Pondering, Pondering, Pondering...

As one might suspect due to the title, I am pondering. Pondering what, might you ask? Well, quite frankly.. I'm thinking of transfering my main character to Nesingwary, so I might ACTUALLY play on that server! Instead of just randomly getting on my little lvl 4 alt who's in the Petopians guild. Cause.. Hey, no one in the guild I'm in is really ever on anymore (Though I've been really hoping it'll change when Catacylsm hits.. I'm kind of losing faith in that.) and I really have no friends on that server that I can't talk to anyway via RealID.

So, what do I have to lose? Well, a lot actually... Memories, for the most part. Windrunner was the server I started on. It's the server one of my friends plays on. Said friend was the one who got me into the game! But then again... She's always either on her alt on another server, or on her Druid, raiding ICC! I never really talk to her in-game anymore. And besides, we can still talk through RealID.

Another thing I have to lose is.. My guild. Disciples of Deathwing (Yes, very ironic considering Cataclysm XD). It was the very first guild I ever joined. Me and my friend (Same one I mentioned earlier) joined it because we had gotten interested in the dragons of the game, and had gone crazy researching none other than Deathwing himself on various fan-sites! Hence why we joined the guild. Little did we know that the guild would become sort of a little family for us in-game. Back then, we were known by the guild as the Troll Sisters, due to our two characters, Sandfur and Sunpelt, who were both Troll Huntresses. Eventually, things changed.. My friend couldn't log on for like.. EVER thanks to a REALLY nasty computer virus, and I shot all the way up to lvl 70, leaving her at lvl 40. I quit the guild to make a new one with another friend, due to no one ever being on anymore. And then of course that other friend had to stop playing. But hey, things happen. Oh well. WotLK hit, and the old guild burst into life. DK's EVERYWHERE. Which included my friend's new main. Fast foward to about January after the expansion... I had just rejoined Disciples of Deathwing around lvl 77, and had eventually hit 80, and not too long afterwards, the guild started raiding. I went along with them one night when my friend dragged me into an OS raid. Then I went to Naxx with them. And eventually.. I realized, 'Hey! Raiding is fun!' ... No longer than a couple months later... Things totally fell apart. One guildie (Who had even been the one who had invited me and my friend to the guild in the first place..) had a tantrum and said he was going to leave the server. ... He didn't make it that far. He did, however, faction change his DK to Alliance. And I honestly haven't heard anything from him since. And well.. The guild has kind of.. Dropped off the face of the earth ever since. Besides me, of course. Me and another guildie are really the only ones who are ever one.

Anyway.. I kinda went crazy with that, didn't I? Oh well.. I had to explain it all. And yeah, even though the guild has totally and utterly died.. I still kind of hate the idea of leaving it... But it does get really lonely for me to just be the only one on for the most part. And even when I'm not the only one one.. No one's ever talking. It's just lonely. And I hate feeling lonely...

Though, on the other hand, while I do still have a lot of memories on Windrunner.. Some of them I think would be best to just leave behind. There's quite a few things that seem to be.. Kind of trapping me to this one place and time in the game. A place and time that's long past, in fact. And I just can't find a way to free myself from those things.

So.. Maybe a new server may help. Along with a new guild that is really active and full of people who share the same outlook on things as I do in the game... As much as I truely will miss my server.. There's definitely some things I WON'T miss. (Two words: Trade Chat. UGH.) And besides, I still have a lot of characters on Windrunner. I could even get my neglected little Druid back into Disciples of Deathwing, so I'd still be able to keep up with stuff going on there...

What do you all think? Should I transfer my main over or not? I mean, yeah, it'll still be up to me in the longrun on what to do, but I'd really appreciate some input on this...

I don't spend enough time on Nersingwary, but I can tell you it's a very fun place. The guild is great, talkative, supportive, very accepting. From what I have seen so far, although again that isn't too much, it's also a fairly good server overall.
And I don't see this guild falling apart, ever!

I think the decision is up to you. You will always have good memories of your server, but if you are bored and noone is on, its not going to make the game very fun. Come cata everything is becoming more guild oriented. The decision is ultimately yours, the petopians guild is pretty awesome, always nice, and very little drama at all which is great. We enjoy our little campathons, and have guild events. There is usually atleast a few people on, though more people come on in the afternoons and evenings. But gchat is never quiet.. ever!

I can definitely understand your hesitations, I had much the same when I was first considering transferring over to Nesingwary for good. And I didn't even have much to 'hold me back' on my original home server of Daggerspine. It was a PvP realm, I wasn't even in a guild at that point, and my best in-game friends had recently moved to a new server for a raiding guild. But there was that tug of familiarity that was hard to break. However, once I realized how much I had to gain and how...little (pretty much nothing) I would lose I did the transfer and have never been happier.

It seems to me like you'd enjoy moving over to the Petopians guild. Perhaps leave an alt in your old guild and play that character when you're bored/want a break. That way you're still connected and can hop in whenever you feel like it.

If your friends aren't hanging out with you in game and that seems unlikely to change, then there really isn't anything tying you down except the past. It kinda sounds like you already made your choice; you're just coming to terms with it, which is totally normal.

I will warn you, though; trade chat is bad on EVERY server.

The Nessingwary Guild was my saving grace really. I had started Sochi on Crushridge, a PvP server. Despite the fact that I made it to 80 (slowly and painfully over a long period of time), I wasn't happy on that server.

And then my guild died. The GL found a girlfriend and others fizzled away. I was left with no one to talk to. I got bored. So, in a fit of curiosity and desperation, I rolled an alt on Zangarmarsh Alliance to say hello to and help out a friend who started playing. I got that nelf to 52 and something nifty then occured. A brillant person came up with the forum guild and several other brillant people agreed and thus Petopians was formed.

Curious and hopeful, I rolled an alt, Shaon, hunter of course along with the obligatory hubby eye-roll at yet another hunter, and went to check out the guild. Long story short, I dragged my Zanagarmarsh friend into it with me, transfered my main and haven't been so happy in a guild since my early days of Untouchable Sages and Bad Dreams on Crushridge.

I am at home in this Guild.

Well I haven't been on for a few weeks (I go through wow phases, lol) but I have to say, I had the same problem as you originally Senna. Quel'Dorei was really my first major realm with friends on it. Some of them are still there in fact. I loved it, but the old guild I was in broke up, a lot of my friends stopped playing, and the one still left there is a pretty hardcore raider so at best we'd chat but never really hang out anymore. It had a lot of fond memories for me. I still remember'em and I won't forget'em.

Originally when--Ryno, I think it was--came up with the Nesingwary guild idea, I figured I'd just jump on casually. I rolled up a tauren hunter and figured I'd pop in maybe once a week or thereabouts, and spend most of my time on my original server. But lo and behold, I found myself playing little tauren Taigi more and more. Unlike Queldorei, where I mostly played solo, Nesingwary is always lively, casual, and fun. If you just feel like chatting you can chat. If you feel like questing you can do that, and there's always somebody around to help you with a few of the tougher things that you can't-quite-solo. People are always willing to do dungeons with you, do battlegrounds, or help you camp your next big tame. It feels like a real community, where everybody actively enjoys hanging out, helping out, and just having fun.

I started building more and more memories there, and before you knew it I realized that Nesingwary was more of a home realm to me than QD. It took a while to realize it, and the transition was slow, but eventually I pulled my NE hunter over and, more recently, my main rogue as well. Now I love hanging out on Nesingwary when I play.

And like LupisDarkmoon said, I don't see this guild falling apart ever, or at least not for a long, long, long time Even if you need a break and disappear for a few weeks or a month or whatever (I do it frequently when I need some time off of WoW) you're still welcomed back with open arms and a friendly conversation. Nobody'll forget you, which is great

After a while of thinking.. I've come to a decision. I'm going to transfer my main over to Nesingwary! I realized that I reallly don't have anything to lose by transfering, I mean, I still have alts on Windrunner, and I'll always have memories of it too!

That's it? And I thought it was a week or something. Better go tell my dad - he's considering transferring his hunter over and I gave him some rather incorrect info on how long it takes for a transfer!

I also have made Nesingwary my new WoW home. Only I started over fresh with Tyrii instead of transferring. I don't regret it in the least. I left a few unpleasant memories behind at my old realm and still have the boon of Real-ID to chat with friends I made on that realm. Plus, I'm actually in a guild in this realm! *grin*

I believe on the page they can say the transfer can take a week, but that's mostly to cover their own butts in case some bizarre lag or issues on their end. I've transferred a few characters and all were within 15 minutes or less. ^^

Yeah, it usually takes under an hour for me, often less than that. I usually just do some banking or whatever and then check when I'm done, my toon is usually at his/her new home by then.
