Oh the heartbreak and anger making (poss large images)

Flying through Ashenvale tonight on my way to Forest Song and I saw a black bear. I about died. I ran over there and sure enough Ursol'lok in the wild. I had NEVER ever seen him in the wild and what's crazier is on every toon I have searched for him for a year to tame him.


I knew I'd have to sacrifice someone to tame him. I put a hunters mark on him then for some reason went to run into Forest Song to stable a pet. I was gone MAYBE 20 seconds and came back to find this


That's right he's dead. A year of searching, gone maybe 20 seconds and someone killed him. I immediately yelled "Whoever killed Ursol'lok with a hunters mark on him is a real a$$hole!! I've been looking for him for a year or more!!" Shocker not a single person replied. No sorry. No nothing. No one asked who marked him and it's not like I was far away or anything. I guess I shouldn't have left him. But I mean come on! Freaking common courtesy.

So now I am back to looking for him and I'm fearful my chances of finding him before Cat are pretty slim and if he'll even be around after that. I am really just heartbroken even though I know I made a tiny mistake of getting maybe 20 seconds away from him. Whoever killed him was high level because it was definitely a quick kill. Cannot believe this. What a loser.

While you have my condolences, Hunters Mark =/= tagged mob. So it really wasn't yours, yes you may have seen it first but until the mob is tagged n bagged, so to speak, he belongs to no one. And it didn't have to be a high level, or if it was it was just after greens, tho I don't see why as none of the items any rare/rare elite drops old word wise are any good.

I would suggest you just tame a normal black bear?

I kinda have to agree with Ryai, hunter's mark doesn't mean the mob is "yours." I'm really sorry though, how heart breaking.

That is a heartbreak. I remember I searched for Old Cliff Jumper forever (over year easy) and I would have been really sad, if I ever saw that.

I know I shouldn't have walked away and I said that. Doesn't mean the whole situation isn't upsetting nor irritating.
Also the only reason I don't just go tame another black bear is it wouldn't be same. It wouldn't be the bear I'd been hunting a year or more and dedicate many late nights and early mornings into trying to find.
Yes I know that he loses that elite status on pixels but not to me.

I know what you mean - I've tamed difficult named mobs instead of the much lower level regular mobs patting around right next to them because damnit, I tamed such-and-such. It's an entirely different thrill.

I was simply reacting to your account that you shouted about the person killing a mob with Hunter's Mark on it. It sounded as though you meant that it made the mob "yours," and sadly it just isn't so.

That doesn't make it any easier to loose a pet you've been chasing for so long. I'm really very, very sorry you lost him.

In my experience, putting a Hunter's Mark on something is akin to saying "I want that" which means someone will go out of there way to try and make sure you do not get it. I find it's best to be quiet about some things you want so as not to draw the attention of others to the object of your desire.

That said, Ursol'ok is not a unique skin, he's the basic black bear appearance so you're not getting anything noticeably unique by taming him. There are also two other rare spawns with the same skin, plus one more named.
