For example, according to my sims using pre-raid gear, if I want to increase my dps by 3-5% (depending on the spec) I can simply race change to Orc
The racial discussion is a huge morass, by which I mean that if I wade into it, it's going to dominate all of the discussion in this thread. Suffice to say in this case that we think the world has changed enough that 5% pet damage went from kinda of a big deal to a really big deal, so we reduced it to 2% pet damage. We want Forsaken warlocks to exist.
Let's please try and keep this thread on classes though and not debate EMFH etc.
Looks like lock complaints got Orcs nerfed overall, with hunters taken down in the crossfire.
I dont understand their purposes with racials much anymore.
For a person who chooses a race, and will race change, based on which racials gives them better dps, then they will move from Orc to whichever class sims on top. It will forever be flavor of the month for those who cherish dps above all. if they make it where a dps racial only boosts dps a trivial amount, why have it? there is no flavor in a trivial extra button to click, or especially a passive. these players will never be an undead warlock if undead dont give them better dps over the other races, so this change may move them away from orc, but it isnt moving them any closer toward undead in this sense.
to those who dont primarily choose race based on dps, then the 5% for pets wont matter, they will be an undead warlock anyway. undead warlocks will exist with people who choose their race for non dps reasons. im of the opinion most dont choose race based on dps, but i dont know. I personally choose race based on animations and aesthetics, but i used to chase highest dps racials. i decided animations were more important to me. this change isnt going to create more undead warlocks, its just gonna create more nonorc warlocks.
this isnt going to change anything other than cause those who chose Orc for dps to migrate elsewhere (to whatever is the current highest dps racial). I imagine Pandaren will be popular for its classes thanks to the food buff. it isnt going to create more undead warlocks from the crowd that wants the highest dps racials.
racials shouldnt be OP by any means, but at the same time, they arent going to accomplish this goal with this change. I dont see how they are making that connecting.
It will mean less pressure from peers (such as high-end guilds) to be X race for dps, I think is the point.

About time, it was an unfair advantage and for me, someone who hates Orcs so much they are the only race I have never made a toon in, it's a welcome change.

I wasn't aware they nerfed anything about NE's. What is the change? The only racial we had that was any good only works after we die anyway.
Okay, they changed quickness from increased hit to dodge? I consider that a buff and not a nerf since I never PvP anyway.
It's a nerf for PvE tanking as well. The night elf Quickness racial as it reads now is: Reduces the chance that melee and ranged attackers will hit you by 2%. That is not just a PvP racial by any means. That racial is what makes night elves one of the best choices for tanks (for Alliance and if you like to min/max). Know why? Because that 2% free chance to be missed does not share diminishing returns with dodge and parry. Turning that into 2% dodge for MoP means that it now goes back onto the DR table. It's not terrible, but not nearly as cool as having that third free miss option.

I've never played a Tank, or a healer either, so I wouldn't know about that. Dodge actually makes more sense for the race anyway. I have never really concerned myself with racials and considered them mostly irrelevant at max level. The only "min/maxing" I do is to compare gearing options at femaledwarf.com and I will still play my preferred spec, BM, if it is within 5-6% of the others in the numbers given there. I know I easily can make up that much by my pet still doing his full damage in fights that require a lot of movement by me.
