Data Request: Tiny Beasts in the Wild

Unread post by Kalliope »

There have been some reports of undersized beasts in the wild. I'm trying to get a comprehensive list down. :) Thanks for your help!

Italicized pets are possibly intended to be that small.

Eastern Kingdoms:
Arathi Highlands - Highland Thrashers
Blasted Lands - Grunter
Dun Morogh - Ragged Young Wolves
Elwynn Forest - Blackrock Battle Worgs, Young Wolves
Hillsbrad Foothills - Wild Horses (Pinto color only)
Redridge Mountains - Redridge Foxes, Redridge Fox Kits
Tirisfal Glades - Greater Duskbats
Western Plaguelands - Venom Mist Lurkers

Kalimdor:
Darkshore - some Vile Sprays
Durotar - Lo'Shall, Pygmy Surf Crawler, Surf Crawler
Felwood - Ironwood Buzzers
Maraudon - Deep Borers, Stolid Snapjaws
Ragefire Chasm - Earthborers
Tanaris - Duneclaw Broodlings, Duneshore Crabs
Uldum - Amethyst Scarabs, Emerald Scarabs, Sapphire Scarabs, Turquoise Scarabs
Wailing Caverns - Deviate Adders

Outland:
Hellfire Peninsula - Z'kral (non-pet)

Northrend:
Borean Tundra - Sand Turtles
Grizzly Hills - Bloodmoon Worgen
Sholazar Basin - Hardknuckle Foragers

Cataclysm:
Deepholm - Stone Bats
Tol Barad Peninsula - Baradin Foxes
Vashj'ir - Sandskin Pincers

Oversized: Alpine Hares in Dun Morogh seem to have the opposite problem; they're huge! All of the dragonhawk minipets grew as well. Vicious Black Bears in Hillsbrad Foothills seem overly large, but that might be intentional.

Actually, the last time I looked...all the beasts in the Tirisfal area were tiny. I can go back and double check, if you would like.

Are you only after tameables or do you include even the non-tameables?

If the latter, Hillsbrad Foothills has some wild horses - only the Pinto colored are tiny, while the rest are normal.

Thanks! Specifics are good. I'll have to take another look around tomorrow. Just trying to remember what I can offhand.

Non-tamables are good to know as well, thanks!

The Greater Duskbats seem to have been hit the most with this glitch.

These are slightly bigger then the last time I saw them, but still look undersized to me. Decrepit Darkhounds.

(sorry for the big ol' proto butt in the shot.)
Ah, here is a great shot showing them undersized! Cursed Darkhound in this pic.

And of course these bears are waaaaaay underweight. Plagued Bruins.

Vampiric Duskbats seem fairly small as well.

Oh, that reminds me! The Ragged Timber Wolves (or was it Ragged Young Wolves?) in Dun Morogh are the size of the rabbits in the area.

Young Wolves in Elwynn are also rabbit-sized, but considering their name it might be intentional.

"Blackrock Battle Worgs" are a bit shrimpy too:

I think the tiny horses... may be babies of the larger ones. They don't have foal-specific skins, they just shrink the big ones (see DK starting area).

Stone Bats in Deepholm are INCREDIBLY tiny. If I was a tauren male, the bat would literally be handheld in size.

Regarding the darkhounds and a bunch of the lower level beasts, I think they're just small due to their level. :) And Bayne is oversized due to being a rare. :D Some of them, though, really are critter-sized. Those are the ones I'm after. :D

The horses are strange; unlike the ones in Grizzly Hills, the only ones that are pony size that I could find are the pintos. If it was intended, then there would be a variety, most likely. :) But can't be sure...

(Running around checking others!)

The Wild Horses probably are on purpose - I first found them on the Beta and even reported it, thinking it might be a mistake, but they're still tiny.

Yeah, just edited my post to reflect that I think you're right - I have them listed tentatively at the moment. :)

Alpine Songbirds in Mount Hyjal are tiny--they use the White Eagle model, are friendly & untameable anyway, and circle the trees at the Grove of Aessina (I am pre-Molten Front, post-Hyjal phasing-wise if that matters!).

The scarabs that are only visible during a specific phase in the Harrison Jones quest chain seem to have shrunk a lot.

Sapphire Scarab
Amethyst Scarab
Emerald Scarab
Turquoise Scarab

Does anyone have any early screenies of these guys? I'm pretty sure they used to be the size of the other, non-phased scarabs in the zone, but can't be sure.

Is it just my imagination or did most of the foxes become way smaller in the last patch or so? I swear the Tol Barad ones are tiny now.

I think you are right. Just in Redridge today I noticed that the black foxes seem to be full-sized while the brown ones seemed incredibly small. And the Tol Barad ones definitely seem smaller.
