R.I.P Sylvester (image heavy etc)

He's in cat Valhalla now feasting with cat Odin.

I found him around 11:40 yesterday I was going to have lunch but I started to wonder where he was I had not seem him all day. I was allways told when a cat is going to pass on they go somewhere quiet and pass on. That was true for Sylvester I found him near the Grapefruit tree he sometimes slept under. He had a good life. we may not of been the best owners as we could not take him to the vet yearly as we could not afford it more so after I started need my surgeries. But he was happy and that is all that matter and he's now resting under the Grapefruit tree.

A few months back I wrote down how I felt about him incase he passed as we all knew he was going to die this year. So here it is:

I've seen him go from buff fighter who's turff was atleast 6 houses wide who would rip your arms up if you touched his belly and would only sleep beside you too a skinny slow man who sleeps most of the day and takes a minute to get up one stair and can't lick his base of his tail but I still love him very much.

Yes he has that yucky old man smell every old person seems to get and you can't pick him up with out fear of him releaveing himself on you (yes he's done that to me! but hey when your old your body does not work as good!) and he can't climb up the couch without help but he's 20 or 19 I cant remmber :/ well we got him a year after we moved back to NZ ( I was born in england) so I was 3 and he was atleast a year and a half and I'm 21 turning 22 this year so yeah nearly 20ish but thats old for a house cat I mean the average life span for a male house cat is 12-14 so he's no spring chicken!

He's a everywhere cat ya now indoor/outdoor what have you. He uses the outside as his loo (He wouldnt know a litter box if you shoved his face in one! He's never used one) and his hunting ground. Mum can remmber seeing him following his mum with his bro into the horse padock behind our house to hunt so he's old school. He was the next door neighbour's pet but him and his bro where left behind when they moved and took his mum so we took them in (totally free of corse!) and he had his balls for atleast nearly 2 years as we could not afford to get em niped off (and bearly affored to get his shots but he got em eventually ) so he was buff and tomish and I'm sure that's why he has allways been angry even after his balls where taken from him. His bro ran away but we think he proberly had a fight with Sylvester over teratory and lost so left :/ I was so gutted as they used to sleep on each other and chase each others tails! I was like 5 at the time so yeah.

But no matter what age he's been he allways acts depending on the season in summer he spends all the time day and night outside only coming inside to for food and pats and in winter he spends all day and night inside only going out to go to the loo or walk his turff rain or shine. That is unless we have to go out and then he gets locked outside  That's why I love him he's not one of those cuddly cats who want to be with you 24/7 I don't really like that and it's a pain when he's in one of those rare moods where he will do that (that or he just wants food )

I remmber him bringing a skink inside one xmas day and it running up the xmas tree! and him grabing a seagull and it lifting him atleast half a meter in the air! another time when we moved to our new house after we let him out of a room so he could get used to his new home he must of fell into the mangroves as he came inside covered in sticky crap smelling mud and we had to shave one side of him! Then he had the fight with a pukeko and lost a big chunk of his nose(it grew back O.o) and that time a hawk chased him but enough of that I think I'll just spam you with pics of him that you may or may not of seen allready! I don't have any of him when he was young on my computer as we did not have a digital camera in the 90's.

Sorry to here about your loss Cows :(

Pets really are a type of glue that holds a home together. You may not know how important they are all the time, you may even cuss them out on occation, but as soon as they have gone... the world just does not seem quite right.

I'm so glad to hear that he had such an amazing life, 20 yrs for a kitten is freaking amazing!

I think this pic is my fav of him though...

Yeah I'm feeling that now. all day today I kept thinking where he was and going "why is the conservatory door shut how will the cat get inside?" and then realising we don't need to keep it open anymore.

It is quite amazing how long he lived! The old bugger was just too stubborn to die he really was.

 Oh that cheered me up! He loved pots. He killed so many herb plants by sitting on them!

I went to my grandparents place today to give them the fresh catfood we had as it would not keep and I had a long pat with Tiddles. He reminds me of Sylvester alot as he's black and white too. It made me really think and as sad as his passing was I think it was for the best. The last week and a half he really went down hill he was pretty skinny allready from his old age ( in some of those photos you can tell that he was slowly looseing bulk) but he lost alot of weight in that week and a bit you could feel all his bones and his back legs would shake when he got up and the look on his face you could tell he was not happy so I think it was for the best for him to pass on.

He is pain free now and I would not want him to keep living they way he was in the week and a bit before his passing anymore than the time he did.

I really do appreciate all your comments they have made me happy :D

I remember when you showed me his photo on my pet thread and thought ''wow who is this gorgeous cat and why does he look like the granddaddy of my kitty?'' In my imagination, he IS the granddaddy of Princess and I will love on her extra special just for you. He lived a long happy life, it seems. 20 years old? Great long life for kitties. *huggles tight*

I lost my childhood cat the weekend after I got my fiance visa to stay in the UK. I had been at the house in the states the week before and she slowly crawled to me, purred at me and drooled on my foot as if to say good bye to me. Stormy was a good friend, as I'm sure Sylvester was. Dammit now I'm crying.

*hug*

He was a fine cat. I love it when they are coloured that exact way. Not all pitch black, but not too much white either. I am sorry for your loss. <3

Oh cow I'm so sorry do hear of your loss. But twenty years is an awesome time he had with you full of love.
I'm afraid when the day will come of my parents' cat to die. She is already about 14 years old and starts to get weaker and a bit silly (like old people get, forget things and such). I will hug her tight next time I visit my parents.

Yeah Sylvester did those things somedays he would just sit face first in a corner . He would beg for food and then follow you half way to his bowl and just stop acting like he had forgotten what he was doing XD I'm sure your cat is a lovely cat!
