otherwise, if they made this with the pet only being a unique look, but having essentially the same abilities as another species of pet, I don't see an issue.
A bit of palindromic wisdom:

However, I still like the idea of a pet being tamed like this

that's just it, Blizz will never make a "legendary pet".
they nerfed DK's into the ground, and THAT started out as a "heroic class". Now it's just like any other class.
I doubt that with that philosophy in mind Blizzard would actually go ahead and make an "indispensable" hunter pet, one which would become compulsory if you wish to do anything end-game.
I loved the quest to raise my baby Cloud Serpent. I also loved the horde quest to hatch and raise a raptor mount. So that aspect of it is certainly very appealing.
My only issue is with the potential idea of a "heroic/legendary" quality pet.

I think a legendary pet and a DK don't have the similarity, a pet is just like a weapon which doing damage , instead of making a legendary bow for hunter , maybe can consider for a legendary pet which have some special effect or display aura that will be cool.Sukurachi wrote:Rozzana wrote:Well if it's a legendary pet, it should be stronger than the others. However, bows don't give raid-wide buffs, which hunter pets do. Hunter pets are made to be flexible buffs and debuffs, as well as a flexible 'weapon' and tank for the hunter. It would be a fun general concept, but the idea with hunter pets is that they're not made to have ones 'better than others'. They're made to be 'the right tool for the right job'.erictks wrote:I think a legendary pet and a DK don't have the similarity, a pet is just like a weapon which doing damage , instead of making a legendary bow for hunter , maybe can consider for a legendary pet which have some special effect or display aura that will be cool.

I really don't see them ever adding a pet that is more "powerful" than any other pet. They've already gone out of their way to ensure that all pets are pretty much even. The reason is that as soon as one pet is more powerful than any others then it becomes obligatory. Soon hunters are only allowed to use that one pet in raids and all we ever see is that one pet. Back in WotLK there was only a couple of pets that hunters were allowed to bring to raids and it was very boring.

BM was only allowed to use Devilsaurs and MM/SV was only allowed to use Wolves. It sucked.Wain wrote:A pet that just looks cool would be fine. They've done that many times with spirit beasts and other really unusual pets.

Oh And if you wanted to do anything tank-related, a gorilla was basically the only option. I say 'basically' because I bucked the system with Panzer.

Re: Raise hunter pet from rare or legendary eggs
however, I can easily see it getting boring. Blizz would have to add a large number of body shapes/types/species, or else anyone who'd done the quest line would have the same pet as everyone else who's done it.
I can see how implementing this would be a long-term plan.

I'd like this kind of idea, but it'd be a shame if I was limited to a Wyvern. I'd quite like a gryphon to call down and wreck havoc upon my enemies!pop wrote:Horde gets Wyvern egg and Alliance gets Gryphon's !

Both are iconic to each faction and I hate the idea of Wyvern being used by Alliance while the Horde uses Gryphon.Kayro wrote:I'd like this kind of idea, but it'd be a shame if I was limited to a Wyvern. Re: Raise hunter pet from rare or legendary eggs
You could pick which egg you got, and this which creature you got form each one perhaps? I prefer the Gryphon, and I'm horde. I don't think it should be limited to faction, but if they did add it I doubt if be getting a gryphon to call my ownpop wrote:Both are iconic to each faction and I hate the idea of Wyvern being used by Alliance while the Horde uses Gryphon.Kayro wrote:I'd like this kind of idea, but it'd be a shame if I was limited to a Wyvern. Re: Raise hunter pet from rare or legendary eggs
That's true, and if they ever do use this idea, they'll follow the guideline of the factions, I'd rather my hunter called down a gryphon form the skies. Perhaps that's what it could be? Not an actual pet, but some sort of guardian which you could summon. So if you'd like, it could be a gryphon that comes down. I'm sure many horde players would like a gryphon and many alliance players would prefer to summon a Wyvern.pop wrote:Discounting Skeletal Gryphons which are not true living Gryphons, both Gryphons and Wyverns are the last iconic mounts for each faction as neither can be ridden by the opposing faction. They are the last bastion from homogenization of Warcraft.
