Deep down in the darkest caves the enchanted city of Menzoberranzan
So beautiful yet so deadly full of viles things
A venus fly trap luring in its prey
Here he was born into the clutches of evil
A dark goddess ruling their lives she is evil in its rawest most primal form
Born a boy not cherished as a girl
Abused and beaten - dark bruises still showing on ebony skin
Thoughts so pure and innocent unlike his kin
Only one truely loves him though he does not know
Zaknafien, father to oblivious and naive son
Matron Malice his mother - he is her tool of war
Used for petty fights and rivalries - a trophy to show off for his skills
He has betrayed and forsaken the goddess Lloth
A spider queen - the black widow of this sunless place
The others follow numbly - never questioning simply obeying
The choice is made he must forsake his people he is not one of them
And so he runs, Zaknafien's last breathe dying in his chest
The son he has loved is now free and so he dies happily
Giving himself so Drizzt may be free of these vile harpies he calls family
The dagger cuts deep but he does not cry out
He will give them no satisfaction of pleading cries
Death and outrage hand in hand with slaughter and pain
Blood stains ebony hands
Long white locks drenched with sweat
And he kills doing what he knows has to be done - regret and sorrow behind every strike
And then he runs - the light to his salvation shining like a beacon of hope beckoning him to it
A hard path he has overcome darkness consumes no more as he steps into the light
The sun burns his skin but he still smiles though sadness sits upon his lips
Zaknafien... the whisper escapes soft as the wind
The sun shines on his face bathing him in a warm golden glow - painful yet refreshing
His eyes sting as the sun shines into them but still they remain open
Beautiful and wet glistening with tears he will not shed
Hardships are still to come, branded with the dreadful word "Drow"
Prejudice and hate will stare him down
He will pay for the sins and evil ways of his people
Lavender eyes shining as they hide the pain
