loque’Nahak would have certainly rejected me out of hand as unworthy. The mate of Har’koa must have sensed something in me (maybe he likes whiskey as well) and agreed to accompany me in further adventures.

I will seek both his and Mahakana’s approval as time continues, knowing the debt I owe both.

First post to the Petopia Forums even though I have visited the site off and on for quite some time, seeking information about various hunter pets. In case anyone is interested in the time value of this tame story it was posted here a few days after the tame.

Haha, I always love stories of taming Loque. I sympathize for messing up on your trapping, i did the exact same thing.

Congrats on your tame! :3 What did you name him, have you decided?

I named him after the hunter that helped me tame him. You can check out my pets and their names here.
