[suggestion] Resolving some pet issues :3

Currently, there are some issues that greatly affect pet classes dps. So here are some suggestion on how to tackle some of the issues. Please bare in mind, as I am a hunter, a lot of the examples I used are Hunter Spells as I am not familiar with DK's, Warlock's and Mage's spells.

What’s wrong with current pet system?
i) Pet running back and forth from target to its Master decreasing valuable dps esp for Pet reliant classes like BM hunter
ii) Pet aren’t intuitive on which target are supposed to be attacked.
iii)Pet having low health upon summoning.

Pet Spell Suggestion; Sense Danger
Learnable by; Hunter’s pets, Warlock’s Minions, Frost Mage’s Water Elementals, Unholy Death Knight’s Ghoul. This Spell can be learned by any pets at level 10(?).
Spell Description:
While in combat, your pet sense any hostile target within 6 yard radius, and marks them with “Your Next” debuff. Your pet will automatically attack targets with the debuff after the latest target has been killed or the buff is canceled from the target.
The debuff would last for 10 seconds and the spell can be auto casted with 4 seconds cd. Casting the spell WILL NOT trigger the pet’s Global CD. The Spell can only be used while the pet/master is in combat and while only in either Assist or Defensive Stance.
The Spell can’t be dispelled by magic but can be cancelled if the target vanish/stealth, become invisible, feign death or is under cc like disorient or frozen. Sense Danger does not cost any resources.

Assist Stance change suggestion;
While using Assist stance, your pet would also attack any target that is either had been attack with a damaging aoe spell or under the effect of damaging spells; dots or aoe.
Eg..
All of the hunter’s target that had been targeted by ‘Multi Shot’ will be attacked by the hunter’s pet .
The hunter’s pet would attack any target that was or is being affected by damaging traps; (explosive, fire, snake)

Pet Health Issue
Upon summoning, or res, your pet would be invulnerable to any damage for 2 seconds.


Hunter only wishful thinking
-Allow pets that can fly lorewise to be able FLY in PVE instances (dungeons and raid). This will resolve a lot of bm damage issues.

I have a special hatred for this behavior, and from the erratic frequency it occurs at (sometimes your pet runs back to you whilst being whacked by the remaining 4 mobs, other times it holds its ground and does what it's supposed to), I'm certain this cannot be intended behavior, and therefore has to be either a bug or just poor design.

But as to the remedy, I think adding a new pet spell and / or pet stance changes would just exacerbate the problem, e.g. if as it appears the pet ran back because (in it's poor addled mind) it failed to register some of the mobs as enemies, then it would never cast the "your next" debuff.

The underlying bug that prevents mobs from (sometimes) making it onto your pet's threat index is what has to be addressed and fixed. I suspect it's some sort of lag sensitive timing issue, but whatever the case, it's broken and needs fixing, and I don't see any sort of halfway workaround that would apply in this case.

I don't think they should be - this, imo, is part of the skill of playing a pet class - players who rely on the AI for target acquisition won't get the same results as those who manage pet target more closely.

Your suggestion on this one (of giving it a 2 second shield) is probably the best way to go - ideally it shouldn't go down at all during a summon, but it may be unavoidable if the summon process is something general that's used by lots of things, where it has to start with a "base value" and then overlay things like hunter STA contribution and such afterward.

Can you clarify some more on this one, in re: bm damage issues?

Flying pets would work on the drakes before Ultraxion or the drakes on Blackthorn.

During Blackthorn, Banthalos was the only pet that can cast Kill Command. When I went in with Skoll I couldn't cast Kill Command. If our pets that fly could fly we wouldn't have an issue with adds being too high.

Yeah devilsaurs can reach him. I though I remembered being able to use it on some of my shorter pets recently but I'll have to go in and check. I just wish flying pets could fly with flying mounts. :P

Somewhat random, but I would love if our flying pets really did fly. They don't have to fly high, but it would be awesome for our eagles and such to be able to actually swoop down on enemies when they use Dive. :D

And I will have to remember to bring my Devilsaur into LFR next time. I had my wolf and it was pretty annoying trying to find out what he could and couldn't reach while in mid-raid.

Bliss and Nykwil (My chimera) have both reached that darn dragon. I SEEM to remember Echo (Banny!) reaching, too, as he's my spirit beast of choice lately.

Exactly! I trio-ed Onyxia and I play BM no matter what. I had Echo with me thinking he could get up higher and wail on Ony since I was the only ranged.

Right, suggestions by the OP :D

I sometimes see my pets attacking all the mob and sometimes not. I have no idea what makes it happen, so I wind up tagging pretty fast these days. Consistency, at least, would help with the frustration about the running back and forth. Not sure I think the pets should choose which to attack next. I just keep watching Wiggles (My first devilsaur) attacking blood beasts when I didn't ask him to back in ICC Saurfang days. He's the whole reason I added a pet attack piece to my serpent sting. :roll: I guess he thought they were yummy? I just can see that happening more often if that was implemented... Just my initial thoughts. Everything else was awesome :D
