Do you feel it is wrong to kill a rare?

Unread post by Sarantha »

When no hunter at all wants it or even responds to you asking the question?

I'm only asking this because I was flying around Sholaza, looking for Aotona (still eludes me to this day) and I saw Loque. No hunters in Sholazar. No one on in guild. I asked a few people in general if they knew anyone who wanted her, but still no bites. I didn't kill her, just left her to prowl around, but someone was bound to come along and pop her in the head sooner or later.

My question, would it be wrong for me to kill a rare if NO ONE AT ALL seems to want it and you know someone else is going to come along and kill it?

(I asked on both factions, since I have toons on both factions, btw)

I don't think it's wrong. Especially for NR rares, as they almost all drop okay loot, and give credit towards an achievement. If anything, killing the rare will help people with spawn timers once they finally do log in/are looking.

SO, no, I do not think it's wrong in the slightest.

Nothing wrong with it at all. You've asked around and have gotten no bites. If no ones interested in it, go ahead and kill it. As Gimlion said, NR rares do give credit toward an achievement (Except for Skoll, Arcturis and Gondria) and they do drop loot.

Definitely not for any of the older rares that give experience and/or loot. When I'm levelling an alt I always go out of my way to check if zone rares are up since the xp boost is so significant, it's definitely worth the time to kill them.

For some of the high profile Northrend rares I'll usually check around first, but I have no qualms killing them either. The only ones I wouldn't bother touching are the new rares that don't give anything, those I'll assuredly leave for a hunter.

Awesome. I'll kill Loque next time if no one wants her, since I haven't got that achievement yet. But I feel like a dbag killing a rare spirit beast, but then...if no one else even responds...its not my fault, really. And I can sell the loot I get off her for a pretty good price (NR loot still sells nicely for some reason on my server).

I wouldn't kill a unique rare, unless I needed it for an achievement. Plenty of other ways in game to get gold.

I certainly don't mean for the gold. I mean simply to reset the timer if no one wants/needs it and/or for an achievement. Some dipwad would likely come along at 3am and kill it and no one would know. I'm normally on at peak hours, so I can usually tell people when it died, so they know to let their hunter friends know when it will spawn next when they log on. 25g is nothing. I've paid 2k for a pet once (it was a tip for warlock who helped me tame Deth'tilac. he didnt want it, but I insisted. gold is so easy to make).

I don't think it's wrong if you can't find anyone to come tame it, but I personally wouldn't do it.

I'd rather leave it up to chance that someone could come along and either kill it or tame it, as opposed to kill it myself and another hunter find its dead body 10 minutes later. D:

Although thinking about it, if no one wants it then, it could be a good idea to reset the timer so someone can tame it next time, but I still don't think I'd do it. I'd feel especially guilty killing something like Loque or Sambas. ._.

At any level earlier than 85, I don't think it's wrong to kill a common-skinned tamable rare, regardless of whether a hunter in the zone wants it or not. Extra XP is extra XP. I also don't think it's wrong to kill even a unique-skinned tamable rare even at 85, assuming no hunter in the zone wants it or you need it for an achievement. That applies to Cata rares, too. However, at the moment, I think it's wrong to kill any of the 4.2 rares, common-skinned or otherwise, simply because there's always a hunter who's interested in taming. Once the fuss has died down a bit, then they'll fall under my regular policy with the rest of the bunch.

I absolutely feel it is wrong to kill ANY 4.2 rares unless it is by accident (IE Solix energy running out), but the none 4.2 rares should be fair game as long as no one is actively wanting them.

Even though Krush, Loque, Aotona are tied to acheivments i personally wouldnt kill them because there may be people on the opposite faction or ones who are just logging in to do their rounds and happened to have done so after the advertizement.

Yes i do kill acheivment tameable rares from Outlands, no i do not kill acheivment tameable rares (Terrorspinner being the only exception) from Northrend, yes i do kill tameable rares from Azeroth BUT many of them get exceptions such as Mist Howler, Snarler, Death Howl, Olm the Wise, and Rak'shiri. No i do not kill any tameable rares from Cata, if it dies, its because its mechanic makes it very touchy (Solix... he died while i was taming cause he sat in my ice trap and lost all his energy).

The idea of killing a tameable rare that is unique and desired is akward with me, i do and dont mind it when i hear/see it, but there are people who want acheivments and so long as people are given fair warning and a chance to tame if they want it then its, to the population as a whole, considered -accepted-.

Eeeh, I'd say yes to Cata rares because they DO drop a grey to the effect of 'dude this wanted to be a hunter pet :(' but while I love the Northrend rares? They are a valid achievement thingy.

Like many others said - Maybe I'd kill Loque/Aotona/Krush if noone wanted them and I would still need them for achievement, but even then I would feel guilty - don't see anything wrong with it though. However killing the cata rares is totally pointless and bad in my opinion, I wouldn't kill any of the cata rares that only drop a tear.

It's situational. If it's one of the northrend rares, and you want the achievement, if you can't find a taker, go for it and pass along the ToD.

If it's one of the cata rares, hell no, leave em alone/try to find em a home. The 25g for the tear is so not worth screwing a hunter out of a pet in my opinion.

I really mean ANY rare. The poll was black and white for a reason. Its yes or no. Either its okay if no one wants it or its not. Cata rare or not.

If I am in general for 2 hours saying Skarr is up and no one on either side wants him, I will kill him at least only to reset the timer. It is pointless not to. Sure, someone might come on an hour later and want it, but how is the current hunter/mage/DK whatever supposed to be able to predict log on times? We can't, so yes, I will kill any rare as long as I am completely and utterly sure no one at all wants it.

Sometimes while rested (if you're leveling up) killing that rare will net you about 2-3 quests worth of EXP. Plus he drops a blue, some cloth, and ~20g. For any spirit beast though I just have problems with killing them since I find them pretty.

Although in my quest for TLPD I did give Skoll a "nap" when he spawned at the frozen lake (after no one wanted him) since I am a believer in the (only 3-5 rares up at a time in Northrend) to try and "force" either Vyra or TLPD to spawn. TLPD did spawn about 30 minutes later but thats offtopic somewhat.

If nobody wants it, and you're sure you've asked around, then yeah, it's fine. If nobody wants it, nobody will really care anyways, yes? Of course with Cata rares it's different since all they drop is a tear, but for Northrend rares I don't see the problem with it.

Although, I personally could never kill a rare myself >.>
