Warlock Pets > Hunter Pets

Unread post by Cpatrol »

Is anyone else worried that warlock pets might outdps our pets in cataclysm? Correct me if I'm wrong, but I hear that felguards are getting even more special attacks added to their arsenal, including a few buffs for their already existing moves, whereas hunter pets seem to be switching places with lock pets as the team buff pets. Atm it looks to me like if a felguard and a beastmasters pet dueled, the felguard would win, (unless our gear manages to make our pets better than lock pets) which makes me somewhat sad seeing as having the best minions has been one of the best things about being a hunter to me.

Does anyone else have any concerns or info on the matter?

Warlock pets are easily beating hunter pets in Cata beta, currently.

As I see it, demo locks are supposed to be the equivalent of BM hunters so I don't mind sharing the "toughest pet" bracket with them... as long as they just don't become measurably/reliably superior.

How do demo locks rate vs BM hunters in terms of overall DPS (in cata)?

I think they're about equal, but I'm not in the beta, and even if I was, I wouldn't know. But from what I've heard, a Felguard can easily beat any hunter pet, BM or not.

It's kind of odd at the moment. Hunter pets just became EXTREMELY reliant on focus and on focus staying as high as possible, which requires a lot of management. Done well, BM pet's are beating Demonologies minions. BUT demonology requires a lot less effort to work with. Felguards did just pick up two abilities that have to be clicked, but evenwithout axe toss or felstorm, the felguard is still really beefy. With them...yeah. It's a weird state of flux right now, but Felguards probably have the edge just because they rely on mana and don't require Wild Hunt or a similar ability to boost their damage.

If we're just talking pet vs pet that doesn't bother me; just wanted to be sure the overall result was balanced.

I can live with that.

Well, as Palladia said, if neither hunter nor lock gets to cast any spells, the felguard wins.

Felguards will also always win in multi-target fights, ESPECIALLY with Felstorm. But single target, well maintained, a BM pet will beat a felguard in damage.

I may have been a bit vague - when I said "overall result" I meant as long as a BM hunter + pet can compete with a demo lock + pet in terms of DPS, then that's good enough for me; the fact that a felguard could beat a hunter pet in a pure pet vs pet scenario doesn't bother me.

Well I think that last point is important. If lock pets are more powerful, I don't really care... as long as we even out, seeing as we're both pure dps classes.

Well to me Felguards beating a Beastmaster pet is complete bull... Not only will they have a better pet, but they can also use metamorphosis. Thats just unfair, I know metamorphosis isnt a good ability but its cool, having the best damage dealing pet was the cool thing as the hunter, I know hunters can customize their pets more but besides custom pets the only special thing about the hunter is the mail armor and our ranged weapons.. Its just a tad bit unfair imo.

I don't understand what's unfair? We compete in terms of both being pure dps classes (and that's why I don't think we should be far apart on meters) but that's where similarities end. We'll be able to CC, provide buffs or debuffs as needed, and I guarantee we'll still be pumping out massive amounts of dps. Warlocks having some things we don't doesn't change that.

Nothing is stopping you from rolling a warlock, if you think they're that great. Classes are all different, that's what's so great about the game. If they were all the same, what'd be the point?

From my experience on beta, yeah as classes we're equal. However, the lock's pet have our pets beat one-on-one. It's fair enough to me, though.

After all, Locks are still clothies~

With the ability to fear us until their DoTs kill us if they don't get bored of toying with us and just use their stronger attacks while we run screaming in fear.

Clothies aren't the pushovers some people think they are, especially if they play smart. I can win 2v1 against Death Knights as my Shadow Priest and I've seen Warlocks drop Paladins like they were 5 levels lower just by positioning out of sight on high ground (or hiding in water as an SPriest since the shadows of the water hide SPriests perfectly, minus nameplates of course) and using DoTs only since they don't have tracers when used.

Well of course skill > class. But personally, I don't let Locks get that many chances on me before their down. Then again, I avoid arena like the plague because its the most unfun PvP in WoW to me (not because of how I position, but just overall)

If Warlocks are getting more powerful, well, that just gives me a reason to play as Emielee, my undead 'lock, more often :)

I wouldn't be too worried about it. Warlocks and Hunters are two totally different classes, with different strengths and weaknesses. When it comes down to it, what matters is the player, not the class.
