Disappointed by something about Final Fantasy 14....

Unread post by Sukurachi »

I read that FF14 won't have any pet classes.
I think that was one of the reasons I love WoW so much - the Hunter class is so superior to what the Beastmaster was in FF11.
Of course, it doesn't help that FF14's system requirements appear to have at minimum a NASA supercomputer hooked up to Skynet.

A bit of palindromic wisdom:
"Step on no pets!"
Casual player.. don't raid, don't PvP. Suffer from extreme altitis
I love pets - combat or non.

After FFXIII, I'm not really surprised. That game was.....disappointing, to say the least.

D'aw, not even a Beastmaster like in FFXI? That's too bad. Wait, not even a summoner class? Much ouchies.

Sad to hear about the requirements being high, I was hoping to possibly eye it for my next MMO... *cough*

FFXI is my favorite game. I just HATE SE's customer service, it's made me quit several times.

but the game itself, i absolutely love.

i've watched alpha AND beta, and watched a friend do everything itold him to in beta (he got in and streamed it)

and i got to say, i really really dislike 14.
i like the characters, but that's it. i hate the fighting style and everything, and how the classes are.
it seems boring to me and i don't like having to CONSTANTLY push a button to attack all the time. even WoW has auto attack :p

maybe when i come into millions of dollars and can upgrade my PC, i'll think about 14, but not anytime soon. :\

That was actually one of the things that turned me off to White Knight Chronicles, the lack of an auto-attack. And even FFXI had auto attack....

My husband told me today that it looks like Star Wars: TOR won't have an auto-attack, either. I've never tried not having an auto-attack so I can't say one way or the other if I'll like it. Though, I figure I've played plenty of other games where you have to manually swing every time, so it shouldn't be too bad......at least I hope.

Taking away autoattack and pets is pulling some of the AI out of the mix and making things need more skillz. That seems to be the trend right now in upcoming MMOs, to battle manually so as to feel the true nature of the fight instead of auto attack and easy buttons.

I was disappointed by FF14, ST:TOR and many others that look so very similar to the older games by their namesake, with less of what I would enjoy in an MMO.

As far as pets go, WoW is it. I have never played a game with a truly satisfying pet class before wow and I played DAOC, Anarchy Online, Lineage 2, EQ2 to name a few. Only wow has the rugged and varied concepts and playstyles that encompass a true pet class IMHO. The rest just try really hard to do what WoW does standard issue.
I don't really feel like this is so much the "Post-Modern" era as much as its the "Pre-Zombie-Apocalpse" era. I consider myself more of a forward thinking guy and an era that just won't die is just as feasible as a coming era, where the dead come back.

It feels like a weird combination of turn based RPG meets real time RPG when you have to manually enter every command. It isn't that I don't like entering commands, I do, but in an MMO that auto-attack helps to fill in the spaces when you don't have energy/mana/whichever system to do something with. Anyone whose played a caster already knows what it feels like to not have to worry with auto-attacking.

Just have to wait and see.

keybinds...

Reaction time drops significantly when you take "thinking" out of the equation and use keybindings to the point where its second nature. My first impulse when using a mouse is always looking where I'm clicking to make sure I click the right thing. Keybinds keep your eyes where they need to be.... clicking the next living enemy target :)

White Knight Chronicles, for example, is on a console, and thus they don't have keybinds. FFXI didn't have keybinds either as far as I remember. Has nothing to do with skill.
