Originally started by Jorna, Teigan picked up the editor and began playing with pet families sorely needing emotes after Jorna stopped working on it. After a few years Teigan also decided to step away from the addon and, questionably, decided to allow me to continue to manage PetEmote. Apparently I was good at research and coming up with ideas or something

In all seriousness, while I doubt I could fill in either of their shoes I will do my best to keep the addon going and introduce new emotes for our beloved companions!
My sibling, Ethan Centaurai/Ravendwyr, is in charge of the coding and CurseForge side of things.

Current News
I've fallen in and out of love with WoW and ended up neglecting PetEmote with no one to pass it onto, causing it to fall behind. Having gone through a particularly rough year the addon sadly was the last thing on my mind. I have had a small spark of inspiration however, so at the very least this page got some updates. I have a lot to catch up on, including giving Lesser Dragonkin emotes and also rename Cranes to Waterfowl and Toads to Hoppers. I apologise that never got fixed before my hiatus.
The Pet Emote Addon and This Project
What PetEmote Is
PetEmote is an addon originally produced by Jorna and then picked up by Teigan and now myself, and filled out with our ideas and those of the Petopians as a whole.
It produces randomised family-specific text emotes for your hunter pets, mage elementals, warlock demons and death knight minions in an effort to give them some much-needed personality.
It is available on CurseForge and can be updated with the your favourite addon manager.
New emotes will initially be posted here as ZIP files that can be downloaded and extracted into the PetEmote addon folder, and later be baked into the core addon.
DISCLAIMER: If you have used the Editor to create your own custom emotes make sure to back up your customemote files as they will be overwritten and you will lose everything you made. Remember to keep your work safe!Installation Instructions wrote:Download the ZIP file.
Extract the files from the ZIP.
Cut/Copy the extracted files into the PetEmote addon folder (found in World of Warcraft/_retail_/Interface/Addons)
Replace the existing files with the new ones.
Either overwrite the customemote files with your own if it's a core update or you don't care for new emotes, or be prepared to manually re-add yours. There (currently) isn't any way to merge files or copy strings.
If you are careful and know how/are willing to edit the LUA files, however, you can merge them in that way.
What It Does
PetEmote causes random text emotes to appear in the game's chat box. These emotes appear to be coming from your pet and describes an action the pet is "doing" to give them more of a character and adding some further immersion than their idle animations and noises.
Other addon users will see the emote as if it were the pet emoting.
Argorok does a thing.
Players who do not have PetEmote however will see the emote from the player.
Varethyn's pet Dragonhawk Argorok does a thing.
Known Issues
Since the addon utilises the emote function the emote will always start with the player's name followed immediately by a space, making it appear as
Varethyn 's pet Dragonhawk Argorok does a thing.
As it's a core feature of the game there is nothing that can be done for players without the addon, so they'll have to deal with your personal space.
Likewise, the addon cannot transcend boundaries and players from opposite factions will continue to see
Varethyn makes some strange gestures.
What You Can Do
PetEmote doesn't just spit out randomised text and random intervals. You can also input a few commands in-game to customise things even further!
On its own, this will bring up a list of commands you can use. If you follow up with your own message you can hand-tailor a custom emote on the spot./pe
/pe [your message here]
This allows you to turn the randomised timing on or off, so you can keep your pet quiet until a better time or to fill that time with fun hijinks./pe on/off
Forces a randomised emote to display. Maybe you're hoping for a reaction to something, looking to fill in a quiet moment or simply want to hear from your pet because it's taken too long to randomise on its own./pe random
Use these to decide for yourself what gender your pets are! The first version will simply switch your pet's current gender to the opposite of what it currently is. Specifying male or female will set it as such./pe gender
/pe gender male/female
This allows you to set a custom family for your pet. So your bear can instead be a lazy bear, your spirit gryphon can be a stormrook, your dragonhawk can be a majestic beast, and so on./pe family [your preference here]
NOTE: This is purely cosmetic and only viewable to those without PetEmote active. It does not allow your spider to suddenly start acting like a riverbeast, for example.
If you want to create your own emotes, there is a download file for the PetEmote editor at the bottom of this page! It's fairly straightforward to use, but please do ask if you are struggling.
What I Did
I apparently did something right as Teigan passed PetEmote to me to look after. There have been a good many new pet families released since, including the warlock incubus, and with the aid the Petopians I have given (most) of these new families emotes to play around with.
