I said no thanks, got my money back, bought the regular edition at Walmart, and have never set foot in that store again.

This sounds a bit iffy. Gamestop won't let you pay for CE's until they're officially announced. They're not in the computer to do so. I'm not pointing a finger and screaming liar but I've ordered the last three from game stop, and they've never let me pay more than the price for the base game UNTIL the CE came out. Their computers aren't set up to take it.

I can understand being upset if YOUR gamestop ran out of their preorders. But the above sounds.... well fake. If they took $240 from you on games not even in their computer they're not just going to throw you to the wolves and give the money back like that. That's a pretty big bit of change. And likely the sort of customer they're just going to laugh manically and toss away.

If your game stop DID let you put that money down, then it's the guys at your store that jerked you around. THEY took your money. As in the guys. Not the store.

I was going to write something, but that covers it.
I know for a fact you can't put anything down on CE's until they're announced by Blizzard, and even then, Gamestop/EBgames won't start taking pre-orders til the next day usually.

If they did take your money though, then you should report them to someone, because there's no feasible way they actually put that money down on a game that wasn't even in the computer.

But I still HEAVILY recommend that if you want a CE, you need to be on top of WoW info sites like MMO-champion and the main WoW site. The second it is announced, you have to stay on top of game stores. Really, dedication pays off when it comes to these type of CE's.

I'm sorry to disappoint you, but EBGames in Canada DOES take pre-orders before Blizzard announces official dates. EBGames, as a matter of fact, routinely announces release dates considerably before the game-makers themselves announce official release dates.

And I am NOT lying. Why the hell would I? I am offended at your assumption that I am being dishonest.

All I want is the mini pet and I haven't gotten one of the collectors mini pets yet.. I doubt I'll make this time an exception. I'm prolly gonna reserve a copy at a local game store or do my ritualistic midnight Wal-Mart run. Muahahaha...

The way you wrote it made it sound like you pre-ordered it before Blizzard even announced a CE option. That's how I understood it anyways. If that isn't the case, then I apologize.

I don't know about EBGAmes Canada. I'm only speaking of Gamestop here in the states. (( Which I thought you were too))

As for the 'routinely announces release dates considerably before the gamemakers themselves do" Part. Yeah they all do that. SO they can put the item in the computer to take the pre-orders. Gamestop does that. But they don't put them in the computer till they have conformation on the game.

I.E. No Cat CE. Till Blizzard confirmed they were making a Cat CE. No Starcraft CE till Blizzard confirmed they were making one.

As ive said it before its better to preorder off the net than from a store. More likely to get it. yes you useally have to pay the full price then and there but hey least you get it.

EBGames is Gamestop. Up to this expansion, you couldn't order from them online. As far as I'm aware, anyway. For WotLK, I actually considered ordering it from Gamestop and sending it to family in the US. Bleah.

I've had good and bad experiences with them -- when the BC CE was announced, I'd already preordered the normal game and went back to the store to change it. Closer to release, I called to reconfirm and they said I was in their system for the normal game. Luckily, I had an enterprising friend who had multiple stores covered for the CE.

The day after the WotLK CE was announced, they had extra staff in the store to take preorders for it.

The day after the Cataclysm CE was announced, it wasn't in their store database, though that was at store opening time.

It all boils down to timing and the kind of staff in the store when you go.

Strange, I've ordered online both CE boxes for Burning Crusade and Wrath of the Lich King from EB Games without any problems.

Hm. Well, I have been known to miss the boat on occasion, this is probably a good example. I might not have tried actually browsing to gamestop.ca until recently. :)

What's shipping time like?

I -THINK- it's shipped to the Gamestop before the release date and they're kept in storage until it is offically released. I believe they're are then shipped to homes on the day of release, so from what I've heard you will get it on the same day. I actually just pre-ordered it from Gamestop.

NEW SIGNATURE PENDING... SOON.

Despite the nay-saying of EB Canada in general, I am assured the my CE Cata copy will be there for me.

I know the manager. He knows that I know where he lives.

You CAN Pre-order the CE editions from Game Stop. Both in the store and online.

-----After------- the CE version of the game is announced by Blizzard. (( like it is now))

-----Before------ it's announced by Blizzard it's not in Game Stop's computer as an option to order.

I went to Game Stop today for Halo Reach. Brought up this thread. The Manager there said flat out that the previous poster either 1) Flat out lied or 2) Someone criminally took their money. As there's no way to punch it into the computer and take 3 full price reserves for Cat CE before it was announced by blizzard.

So.. with out a receipt photoed and posted with them taking your $80 three times on a date PRIOR to the official Announcement.... *shrugs* One of the two happened.

Again I'm not pointing in your face and screaming Liar... there are douchy people out there. The one's at the game stop you went to may have some how defrauded you of your cash. I'm sure it happens. But shy of that... *shrugs*

If they DID do it. You might be able to get them fired as your revenge. Find the contact information for the regional manager and show them that receipt and point out they took your entire $80 before it was even in the computer. if they took money and gave you the receipt. That's a legally binding contract.

I stopped in at an EBgames in Montréal this week.
the girl at the counter said they were still taking orders: "yeah, until we get the message to stop taking orders on the CE we will continue to accept orders".

Which means they want my money now and screw me later when they tell everyone, except the first 2 who pre-ordered, that they won't get a CE, "do you want to buy the regular one anyway?" (and generally, EBgames sells for more than Walmart).

HOWEVER, I did get the dreaded email from Amazon this week: they haven't been able to get the item in question "yet", do I still want to keep it officially "ordered"?
