New Taming Mechanic? (11.0.5 PTR spoilers)
https://www.wowhead.com/news/old-versio ... 0-5-346600
Thoughts on this? Wowhead thinks it's related to the return of old models, but there's nothing in the text to infer that as I read it, so I'm curious what you guys think!
Perhaps now we can use Exotics in other specs? Or maybe this is related to unintended pets, like the return of the slime or Grimtotem? Or maybe we can tame critters now?
Guess we'll find out!

I don’t think that their conclusion is correct. There are no new npcs that use the old models, at least as far as we can see, and the hyena and corpse bird are npcs that use the new models.

This feature I guess will be made so we can also tame older versions of what we have. I also want to enjoy older models we never had on our side like old horses, kodos, and rams. There’s something I love about older horses that the new ones don’t have
Plus if you go check the comments on wowhead, clueless people are going nuts

That’s assuming that it is correct. Wowhead is only going off of a single thing. Unless they know more than the general playerbase, it is too early to say whether that is what’s going to happen or not.worgpower wrote: ↑Sat Sep 14, 2024 8:55 pm This feature I guess will be made so we can also tame older versions of what we have. I just hope we get all of the replaced beasts, along with those that have been replaced before being made tameable
- old diemetradons, a old version was used in the memories event for prepatch, but it had a spectral effect
- old rams, they looked super scruffy before, the new ones look groomed, the old rams also had a long tail which I liked
- old horses, they looked much simpler, they are not as muscular as new horses and look more like a real horse
- old kodo, the old furry kodo specifically, it looked very old and ancient, the new one made it look much younger
But more importantly, I’m going to be more than happy to put an old white gorilla, and old red hyena, and an old white wind serpent in my stables

As long as they dont touch ANYTHING in my stable, I'm good with W/E.
Siggy under construction!

I don’t think stabled pets will be affected, either/maybe there will be an item that will switch a tamed pet’s model to a corresponding old color if possible, or summons a old beast with an old color that you can only see and tame, I hope we can choose our colors similar to hati

"Exotic Critter Taming License" makes me thinks this will let you tame some un-tameable critters (non-companion or hunter pets) as companion pets.
I do not think they have ever referred to hunter pets as 'critters' before?

The odd name along with the recent tamed minipet-version salamander debacle makes me wonder...could this be a legitimate way to allow us to tame models like the Vorquin Foal or the salamander hatchlings?

Hard doubt. No way Blizzard would do such a (late) based thing for hunters.
Times banned from World of Warcraft: 1
Reason for ban: Reporting an item duplication exploit with Pet Battles I accidentally found during Mists of Pandaria. 3 week duration.
Re: New Taming Mechanic? (11.0.5 PTR spoilers)
I'm leaning towards either Exotics across all specs or limited-time goof companion pets like rabbits or something following you around.

That is something that they do on Season of Discovery. You can tame certain critters that just follow you around but serve no combat purpose.

Re: New Taming Mechanic? (11.0.5 PTR spoilers)
the wording of critters makes me take pause
Sargman (Void Elf) Terokkar
Serkrun (Orc) Dentarg
Untamabull (Tauren) Area 52
Sargmar (Blood Elf) Alexstrasza
Setanta (Night Elf) Blackhand

I wish they'd just make a new green skin for thunder lizards (the skins in general don't really line up with the old ones; but I digress) and a new albino one for wind serpents.

I noticed the critter chickens in Hallowfall are lvl 78 (player level?) and tanky. I thought it was a joke about being attacked by the chickens ala Link and they made them tankier so they could survive hits to attack you. But possibly this marks them as the 'exotic critters' that can be tamed so they're tougher to survive being pinged by the hunter before taming?

I think that those were already like that with the xpac launch. It is most likely just a Legend of Zelda reference, like you said.Baihu wrote: ↑Fri Sep 27, 2024 12:21 amI noticed the critter chickens in Hallowfall are lvl 78 (player level?) and tanky.
