Looking forward and looking back...

Unread post by Epicfail »

We look at the new expansion being laid out before us and it geeks us out to see all the new additions to the game. With everything changing, its sometimes fun to look back over old trailers and previews for the game that showed us just how much potential this game had for change. To look back on them now really puts into perspective how much the game has changed over time and how much it will change in the future.

WAAAAY back when... the classic trailer. This is what we munched on before it was EVER conceivable to name it "vanilla" or "classic". This was it. People were playing DAOC, CoH, EQ and most everyone said "yeah, I'm just playing this till WoW". I literally have 10 vids on my HD at home of old "classic" wow previews. We ate this stuff up.

Look at this early version TBC trailer. Some of those concepts look really familiar. Some don't. This one doesn't even have the draenai in it. They were the "ZOMG BLUEBERRIES FROM SPACE" surprise that hit us a short time before Beta.

The wrath trailer was a BIG step up. It told a story as much as it showed the preview of the game, just like Cata's. Notice the albino drakes in Utgarde keep instead of protodrakes? How about the "new dances" promise? Its funny how so many things are forgotten along the way when a new expansion comes out.

They've brought this world a good ways now. We've gone from a good base game that had some cool ideas in it to a world far more polished, far richer in story and lore and... c'mon.. the worgon sure have come a long way here from that first preview! I just thought people, especially the new folks that haven't been with us long, might like a little history lesson. ;)
I don't really feel like this is so much the "Post-Modern" era as much as its the "Pre-Zombie-Apocalpse" era. I consider myself more of a forward thinking guy and an era that just won't die is just as feasible as a coming era, where the dead come back.

Whoa those first two trailers really take me back. Once I found out about WoW I remember watching them at least once a day while I waited on my copy of the game to come in the mail.
I was addicted to those two trailers and the official site before I even had the game and a toon to play.. lol xD
