An Epic Tale

As very little of you know, I've been hunting for Ban'thalos ever since I first bumped into it. The first time, didn't go so well. (http://forums.wow-petopia.com/viewtopic ... 34&t=13522)

Between then and now I ran into it again and again, including once last night. All of those times, it was killed right in front of me by a small group. And after those times, I would go on about my business and run into another rare to make up for it, only to see it get killed as well. (Talk about kicking a man while he's down, huh?) Today in the midst of my camp I decided to give up, to take a break from Ban'thalos. Maybe just find another rare. But first, I had to clear my cache of course. So I did and logged back on and checked the path for either one of the two new Spirit Beasts that share the same path. None were there so I went over to the Sanctuary to pick up my dailies. And as I flew in NPCScan launches off. I can't believe it, Ban'thalos! I go in to tame it on a tree, however, it didn't seem to fly close enough for whatever reason on 2 of it's turns. I figure something must be wrong and try plan two.

I flew up close to it and fired an Arcane Shot to it and right before landing to my death, Disengaged, and flew back a bit and landed with full health. It goes off moonbeaming me, like usual, but then something weird happens. In the midst of channelling it, it starts it all over again, killing me. My heart sank, it's bugged. I try again and again constantly running into it doing the previous bug or just being an "Invalid Target". I see other hunters try to tame it as well via a parachute but the cast bug kills them as well! Other people try to kill it after a failed attempt but they just die as well. It seems hopeless.

I call out to General asking if anyone would be willing to help, hoping for something. And a guildie asked what I needed. I told him I was still trying to tame Ban'thalos (~15-20 minutes later) but he was bugged. They said they would be there right away on their Priest. I wait for my now 2 min Ress Timer and the guild is getting a bit tired of hearing "No so close!" "Not again!" "Wew! Another chance, the pally failed to kill him!" I ress and my friend lands right next to me and heals me up. I go over a plan, pop a renew on me and bubble me once I land so that the bugged spell wouldn't be as lethal. The rush is great and we either can't get a bubble off or they can't rush over to me quick enough. After a few failed attempts I look up and see a Hunter taming it. Of course the bugged spell got it and she too died.

"Lets try it again." I go up, hit it, land perfectly, get renewed and bubbled, and it goes in the trap! But hits me a second before it's frozen, and I die. Damn, what can we do? I wait for the timer and see something interesting. Ban'thalos is.. attacking my friend. And she's living! "GO TERI GO YOU SEXY BEAST!" She's keeping it distracted, all is going well! I rezz, heal up, a bit, and pop a trap. Right as I start taming, it happens. A group of people have been getting together, both Horde and Alliance, to kill any of the new Rare's. Spiders, Spirit Beasts, and all. They rush in. My heart sinks and I shout "Please, stop!" Then suddenly, I see more shout to stop. All around me there's a group of people who have been observing me trying to tame Ban'thalos. They all shout and beg for them to stop. Mages are Polymorphing to heal it and people are trying to taunt it away. It was great to watch. Another Hunter lands next to me, and spams tame efforts during the attack. I look back at the group and am shocked. They're all dead besides the Prot Pally! And with 27% life left! It's bugged ability goes off again and kills it. Everyone cheers and I quickly start taming it, hoping it won't try it's ability again since it just did it. Half way through my chest in pounding, what a rush! I'm almost there.. cmon!

*POW* Oh no! It's starting it's ability again! *POW* A person pops a bubble on me, my dead friend looking on. It bugs and begins casting it's ability from the start. *POW* "C'mon!" I thought, we're so close! Then something happens, it.. stops. And is frozen! There it is, in a freezing trap. But, how? What's going on? Is a Hunter trying to tame it? It breaks out of the trap and whacks me with an Auto Attack. Then not even a second later, it's mine. I cheer and cheer shouting to the guild I got it I got it, constantly thanking my friend. I look on at the group of people and see the Hunter who trapped it before. He whistles to the air and a tamed Ban'thalos comes out and he Congratulates me. The group /cheers, /bows, and /claps. My friend ressing and healing me up to full health and cheering as well. General chat says GG and the group of people who tried to kill it ress and fly away.

The guild asks what it does and my friend says it flies. I try to explain to them my ordeal and why it meant to much to me, but we just shared a laugh and they suggested how great it would be if you could tame a rare pet that lets you mount it. I just look at my precious and smile. The time it took to tame it, from when I first saw it after clearing my cache to finally taming it, took half an hour, more or less. The day before I tamed it I helped two Hunters get two pets. And just yesterday I helped someone get Terrorpene and helped a group with the "Four Fiery Lords" by having my Beetle tank them. However, I ended up killing a Madexx in Uldum when in my attempts to find it a home, another said they were coming to kill it to keep pets rare. So right before they started killing it I tagged it and killed it so they couldn't get the benefit of ruining another Hunter's fun. Ever since that kill I've bumped into random bits of bad luck. So I guess some unfortunate things can happen to people who try to "keep rare pets rare". It sure did take me sometime to redeem myself =P

WOW! That is epic. Mine wasn't near as awesome as that. I only had two allies camping it with me, they both ended up falling off the tree when he spawned, and Banny landed in their traps, I somehow broke the trap, but instead of moonfiring me to my death, he just sat there and melee'd me. He hits like a wet napkin, so I tamed him fairly easily. I felt kinda bad for the allies, who HAD technically, spotted him first, but I love my Mystryl. I named her Mystryl because...it just seems to fit. She was an odd tame, but well worth it.

It wasn't near as epic, tho. I loved reading about your awesome tame. May more rares come to you in the future!
