Re: The War Within Beta - Beasts Thread
Honestly, though, I think that flaunting them just increases the chances of them being removed. That is part of the reason that the foal was removed. Yes, so many got it, but also so many kept showing it off.
Re: The War Within Beta - Beasts Thread
Is that a reason Blizzard devs themselves gave, or supposition? Taking away something hunters loved and liked using because you don't like your models being blown up is a... I'll temper my words and say "short-sighted" reason that just hurt and angered their own community. I can name 3 people who got them and quit and have not come back because of how Blizzard handled the foals.

Re: The War Within Beta - Beasts Thread
Supposition, based off of what has happened in the past. When only a handful of people have gotten an unintentional pet, like the fire elemental, the baby direhorn, the Dragon Isles puppy, etc., they usually end up keeping them. Then you have things like the Dreamway Puppy and the Foal where a lot of people got it and were showing it off, they ended up being removed. You have exceptions, of course, like the baby mammoths, but those are just the exceptions. There does seem to generally be a pattern in what we keep and what we don't.Dialga wrote: ↑Tue Aug 27, 2024 5:40 pmIs that a reason Blizzard devs themselves gave, or supposition? Re: The War Within Beta - Beasts Thread
I don't think it has to do with showing off, I think it has to do with how many people got it, which is what's causing this recent schism in the hunter community. For example, you and a handful of others knew about the Murkfur Pup and tamed it before the patch launch, but did not inform any of the other hunters in the community about it at large, causing a substantial portion to miss out. I understand your reasoning for doing so. Blizzard was well aware of it, Wain made a Twitter post about it, but they remained not because of showing off, but because only a handful of people got it.Valnaaros wrote: ↑Tue Aug 27, 2024 6:27 pmSupposition, based off of what has happened in the past. Which leads me to what some people have been saying (some angrier than others) but the result is that there's a tear in the community because of it. Gone are the days where hunters share their findings, and collaborate together, because they are punished for doing so. It breeds resentment from not only people who missed out because others hid their findings, but people who get their findings taken away if the community as a whole jumps on it. It's a lose/lose so long as Blizzard punishes things for being popular instead of just flicking a switch on or off to make something tameable and leaving it as-is.
Re: The War Within Beta - Beasts Thread
It's tiring having this same emotional discussion every time an unintended tame appears and is later removed. The things weren't intended to make it to live. Some people got them before they were hotfixed. The pets haven't been removed from anyone who managed to get them at this point (I didn't tame either) and hopefully they won't be. If they are deleted, it's okay to be frustrated about that. More things like this will happen in the future and there'll be more opportunities to obtain unintended things. If some hunters having something unintended before it was removed is causing a rift with those that don't in certain communities then I'd say that's an indicator of how toxic, or at least highly strung, those communities are. And I can guess which.
Keep the discussion civil and don't refer to community members here as "dumb".DannyGreen wrote: ↑Tue Aug 27, 2024 5:06 pm Worrying about looking silly full sized in dumb anyway considering how many really low poly models are still tameable. You can tame the giraffe and that thing's got less polygons than a single strangely detailed foot of xal'atath

Re: The War Within Beta - Beasts Thread
Update on the mole changes: I'll hopefully have them done in an hour. It appears there are appearance deletions as well as additions from individual NPCs. I'm yet to confirm if this results in any loss of looks, but I hope not. I think for the most part they were looks used by multiple moles.
There seems to also be a couple of additions to glowmites/candleflies, at least one of which is a new look combo. I'm wondering what other late-Beta look additions there might be. The updates and revisions never end

Didn't know if you wanted to add him yet, but there's also Aradan who's a Spirit Beast - don't know how to tame him yet though as he's indicated to be a challenge tame.Wain wrote: ↑Tue Aug 27, 2024 11:51 pm Update on the mole changes: I'll hopefully have them done in an hour. Re: The War Within Beta - Beasts Thread
Additional small tweak - someone on the Secret Finders disc pointed out all the underwater eels are flagged with a green checkmark on Petopia, but only the Sunken River Eel is tameable.Wain wrote: ↑Tue Aug 27, 2024 11:51 pm Update on the mole changes: I'll hopefully have them done in an hour. Crap, thanks for pointing that out! It must have been an error when I was updating them the other day. I'll fix when I'm doing the moles.Dialga wrote: ↑Wed Aug 28, 2024 12:27 am

Thanks for reminding me - I need to add him, too. I kept putting him in the too-hard basket during Beta, because I had way too much to get done and nobody seemed to solve his riddle and tested him out. I should get him added, at least

Re: The War Within Beta - Beasts Thread
Here's how to tame Aradan: throw an entire Earthen at him. Not just a clump of beard hair, but a full Earthen. Surely that'll work!
Joke aside, Aradan's mystery is quite the thing. Either it's too obscure to figure out just yet, or it's probably not implemented. Wouldn't be the first time something intended wasn't implemented after all.

Re: The War Within Beta - Beasts Thread
The eels thing reminds me:
I've now added the back-catalogue of untameable sea slugs to our database and would like to do the same for eels. I added a few but there are a lot and can't justify prioritising it over other changes. SO if anyone feels like a break and is interested in gathering data on some to help out it would be much appreciated If not, I'll get around to it sooner or later. It's NOT a high, or even medium, priority

Re: The War Within Beta - Beasts Thread
I was wrong about additional candlefly looks - the looks are in the display database but they don't show up in game so I suspect they might have been given frequencies of zero.
But it turns out the mole looks changes total 34 new look combos! And here they all are (click on image to go to the look page - there are too many to detail each individually by NPC):
I'm certainly not complaining, but it would be nice to have a few more green ones. They're quite underrepresented. But, something for future zones

What data do you need? Find all the different eels that are in the game?Wain wrote: ↑Wed Aug 28, 2024 12:44 am The eels thing reminds me:

Knowing Blizz, it's something silly like an Earthen Hunter has to summon him.WerebearGuy wrote: ↑Wed Aug 28, 2024 12:38 am Here's how to tame Aradan: throw an entire Earthen at him. Not just a clump of beard hair, but a full Earthen. Surely that'll work!

Re: The War Within Beta - Beasts Thread
DannyGreen and Fangzzs: Thanks! That's wonderful!
Sorry, I only got back to check messages now or I would have added that there's a full Wowhead list here that would have helped you: https://www.wowhead.com/npcs/beasts?fil ... 7871#0+7+9
But that's great for now. I was going to double-check levels and subzone locations but decided that's overkill for now, considering none are tameable. If they ever become tameable I can add more info when we re-check them.
Thanks again!

New poster here....couldn't help but notice this fella pops up sometimes in Hallowfall for Dire Beast or the Dire Command talent. If we get to tame one of these magnificent things, I will probably explode. If not, Blizz....please don't tease me like this.

Re: The War Within Beta - Beasts Thread
I agree it's a huge shame that Deepflayers aren't tameable, and they could have meant we got at least one new family in this expansion. If not in their own family then I was a fan of lumping them with bats and giving that family a newer, broader name. Although 4-limbed (I guess 6 limbs, with wings!), they have a lot in common with bats. At least, from memory they use echolocation, but maybe I'm remembering that wrong.notasmokealarm wrote: ↑Wed Aug 28, 2024 8:54 pm https://imgur.com/5ybzT9u
