NPCscan & TLPD Questions

Unread post by Flyra »

(Sorry if this is in the wrong section, didn't know where to put it)
I've recently started to look for the TLPD and I was wondering where is the best place I can download NPCscan and npctracker (it shows you the path to take). I also wasn't sure how to download them both and clear the cache. Oh, and does it lag the game or cause any viruses/bugs?

I also heard that after an update (every wednesday) some rare mounts take 72 hours to spawn, so would the TLPD be more likely to appear at the weekend or is his spawn times completely random? I barely know anything about this mount apart from his many flight paths.
Thanks :)

I use curse client it's a handy thing and give you a sign when there is an update

you can download that all at www.curse.com

it's really handy and already been working very well all day

Blizzard support actually goes against using curse client, they claim a lot of people who get hacked use it. -shrug-

Hello,
welcome to the TLPD hunting club :D

Apart from npcscan (on the curse website, it explains how to delete the cache), you can also download silverdragon, which does the same but has additional tracking methods (nameplate etc).

Then, I'm probably not the first one to direct you to Ponderance and his wealth of information on the website. Read through it, and you'll feel like an expert :-)

http://tlpdresource.com/

Then, during the boring wait, you can rummage through the forums;

http://board.tlpdresource.com/viewforum.php?f=3

And also, a lot of folks here have journals where they document their camp.

Finally, there is no best time to start camping time-lost. The spawntime in Northrend is different from Cataclysm, and he's not a world rare, so the 72hr doesn't apply.

Here is more info on that:
It can in fact spawn in the place of Vyragosa at any time Vyragosa can spawn, even if it's the same day. It has been observed to spawn 9 hours apart. Not the week+ between I previously though and have seen reported. However, it can also be weeks between spawns. Thus I assume, it being random, it could actually spawn two spawns in a row. And on the other side, could spawn months inbetween in extreme cases. I mean, ask people who have ran old strat 600+ times to get rivendare's deathcharger where others get it first drop just happening to be in there. a 'chance' can be a bitch.

After Time-Lost or Vyragosa is killed, it USED TO BE the MINIMUM time before next spawn was 6 hours, with no clear maximum. We had seen 30+ various times. Now, post-shattering, the lowest proven time was at/under an hour. (based on a verified activity stream showing a looted time-forwarded talisman and a helm from vyraone hour apart. The claimed distance was 45 minutes between.) However, the lowest I have seen between so far personally is 4 hours.

Good luck!!

I hadn't heard it before either untill my boyfriend got hacked, the blizzard CSR on the phone told him that using the client opens him up to a lot of keyloggers and whatnot. TBH I don't know if I believe that but the CSR seemed convinced that the link is more with the auto update option than with the client overall and just suggested to uninstall it to prevent any issues period.

Auto updates apparently can get pushed through before curse has a chance to scour the mod updates for bug/hacks/keyloggers all that good stuff. So it leaves you open...I had curse client for ages and I had the auto updates turned OFF and never got hacked. (But I had an auth token when my BF got hacked, he didn't...got one after that though)

I did get my guild wars account hacked one day after curse client started acting funny so I uninstalled it out of spite after that.

Only addon that has ever attempted to infect me was Gatherer (but some people use it fine but get the plague from other addons that i myself use fine) but ive never had a problem since i started using addons from curse back in mid TBC (long before authenticators and i was running on scan only anti-virus), but im very careful with my new baby ($800 computer, terrabyte memory, 4gig ram.. lol.......) so my stepdad bought norton 360 to install so nothing happened to the comp, with us being paranoid of losing it.

WoW was flagged by my old anti-virus as being filled with viruses and info-hackers on my old computer which could be true but its up to you if you want addons. If you dont want the chance of getting a virus dont get an addon, regardless of where you download em, theres gonna be some risk that comes with it, least, pretty sure.

I use curse cause ive always felt it was the safest compared to random sites that may be pretending to be the creators of 'said addon(s)' that is actually filled with internet bugs, curse to me is a place where the creators can post their addons and where people can download them knowing who the true creators are as well as the way to use it (if theres directions in the description), and also pictures of how it looks (if theres pics)

I would also say that "wow interface" seems to be one of the more reputable sites imo.
