The huge steel citadel rose in front of them, its tremendous size making the amassed army look minute in comparison. But they were going to take the Lich King down. The tremendous combined forces of the Alliance and the Horde together was a sight to behold. Paladins and Death Knights rode side by side as they charged, cutting through the undead forces of the Lich King like a knife. The legions standing guard outside the gate were cut down like wheat. The army then charged towards the gate, ready to beat it down. Large siege engines, catapults, battering rams, ect. slowly rumbled forward behind the main force.
In the advancing sea of warriors, Turgus rode atop his raptor mount, he looked over at his trusted companion, who was still taller than he was, even on raptor back. Chomper turned and looked back at him, a big toothy grin across his face. Their spirit bond was strong now, forged over the last couple of months to the point where they instinctively knew what the other was going to do in battle, and they could communicate with each other through their link effortlessly.
He could see that Chomper was walking a bit prouder, almost strutting as he ran. Turgus had gotten some enchanted items made for him, which a raptor, obviously a hunter companion, staring up enviously at Chomper.
He had gotten a pair of magic bracer forged that he wore on his little forearms that would protect the big guy from undeath and various evil enchantments. He had also gotten him a enchanted golden tooth cap. It was enchanted to make it so he could bite through steel and stone just as easily as he bit through flesh, if he didn’t want to he didn’t have to taste what he was biting, and it also kept his breath minty fresh.
Nothing was worse than a devilsaur with zombie breath, that is for sure.
It had taking some convincing with the enchanter to create the items for him, it was completely unprecedented for an animal companion to have magical items. But Turgus wasn’t known for being conventional, and Chomper was a perfect partner for him.
When was the last time you saw a devilsaur doing the moonwalk?
The gates to the citadel opened and a huge surge of undead warriors came out, giant skeletons, spiked zombies, gargoyles, and abominations. The last remaining visages of the Lich Kings army now stood between them and the citadel.
The two forces collided and the battle soon enveloped everyone. Turgus quickly dismounted off of his raptor as an abomination lumbered forward, swinging a sickle over its head. It lashed out at him with the sickle. He flipped out of the way, landing and drawing his crossbow in a single swift motion. The abomination swung the sickle again, flinging it straight at him. Turgus didn’t move, but carefully sighted along his crossbow. Just as the sickle was about to strike him, out of nowhere, Chomper bit the sickle, catching it in his teeth, and turned, using the momentum of the sickle to pull the abomination off balance. As the abomination stumbled forward, Chomper took a step back while biting through the sickle, severing it from its chain. It fell and clattered on the ground. Then Chomper stepped further back, revealing Turgus with his readied crossbow. An instant later two crossbow bolts flew through the air and struck the abomination right in its eyes. The abomination roared and charged forward. Turgus slung his crossbow and drew his halberd, taking a step to the side. Blinded by the arrows the abomination didn’t see Turgus or Chomper step out of the way and he charged right past them. Then in perfect synchronicity they struck, Chomper leapt biting the abomination around the back of its neck, Turgus moved up and stabbed the abomination right in the spine severing it, he then quickly withdrew his halberd, yellow goo flowing out of wound. Chomper shook the abomination like a rag doll, a sickening crunch of bone filled the air. He then let the abomination go and it fell to the ground in a heap. It didn’t get up.
The battle had just started though, and a sea of undead still came from the citadel. Turgus smiled and said, “Time to earn our pay.” Chomper looked at him, and open his mouth just so, exposing a big toothy grin. They turned to face their next opponents, as two spiked ghouls shambled towards them. Chomper took a step forward and roared. Turgus had already switched back to his crossbow and was kneeling as he aimed. He fired, and a gout of green goo sprouted from one of the ghouls as it struck it right it its forehead. He quickly loaded and fired again, before the other ghoul had taken another step. The second crossbow bolt was even more accurate, gelatinous ooze spewing forth from the other ghouls eye as it collapsed. The two ghouls quivered for a moment before the dark enchantment that kept them moving faded.
A gargoyle then swooped down, and almost took Turgus out with its dive, but Chomper had seen it coming. The big guy leapt into the air and grabbed the gargoyles leg in his mouth. He then swung his head down slamming the gargoyle into the ground in a giant plum of dust. The gargoyle had just enough time to turn over before Chomper landed on him. The landing sent an even larger plum of dust into the air. Chompers huge foot left a distinct imprint on the gargoyle as he withdrew it. The impact had shattered bone and crushed flesh. The gargoyle broken body twitched once and then laid still.
The two of them walked forward through the chaotic battle that surrounded them, almost nonchalantly destroying every undead minion that crossed their path. As an efficient team they worked, taking apart every nasty undead creation that the Lich King had spawned that got within reach.
It hadn’t been since the great battles between the Horde and Alliance at Tarren Mill and Northshore since Turgus had this much fun, and Chomper was clearly eating it up too, stomping around crushing bone and rending flesh. A good battle was hard to find now days, you had to enjoy it while it lasted.
Turgus looked around and saw that their army was utterly destroying the undead legions. They may have numbers, but skill was clearly on their side. The army advanced closer and closer to the giant citadel, shattered skeletons, broken gargoyles and destroyed ghouls littering the ground.
The Lich King had no idea just what was really coming….
