New NPC category: Aberration

Unread post by Wain »

Just noting this out of interest.

It's not often they create a new category of NPC, but "Aberration" has just been added in 5.1 to cover oozes, flesh beasts and tentacle things.

I haven't been very thorough in my checking, but all the ones I've seen have been set accordingly.

I wonder if Sha should belong to the same group, but for now they remain Elementals.

There doesn't seem to be a Hunter "Track Aberration" that I could see yet. I guess there'll be one eventually.

There goes my dream of taming ooze and flesh beast as mutated beast..

I've always wondered why they weren't any 'old god creatures' and 'mutant' category like how we have undead, demon and giant. and now seems have been rolled into one.

in before demi-god or deity category?

Ooooh, that's great! It's always bothered me that they didn't have a category, whether we could track them or not.

Cool! It's good to see them slotted into a category of their own, I always wondered what a 'flesh-beast' actually counted as.

I was woooondering what aberration was all about. My guesses were almost right -- didn't include the sha.
Good that these things finally got a category of their own though. Sure was weird being a nothing!

Yeah, I thought there should be some category for powerful spirit beings (not the undead type), Naaru, demi-gods etc., too.

I'd also like to see plant and tree creatures given their own category instead of being called elementals. To me it always felt like they were forced into that category because they had nothing better.

: 0 finally they have a category!

While there is not a track aberration ability... It doesn't means there will be one... Remember hunters can't track machines. Maybe it will be the same with aberrations?

Well looks like my Class Icons will get another update. Still, poor buggers at least now they're with their own.
My main's a Druid so I of course love critters. That counts for something right? Right?

I actually never understood that.

Out of everything, the smoke and trail of destruction machines leave in their wake would make them the easiest things to track in the world.

My original thought was because ''They are not living things'' that we can't track them, but then we can track undead and elementals.

Then I thought it was probably because, at least back in vanilla/BC, machine-type mobs were kinda rare. Enter Wrath and Cata.

So the only thing I can think now is that it was overlooked by the devs.

they could easily label mechanical creatures and stone creatures as constructs since that would cover both!

I all ways thought it would be cool if they add ''track machine'' as a ability for engineers.
