I log into the game, go sit and hope to find Karkin, no such luck. I relax and go afk watching gameplay of "Shadows of the Damned", and I check back to see if I had any whispers. Elffy, the person I helped yesterday, whispered me saying "Deth is up!" and threw me an invite. Lo and behold, it happened; I was face to face with the giant ultraviolet spider. Comically enough, I had semi-metal music playing, completely coincidental due to 300+ songs on winamp. I begin kiting it, using traps and concussive shot. I reach a point where backing up will aggro the yellow bugs, so I take a risk and use nitro boosts to run THROUGH Deth'tilac. I avoided his Deth Strike by a second, and I was shocked. Elffy shows up around this point, and uses her own Deth tame to web and suicide. According to the aggro thing, I have such a high amount of threat that the percent above his health bar was in the seven digits! I was NOT going to lose aggro anytime soon.
We keep up the kiting and suiciding, and suddenly a warlock comes by. Obviously, we give him a proverbial ass kicking and he runs off, and we are back to our task. He did help us, as his felguard taunted and got facerolled instantly.I notice the anti-tame buff drop, and I hit tame. BUT, there is one problem; DETH IS ALMOST IN MELEE RANGE OF ME. I didn't back up, and I had plenty of haste from gear that my tame is about 7.3 seconds. Elffy slows it down just enough that my tame finishes without me dying. We did get one late casualty though; Deth'tilac's Deth Strike hits Deth'tilac for <obscene number>! He killed himself as my tame ended! I saw his corpse, shrunken and with my name right under his. I was about to flip out, but the size assured me of my victory. Below is the screenshot of my amusement of his suicide. We had a good few laughs about it later, too.
I named my Deth "Tsuchigumo", Japanese for "Earth Spider". Deth is about sacrifice to gain; sacrificing your sheep/friends to be able to tame Deth. The story of Tsuchigumo is that of a traveler who comes across a powerful spider demon, literally called "Tsuchigumo", and later on beats the spider within an inch of its life. The spider, now weak and afraid, became the victim; it begged for its life, pleading that traps were its life's calling. The spider offered his servitude for three times of saving the traveler's life, in exchange for not being killed. The traveler accepted the offer, and the spider became his loyal companion. The story continues where the spider saves the traveler from three incredibly dangerous situations by proving his cunning, skills, and honesty, and goes to live far away at the end. It seemed fitting for Deth'tilac, considering his tame is similar to the story, AND he's made of brimstone and lava, parts that make up the earth below.
