The one that got away..
So I was doing a few quests in Sholazar Basin while waiting for a dungeon, in particular the one where you are flying that burning aeroplane back to the landing strip, when all of a sudden NPC scan goes off showing Loque. My heart jumps, I panic and afraid of dismounting, I wait to land, jump off and fly back to where I thought it went off.
I fly around the immediate area of reported spawn points and proceed to check every single one... No luck..
I am wondering if a hunter has tamed Loque and has named him his full name, will the NPC scan go off?.. or is this the one that got away?

NPC scan will go off if a Hunter has a tamed Loque, regardless of what they name it. The addon simply sees the ID number of the model and if it's in the proper area (Sholazar) it will signal.

Yup. When I was looking for Loque, there was a farmer/bot in the basin that had tamed Loque and was farming basically 24/7. It constantly set off my NPC scan.Vephriel wrote:NPC scan will go off if a Hunter has a tamed Loque, regardless of what they name it. I did that in Zul'drak. About scared myself to death when Gondria popped up.zedxrgal wrote:I've retardedly set my own NPC scan off by calling my stable in Scholazar. Scared the bahjesus out of myself.

Re: The one that got away..
I always try not to have a rare out in the zone it spawns for that reason, but you know... you forget and next you know, you ruin all the camping hunters' camp...
Or worse, get their hopes up.

Just in case for the future, use your Flexweave Underlay to parachute down. you'll never have to worry about dismounting to nab a rare

Re: The one that got away..
I've had SilverDragon give me false positive pings as I enter both Sholazar and Storm Peaks for the rares in those zones. It's pinged both Loque and Krush as I entered the basin and neither turned out to actually be up, and Skoll as I've flown into Storm Peaks, and he wasn't there, either. All these alerts have occurred in areas nowhere near where they actually spawned as well.
Given that SD doesn't react to tamed pets, I'm inclined to think it's a tad bit buggy on occasion, but now that I know what that is, I can safely ignore them after a quick glance around.
Maybe something similar going on with NPCScan, perhaps involving the cache or something? /shrug Other than that, I don't know.

Re: The one that got away..
Hello All,
I'm new to the forum and absolutely love it
I've had both NPCscan and Silverdragon go off in the various area's where I've either tamed rares or that is the rare's location. As I understand it, the addon's work off your cache entries. So if any time since you last cleared out your cache, another hunter has come in your vicinity with say Loque (and you have yet to tame him) or you have Gondria and enter ZD. BOOM off goes the alarm the second you enter that region. Trust me the first time it did that for Loque I nearly had a heart attack as I'd just recently lost him to a Horde priest that killed him during my tame (GRRRRR).
I'd just recently dinged 80 and was flying around when a guildy reminded me of this wonderful site, (I'd leveled my hunter in tbc and had a time away from WOW). So after a brief look I found and fell in love with Loque. So i write a small macro that I was busy spamming for all my life as I checked his spawn points. After a few days I am shaking as it pops up and there he is ( I heard it's a he, yet see people write she.. confused !?! ). So I pop my Humar (he was my first rare tame and I spent 2-3 hours camping his spot one day, so sad to find Pitch in SB) Lion away and drop a frost trap (like I said it's been a while, forgive my nooby mistake) and start taming, with about 5 seconds to go and my hands shaking like mad... NOOOOO a horde priest that was close by starts dotting him up.. I knew then it was lost.
So, after a very long and heated discussion with the priest I moved on and decided to just accept was wasn't to be, to this day (almost 1 month on) I've yet to find him again. However in the mean time I've had the gods shine some light on me and I've been lucky enough to tame, Gondria (only just as another hunter tried to steal this beauty off me), Arcturis, Skoll, Aotona (who I released for Krush), The Beast and now Krush (who I must say is just beyond wonderful... ).
Very happy hunter is looking forward to Cata's extra slots and many more rare tames..
p.s. who do i have to bribe for one of those awesome Sigs???

Re: The one that got away..
Yeah umm call stable pet is pretty evil
I know my Aotona has set off numerous NPCscans and as soon as I open my stable all my pets cache my npcscan. This is why when I fly to shola I am never again taking Loque out... he likes to pop the npcscan.. with the blaring drums and all and I just sit there wondering what the heck is going on
. I am sure alas many of my pets have set off peoples npcscan
And yes if the rare is cached SD will go off as soon as you enter into the area that the cahced rare spawns. Such as Skoll. If hes cached as soon as you go into storm peaks it will pop up. Hence why while I was camping for a rare I never did like to go to Dalaran. It is the place of many false alarms and caching..
