Rare #10: Karkin

Look what I happened to find while exploring up at Fireplume Peak: new rare called 'Karkin'. He's one of the gem-colored crabs, and I've yet to figure out how to get to him. He's waaaaay out on a floating island.

MORE EDITING: Goodness. The bugger has a long range and flings fireballs if you stand too close to the edge to try and get a screenshot. They do about 15k each.

My first post here, though I've been lurking for years! Nice find there! No clue how you get to him, unless you time it Judy right with a thermal draft? I don't know I fell six times just trying to cross over to that side lol.

Edit: ok flinging fireballs... Trap launcher freeze trap, get a draft and jump? Sounds rsky...

Alright. I suspect this is a glitch, and will probably be fixed. But he is tameable from afar. He is not immune to Freeze Traps (yet?), and thanks to his fireball, will not evade if yuo get to the edge and use your Tame Beast. I.E. no problem. I made it out a lot harder than it needed to be.

this is the same island that skarr can be found at. it can be reached by simply jumping from teh island while on a mount butunless they fix the taming from afar theres no reason to

There are actually a few floating islands in the area. Likely that Skarr and Karkin have completely different ones. At least I hope so. Otherwise the chance they share a spawn point is a little too high for my liking.

Also, an easier way to get to the big island than a thermal... for me, at least: run through The Furnace a few times (the fire won't damage your armor from what I can see) toward the island. Eventually when you die, you're closer to the graveyard on the island than on the 'solid' side, and you can just res there. Hard on the durability, but if you're not a good jumper, it might just be the easiest way.

Oooh nice! I love the old world crabs! They amuse me to no end hahaha ever since Rnyo pointed out that they go nomnom.. I.. see nomnom every time they open their mouth.

From what I see.. it looks like he spawns on the rock right across the area of where Kirix is.. the same as Skarr.. so I am thinking.. that they spawn at the same spot and probably share a spawn timer.

Wow, gem cat AND a gem crab?! Did someone recently make a sacrifice to the WoW gods? I love the Old World crab model even more now. Great find, thanks for sharing! Love your note about him throwing fireballs from his little island...sounds like he's a tough little bugger: "No! MY island!". I have quite a bit of camping ahead of me...

Kirix and Dante are guarding both paths up that way! At least Dante doesn't attack people on sight. T_T

Here's a pic of the stepping stones to Skitter's big island, with Skarr/Karkin's little rock being the furthest to the left:



You have to use the rocks at the right to cross over to the island because THERE IS NO FLYING ON THE MOLTEN FRONT. Unfortunately, a few of the rocks drop out sometimes and you fall to your death, unless you've unlocked the druids via quests. The graveyard for the island is off on the right side of it.

I'd like to point out that with these two new additions, we have a new ferocity and tenacity pet in this patch that everyone can tame. <3 Noah, you do spoil us!
