I don't see it as a slap in the face really, it's just Blizzard humor. As someone else mentioned, it feels more to me like an acknowledgment of the hunter community and that they're sharing an inside joke with us.

Honestly, I do like it when designers give the community a wink and a wave. It feels like we're part of the process. It shows that Blizz actually checks out what players want or need. Sure, their decision as what they actually give us but neat to see we're not only paying the monthly fee.
You guys saw that shark/devilsaur/forsaken bass player thingie? That was just another salute to the fan base and I'm loving it.
