Mount Macros?

Unread post by VelkynKarma »

I'm terribad with macros and coding, but maybe you guys can help!

Silinrul is starting to get too many mounts. I've been using a macro I got off the wiki that let me pick 10-15 specific mounts (whatever I could fit with the character limit) and randomly rotate between those. But I'd like to be able to ride all my mounts, without having to scroll through pages of mounts to pick the one I want.

So here's what I need: a mounting macro that allows me to randomly select mounts, without making me mount up on slower ones. I have two different buttons for ground and flying mounts, so it doesn't need to choose between those. I just want some random mount fun without having to be selective. :)

Does it have to be a macro, or are you open for addons? I never miss a chance to recommend GupPet to anyone (a simple, incredibly useful addon to manage both mounts and minipets).

I don't mind addons; I had a mount addon once for a while.

The only thing that really bugged me about it was every time a minor update occurred and new pets were added, it wouldn't recognize them or started having me mount up on new pets that were slower.

Mine used to be..

/castrandom (mount), (mount), (mount)

replacing (mount) with the mounts you have.. not sure if you can fit 10-15 in there but its worth a shot!
Should work unless they broke it in some patch.

Interesting. I must take a look at that addon, Veph. Thanks for linking it. And, Lovcat, I like that macro. Gonna have to see if it works. I put mounts on my action bars, but don't like to take up all my spots with different mount options. That could solve that. :)

I love GupPet because it gives you two simple buttons that you can place anywhere on your screen (they don't take up existing action bar buttons). I put mine down in the bottom right hand corner beside the action bar. One is to summon a random minipet, the other is to summon a random mount. Mounts are automatically determined depending on where you are. If you can fly then flying mounts are chosen, and if you're on land it will choose an epic speed ground mount and not the slow ones. You can force a slow type by shift clicking the button, likewise you can force a ground instead of a flying by shift clicking. (If you only have slow mounts then obviously it will select those, ditto if you can't fly yet)

The options interface is extremely easy to get around in, and you can individually check mounts and minipets that you want as part of the random summons. If you hate a particular one you can leave it unchecked so that it doesn't pop up, etc. It also has options for auto-calling a minipet among other things. ^^

EDIT: Oh, and as for the update hassle, I honestly haven't had to do it much. :) There aren't too many new mounts and minipets added constantly, and even if they're added I may not get them right away. Eventually I get around to updating it, but I don't find it to be a pain at all. :)

Oh! I almost forgot, another nifty feature of GupPet is that it will tell you on mouseover if a certain mob or creature drops a pet or mount. Same with vendors that sell minipets and mounts, it will display them under the name.

Okay, sounds like a good solution to me :D It seems to do a very lot very simply, so I'll give it a shot. :)

GUPPET requires "Buttonfacade" as well.. and this didnt seem to install via the curse client. I had to get it manually.

edit:
its another addon also available on curse... I'll try and find the link again, 'cos it wasnt all that obvious.

GupPet link here

ButtonFacade link here

both on curse.

Good to know.. I downloaded and installed GupPet and it gave me "missing dependancy" not not telling what it was missing... Also garbled up the game when I signed in that I had to remove it completely from the folder.

Is Buttonfacade an addon, or if I do a web search I can find it?

Edit... just did a quick search and found it is an addon. So will try getting that as well tonight to see if it will work for me.

Hmm, that's odd. I've never had to look for any Button Facade thing. o.O I don't seem to have an addon called that either. I just...downloaded GupPet and it's always worked. x)

Definitely get guppet if you can, but if for some reason you cannot get guppet to work, you can use something like this as a fallback option:

#showtooltip Charger
/castrandom [nomounted,@player] Blessing of Wisdom,Seal of Righteousness
/run o=CallCompanion d=DismissCompanion r=random m="MOUNT" c="CRITTER" if IsMounted()==1 then d(m) d(c) a={1,4,6,6} o(c,a[r(4)]) else a={1,2,3} o(m,a[r(3)]) end

This is much more complicated though (frankly it's a pain and the reason why I decided to build my own addons) so again I'm only providing it as a fallback...

This macro will do the following:

1) If you are unmounted, it will apply a random self buff and summon a random* mount
2) If you are mounted, it will dismount and summon a random* minipet

*Just like with /castrandom you can weight it towards the ones you prefer by listing them multiple times, which I prefer over a "flat" random result

It requires that you plug in the indices of the mounts and minipets you like, and update it anytime you get a new mount or minipet, and you also should have some reasonable degree of comfort with scripts (e.g. replace "1,4,6,6" with a comma delimited list of your pet indices and replace "1,2,3" with a comma delimited list of your mount indices... also where it says a[r(4)] and a[r(3)] you need to replace the bolded number with the number of entries in your list... and lastly of course replace the "mountup" spells with your own, or remove that line if desired). :)
