I have no way of testing this my self (currently) but assuming you are able to transfer your live characters to the beta servers: -
If you had a hunter with "Soriid the Devourer" already tamed and then migrated that character across to the beta, it would be interesting to see whether it would remain the current violet silithid it is, or whether it would change it's appearance to match the new (untameable) Soriid...

Anyone got that possibility? :P

dunno, but I went out and tamed him on my pvp hunter, just in case...

AND, if it does work... shhh!!!!! we want it to go live...

I'll be replacing Stereo's Lapress with Soriid. They look the same, and if I name the new oneLapress it's the same one, as far as RP goes. That way, if I get a beta invite, I can check it. Right? :P

Well, just got to Tanaris on live, landed and though 'Why can't I fly...must be a bug'...nice facepalm moment for me there :)

Well, got him tamed, all I need to do is throw my hunter the way of the beta realms...if it'll let me, not had much luck with tranferring characters across lately!

Just tried the character copy, and it failed...will try tomorrow!

Aye, not as a directly tameable beast, anyhow. There is however the small possibility that if we tame it before Cata hits and it changes, that it will turn into the new one. It's all speculation, and fairly unlikely, but there is the slight chance that it might work.

yeah i don't think im going to get my hopes up for the pet you have turning into it, i think the chances of it not changeing into the new skin out way the chances of it turning into it but it can't hurt to try. I'm not i like my sand one more than the red one XD

Are you just curious to see if you'll have a new skin Silithid that can't be tamed in Cataclysm... if you keep the original one on your character til after Cataclysm hits?

..or am I missing something?

Ahh, nice. I did not know this.

I have a feeling when you tame most pets that you are just getting their skin, and not the actual code for that specific pet. This isn't always 100% correct though considering that some pets keep their Elite and Boss status.

It will be nice to see how this works with this specific pet though.

Actually, you get the NPC ID, with a few changes. That's why unique summons, boss statuses and such can stick around. Assuming they don't make a new NPC with the same name but a different ID, it SHOULD change. Hopefully.

They didn't change them before, so they probably won't in Cata.

What WOULD be interesting is to see if they're still flagged as untameable.

My slime is doing fine in the beta. I don't bring him out much right now because I am hunting with a fox, but I check on him after every patch. ;)

I have a feeling IF this does happen its going to be another "shame your not cool enuff of a hunter to get it" pets not saying every one who does have one is like that but you know what i mean right?
